Codfish tongues are delicious, if you like fish at all they're like the choicest possible nuggets!  If you detest all fish and seafood, you will hate them, otherwise, they're brilliant.

DW, I'll eventually do a post on pot roast on my blog. It's actually much simpler than it sounds, since practically all of the time that goes into it is just sitting in the oven. I'd do a post sooner, but we just made pot roast and still have leftovers, and I didn't get any pictures.

I had wings from Hooters. Not so good for you.

DW anything in the slow cooker is easy .  Just throw everything in and leave it. No worries of it burning either LOL!!  I'm famous for burning things up because I am usually trying to do too many things at once!!!  I use the slow cooker a lot!!

Twirl... how nice... thanks.

Del... I think I have a slow cooker underneath the cabinet somewhere.  Wonder if it would ever come clean?

It will come clean dw with a little soaking and scrubbing!!!  Makes things a lot easier. Make a big pot of something then divide it up in individual portions and freeze it. I do that with stuff all the time.  Makes for a good meal when you don't feel like cooking!!

Del, have you frozen cabbage rolls?  I always make such a big batch, but have never tried freezing them.   Thanks.

The recipe said 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper in the hamburger meat and 1/2 tsp in the sauce. Too hot for me!!!  That was the only thing in them to make them hot. They were tasty though!!!  I will make them again just with a lot less cayenne pepper!!  :beer1;

Just had a Charlies Barbeque beef sandwich for lunch and some homemade coconut custard pie.  I'll skip supper unless something good turns up.

Since I spent 3 hours at the nephs office today, no time to make dinner, so we " dined" out. Carl Jr's drive thru. The new Big Carls is really good, and so were the cross cut fries. Okay I will start being " officially" good tomorrow.

Last night, a slow-roasted pork loin with chipotle-barbecue flavors. Small Yukon Gold potatoes sliced about half an inch thick, boiled, then cooked with some butter and fresh thyme in a pan until crispy around the edges. Frozen asparagus, steamed in the microwave.

I think I'll go out for sushi tonight.  I'll have a spicy crab maki (roll) and a dynamite maki, both of which have no raw fish but I will have one tiny order of white tuna sashimi.  Maybe I'll throw in a seaweed salad with cold steamed shrimp.  I trust this place with their raw fish although I still eat very little of it.

I fried moose steaks tonight (t bones)  They were very juicy,tender and tasty. Just the right amount of spice. Had fresh peaches and cream corn on the cob. I also potatoes mashed with 95% fat free cream cheese and fat sour cream mixed in then whipped with electric mixer.  It was delicious!!

What's past is prologue

« Reply #3592 on: August 28, 2009, 05:19:03 PM »

We're using the last of my husband's pasta sauce that he makes any time we have too much veg and not enough time to think of different things to do with it all. He takes any tomatoes we have and throws them in a saucepan with some olive oil, basil, and veg - this time I think it was carrots, different colored bell peppers, green beans, onion, and assorted squash - purees it and done. I love the sauce. Usually I am a salt fanatic, but this has no added salt, just what comes from a few sliced olives and some parm that we add after the fact. We use it on tagliatelle, and even the kids eat it with enough added cheese.  :clap;

Oh, don't suppose anyone has any ideas for fennel (the fresh stuff)? We received a load of it in our CSA box yesterday, and are pretty well stumped as to what to do with it.

Sauce sounds great.  Never thought of squash but nice idea.

I love fennel in any stir fry and it is also excellent as a salad with sliced oranges and a citrus vinaigrette.  I like to slice it with a mandoline.  Thinly sliced red onions are nice too if you like onions.
At Christmas I use fennel in a stuffing recipe along with pears, toasted almonds, prosciutto, onions and wholegrain baguette.  I occasionally grill it just brushed with olive oil.

Man Zach, so that's how you lost your fingers!!!  On a mandoline.  Shame really.  I tried slicing fennel once with a mandolin but nothing much happened so I gave up.  ;D
