Post by: Epoman on March 05, 2006, 04:31:39 PM
Come on all of your home dialysis people show us your home setup.

Post pictures here of your Home setup whether it be NxStage, Nocturnal, Aksys, CAPD, etc, etc. You get the idea. I will add mine as soon as I start my NxStage at home.

Please be sure to make the picture a .jpg and size the file down and keep it under 200kb. If you need help adding a picture or sizing it just ask.

- Epoman

Update: I will adding pics in this thread as I find them on the net and get the owners permission.

Thanks "Gus"

If anyone else has pictures PLEASE post them here.

Wow, it really IS small!

Its amazing little machine, espcially for dialysis patients on the go. I mean c'mon, you can move it anywhere around the house or even travel with it. Weighs only 70lbs but Nxstage is bringing the weight down to 50lbs......eventually, it will get smaller, that's their goal.

Yeah, it's only available in the USA rigth now, however there are plans to expand. I start my first day of training tomarrow. :o I'm scared shitless. As for the which state, just go to the nxstage site and contact them and ask them which states have reps.

okay :)

But these are not present since now I am on in clinic hemo 3 x a week (M/W/F).

These are in order:

CAPD through Fresenius in Canada (Ontario)

and the 2nd is CCPD, the Cycler machine through Fresenius again (even though now I hear PD has switched to Baxter just recently) and is called the IQ Machine.

That was near the beginning of my CAPD time at that time it was required at the beginning when you first "connect". Then you can take it off because of the great "snap-disconnect" feature from Fresenius (and as far as I know Baxter has this too).

When I first was doing PD back in 1990 you HAD to wear a mask for connecting AND disconnecting as there was no "fast connect" feature.

I am glad things have changed and improved medically in the last decade ;)

Hi Everyone,
Here's my husband Len during dialysis today with his favorite girl (Winnie) close by. Our other yorkie (Willie) is never very far. Winnie is a daddy's girl and spoiled rotten.

Yes, my husband does hemo at home. We have been for over three years. The dog never gets in chair until after Len is on and taped up. The doctor's have told us that the bugs and germs that are in our home he has been exposed to for years and they are no danger to him. More likely to get something from hospital, clinic and grocery store then at home. Home-hemo is the best thing for his health that we have done.

I was informed that the reason for the mask is to help prevent the spread of any germs from your mouth.

what States have that? I know they don't have it in my Canadian city yet :(

It's available in just about every state with-in the USA now.  PA has it to, including my city of Philadelphia but mainly only through Davita.

You still *have* to wear a mask when connecting.... yah the connection takes like 5 seconds... but you still are supposed to wear a mask and be in a sterile room. You dont have to wear a mask to disconnect tho.

You know, I've been thinking about a mini-fridge! heh.

What you can't see in the picture is that I have a big screen on the other side of me, so I can turn my head and watch movies. But most of the time I just read a book or get on the internet.

Here is my current setup at home using the Aksys PHD with the NxStage in the same room (was the NxStage looking to move in?). There will be some sad news soon about the PHD. I think the PHD gives the best dialysis, minute for minute, of any machine on the market at this moment.

Here I am using the NxStage on the road in August 2006. I drove from Seattle to Chicago with my dog and had a great time.  I love road trips. This shot is at the Elephant Head Lodge in the Shoeshone National forest about 5 miles East of Yellowstone on the road to Cody. I am on Fresenius APD and it is always great to see what else is out there. Never know when they might try to make you change.

I think we are lucky to be able to do PD as our dialysis.(I would rather skip it altogether, but if I really have to  :-\)
They are nifty little machines!

Wow! I'm on Fresenius, too, the machine is so heavy, and it's on its own stand that has the scale, so you GOTTA
use it.  I'm jealous of the portability of the Baxters! You guys have some neat setups there!  I've set my cycler on
one side of the bed, and my computer on the other. Since I rarely watch tv, read, mostly, I didn't worry about
having a tv to watch.  I just pile books on the bed, so  they are at hand!

I can't find my camera, but we bought this nifty rolling organizer at Ikea that I keep my on hand supplies in.

It has drawers and shelves on the front, a side rack with hooks to hang masks, clamps, etc. on the right side, magazine rack pockets on the back for my log and manuals and open shelves on the left, where I keep my paper towels, hand sanitizer, tape, etc.  I roll it next to the cycler for more surface space to connect the bags.

The way I have mine set up the Baxter guy keep saying that Baxter should start selling them.

Wattle, next time my fiancee comes to my house OR I bring the cycler to his, I'll have him take a picture of it. No, it's not a SleepSafe, I'll have to look tomorrow night when I go back to see what it is! I do have a case, just for the cycler, but not for the stand. It is just a hassle to pick up and carry
out the door to the car!

This is my 2nd time on PD and I've never before taken pictures of my setup.  Wish I had pictures from the first time.  It was back in the 80's (Nov 83-Dec87) and was that machine ever a monster!  Sure makes my Cycler look small in comparison.

Well, here goes.  I followed EPOMAN's instructions but if I messed up the picture sizes, I apologize and hope someone else can come to my rescue.  I'm not what you'd call especially computer savvy.

If this goes right, Picture 1 is "Cy", set up and ready to go for tonight.

Picture2 is Cy again.  Not sure that it shows up well but my husband had a piece of Plexiglas cut to size for the floor.  It makes moving the cycler around so easy.  Also we had the small dresser on the right built to match the rest of our bedroom set and it contains all of my smaller supplies, like for dressing changes and such.

