Found a 1949 Bing Crosby 33 record in the "free" pile of things left over from the library rummage.  Bing singing hits from Oklahoma and Annie Get Your Gun.  Too funny.  Great gift for a friend of mine who loves all things 40's.  Free is still my favorite price!  I got a cute pink sweater for me too - new clothes to fit the skinnier me, without paying anything.  Martha Stewart might not a agree with my taste for all things secondhand, but I think "it's a good thing"!

I only have eight days of school left for this school year.  Plus I will teach only sixth grade next year.  They agreed to give the position back to our school for a third RSP teacher who we desperately needed this school year.

Great news kitkatz!!!  My positive is we sold some of our wood we cut. Made $50 a pickup load!!  We have sold $500 worth!! Bad news is one of the junks of wood we threw in the truck bounced and struck the back window!!!  What a mess and it is going to cost $350 for a new one.

I finally scheduled some eval appointments I have been avoiding, and I got a lab drawn ON TIME for maybe the fifth time in my entire life!  :clap; (I usually just check the STAT box on the order and then wait nervously to see if the tech will question it.) My husband decided he had had enough of work for the week and came home early so we could go on a nice walk before picking up the kids. All in all, a lovely and productive-feeling day!

I had one of my "teary" spells earlier today, but just going through the routine of getting my husband set up on the machine got me settled down. I can see two of my hanging baskets from where I'm sitting and that is a lovely feeling, too.

It's sooo important to focus on the positives. I am thankful for this thread.

I had another positive today. I ran into a former student at the grocery store. I had him from 1st through 5th grade. He told me that he is getting married in two weeks and that he is in med school in Memphis. Then he said that I did a good job with him. Sweet.  :thx;

It made my day. I taught his sisters, too. The older one got a full scholarship to Goucher College in Baltimore. Not bad.

My positive for the day - my sister called to say she's coming for a girl's weekend this Friday.  She's bringing her sewing machine so we can sew and gab all weekend.

Today, I got to be someone else's positive - I did 3 good deeds.  I stopped to help an elderly neighbor hook up her digital tv equipment.  I stopped to help a friend with a new kitten learn how to clip kitty claws safely and painlessly.  Those two I had planned on.  The third was not planned, but much more fun!  I stopped to warn one of the local farmers that his calves had made a break for it, and then helped round them up.

If I'd know I was gonna wrangle cattle today, I would have worn my cowboy boots!  ;musicalnote; "Git along little doggies, git along. . . ."  ;musicalnote;
And yes, I do live in the middle of nowhere!

Saw a hummingbird last night and hear some goldfinches calling (but didn't see them). They have the sweetest song of any birds, I think. Have heard a woodpecker for the past couple of mornings and a fox was roaming around last night. All this wildlife and I live 5 minutes from the airport!

Getting the heck out of town.

« Reply #617 on: June 08, 2009, 05:34:24 AM »

There used to be a resident woodpecker in one of my trees  -  until Ike knocked his tree down.  Don't know where he moved to (he maybe have been blown away come to think of it).  Gobs of hummingbirds descend on at the blooms at the front door.  I hope one doesn't ever stick that little pointed beak  in my eye...
Last year I was inundated with Cardnials but one died on  the front porch and they all left.  I guess it was a cat or something -- or maybe a racoon.  I saw one out there once and man it was ugly.

Cardinals will sometimes fly into windows and accidentally kill themselves. If an animal had killed it, you wouldn't have seen the body. Gulp. Yum, yum.

Hummers have no interest in you. You aren't sweet enough!  :rofl; :rofl;

You can teach wild bluebirds to eat out of your hand by getting mealworms from the pet store. We have a bluebird house near our pool and I love to watch them fly in and out. I could give you many lessons to help you develop a better relationship with our animal friends.  :2thumbsup;

I'll stick to dogs and jackasses.....

Bellaire (the city where I live) is noted for cardinals.  Actually that is the name of the local High School baseball team.....

Is Bellaire part of Houston? It has been a long, long time since I was in Houston. I was there for a Montessori conference many years ago.

by counting the legs and dividing by four?

My daily postive - my 9 yr old granddaughter, Eliza, donated her hair for the second time to Locks of Love. She did it when she was 7 and in two years her hair grew about 12 inches.  She loves doing this. Her parents let her get her ears pierced as a reward.  She thinks she is so cool with her new haircut and earrings!  She is such a sweet child.  :cuddle;

Aleta, Bellaire  is a city all on its own but it is surrounded by Houston.  Actually, Houston grew around it  We have better schools and other city services.  Also higher taxes.....

Paris,
One of my elementary students, her dad and younger brother all donated their hair last week. I saw the mom today and she said her daughter looks so much older with her hair cut. I think that is so sweet.

Dan, too bad about the higher taxes.  :thumbdown;
