It was my mothers Birthday so all the family went out for dinner.

I had Tender grain fed eye fillet steak served with barbecued prawns, Balmain bug in a dijjion mustard sauce served on a garlic mash.  mmmmm it was great oh so good..

The Balmain Bug -

An absolute favourite from our tropical waters and east coast fishery. This is a substitute to lobster and some times referred to as the Shovel-nosed Lobster. Serve barbecued in the shell or Salt & Pepper tails.

Last night we had low-carb mu-shu pork (no pancakes, though).

Tonight we're having low-carb crab cakes - no breadcrumbs, eggs help keep everything together. Probably going to give him asparagus and have a salad for myself.

Combining low-carb for hubby and renal for me gets tricky...at least I'm doing PD and can go higher protein.

Crumbed Lamb Cutlets, Zucchini, Corn on the Cob, Carrots, Snow Peas, Asparagus and Mashed Potato.

Butterscotch and Pecan Pudding with Ice Cream.

Pretty much "The Last Supper" before I get back on my diet tomorrow and increase my exercise. Getting back into it. Knowing that the transplant won't be long now is a big motivator.

hey there is a big differance between eating seafood and bigs feets...... feet are dirty...  ;D

yes jbeany i think it does!! i don't think i could ever be a vegetarian i love meat products way to much!!

yes my sister can;t eat much seafood either... she gets queasy.. the smell alone makes her spew.

I have tried several out of the ordinary things.  Buffalo, Ostrich, Alligator, Squid, Shark, and probably a few others I cant think of right now.  None of the odd animals I would be able to find to eat normally in my area except Buffalo, the rest I guess would be considered exotic.

How I have a question....my husband is tired of the restricted diet....he wants a steak, mashed potatoes, gyros, polish sausages, and Italian beef and now that he is on dialysis, is it safe to cheat since the machine will clean him out or should I still be very watchful?  I don't want to "kill" him by cheating.....

Hey Tweetykiss, nice to see you back, I was getting worried.   How are your hubby's labs?  If his potassium is low or in the normal range, then let him have a little mashed potatoes, how is his protein?  let him have a little steak.  I can understand how you can be scared of losing him, but i think not allowing him the foods he loves (in moderation of course) will eventually make living with him unbearable, lol, I think we all eat the foods we love, we just need to know our limits.  You take care girlfriend and keep us posted on how he is doing ok,  Good luck to you both...  :cuddle;

tweety, now that he's on dialysis, he's going to need more and more protein, so yes, serve him the steak, beef, etc.  Dialysis strips protein, and his albumin will drop too low if he doesn't get enough.  They should be checking his potassium on a weekly basis, so get those results every week from the nurse.  Don't wait around for the dietian - the one at my center didn't seem to get the results for several days after the labs were actually taken.  If his potassium is in the normal range, he can have an occasional serving of potato.  Just don't make it the main focus of the meal, or give him seconds of it.  Don't forget his binders, though - increasing his meat consumption will raise his phosphorus if he's not taking enough binders.

I had chips and salsa, dang good but I think that is more like a snack.

Has anyone skipped eating just because they were too (lazy) to cook? For me it's not really lazy, I just am experiencing so darned much leg and knee pain lately. Guess the pain overpowered the hunger tonight.

There are a small number of desserts and sweet dishes that are popularly thought of as being unique to Australia:

Anzac biscuits
Frozie cup
Lamingtons
Pavlova
Vanilla slice
Musk stick

All of them are great sweets or desserts. Most those cakes in the picture i attached were not really australian, most of them were italian style cakes and sweets.