Picture 3 is approximately 1 month's supply of fluid which we have stored in a spare bedroom closet.  I'm lucky in that my kidney center will deliver our supplies monthly as opposed to a two month supply at a time.  I don't know what I'd do with that much to store.

My husband and I travel quite a bit and while my favorite method is to have Fresenius ship a cycler and all the fluid directly to whichever resort we might be staying at, we have also repacked the cycler in it's original box and taken it along with us that way.  I'm pretty sure we've been able to travel much more on PD than I would have been able to with Hemo.

Well, I didn't get them attached in quite the order I wanted to but I think you'll get the idea.  Maybe someday I'll learn this stuff!

Thanks, MyssAnne,

I kind of like to be able to hide most of the evidence of my dialysis.  Except for the machine which fits pretty nicely back into the corner during the day, everything else is out of sight and mostly (but never completely) out of mind.  It works for me at least.

I think I posted a pic of my set-up somewhere??....but here it is again in the correct place! lol!! I use a modified small computer table on casters. The slide out keyboard shelf makes a great work area, and it only cost me $39.00. (Beware though, it was soooo cheap because it is made of particle board and doesn't handle stress well.) I use a 25ft heavy duty extension cord with my cycler, and with the ability to roll the table from room to room, as well as with the 25ft patient extension line, I can pretty much go anywhere I want around the house while connected-even outside on the porch. My supplies are stored in the bedroom closet. Thankfully 35 cases of solution and cases of all my other supplies, as well as my cycler table fit nicely inside and can be tucked away out of sight during the day when not in use. Browsing through the pics of other folks' setups really helped me to visualize how I was going to set up my cycler before I got started-this thread was a great idea!!!

LOL!!! yup!! u should see delivery day!! ughhhhhhh!! But I love being able to shove it all in the closet--atleast I don't have to see it until it's time to get connected. I think someone else mentioned how they didn't like evidence of dialysis all around the house, I feel the same way. I was greatful that everything fit so compactly into one closet! I did have to remove the closet doors, and the cycler table sticks out just a bit, but I replaced the door with a curtain so everything is outta sight, but like someone else said as well, outta sight, but never outta mind! *sigh*

I actually did give away all of my work clothes & shoes, so I'd have a closet to put the supplies in.  I can't wear anything but sweat/yoga pants with my PD belly anyway.    :P

Here's my NxStage/Pureflow setup. I'm also going to be getting a dialysis chair (I prefer sitting up during my treatments so I don't fall asleep and miss entering my treatment data), and when that arrives, I'll move the machine over and put the chair between the bed and the machine. I also don't have my full supply of cartridges and SAKs (I have enough for only six treatments right now), and when they arrive, I'll be kissing what little space I have right now goodbye. I do my first treatment at home tomorrow.

Wow, there are so many different setups. I really thought about putting mine in my bedroom, but I'm glad I didn't, because of the noise the pureflow makes all the damn time. Its kinda a white noise, so I don't notice it when I'm watchin tv, but I think it would drive me crazy if I had it right next to my bed.

Thanks for all the great pic's. By the way, I got a nice lazyboy type recline that is made out of stain resistant stuff. I spilled blood on it before and it came right out with alcohol. I can't count how many pens I've leaked on the chair, alcohol again to the rescue.

keep the pic's coming,
Jaybird

Here are some pictures of my home NxStage setup.  Our dialysis unit discontinued use of the pureflo unit so I hang bags of dialysate every day.  When I was training the biggest problem I had was finding things so one goal I had for home hemo was to be organized.  I bought a rolling Project Center from Sears.  It looks like a toolbox but the top has a plastic tray with a fiberboard insert an handy compartments.  When I placed the NxStage  on the cabinet the top sagged and after a day I could not get the top drawer open.  I went to my local lumber yard and purchased a 3/4 inch piece of plywood, cut it to size and placed it under the fiberboard insert.  This solved the weight problem.

All of the supplies I need, other than dialysate and saline, fit nicely into the drawers.  When I dialyze I keep a spare bag of dialysate and saline nearby.  To avoid fumbling for telephone numbers I placed the number of dialysis center on the side of the cart.  Frequently used items like tape, alcohol and Betadine wipes are kept in small open compartments on the top of the unit.

When the unit is not in use I roll everything into a spare bathroom.

I still need to make a few adjustments to make using this setup a little easier.  The pole for hanging the dialysate bags is a little high for my wife to reach.  A shorter pipe should solve that problem.  While I don't have a problem in my environment, raised door thresholds might present a problem for others.  The wheels on this unit are hard plastic, softer vinyl or rubber wheels would make it easier to roll the unit over bumps.

Kim, I don't have pictures, but it does depend, is this manual, or the cycler?  If manual, you'll get a pole that you can move around with you
wherever you go, quite literally! Yes, I have gone potty while on the manual!!

If it's the cycler, you gotta decide where it's gonna STAY, either by your bed, or by a couch/recliner, wherever you sleep.  It's gotta be close enough you can punch the stupid machine when it wakes you with its alarm. Trust me, it will. You also want the supplies close enough at hand so that you can set it up every day without too much effort.  The Fresenius cycler is on a stand, so a night table is good for smaller supplies to have at hand.  I have a shelf in the bedroom that holds the bags needed, cycler set, drain set, etc.  I hope you get some pictures, and more ideas, so you can decide how it's best for you!!

then I would start looking at my bedroom, next to the bed, if you sleep there (hey, some people sleep on the couch or a recliner!). you need an outlet, you'll need access to the bathroom, if it is close enough. If not, you'll need a 5 gallon gas jug. VERY handy, I use one for my house.  The smaller supplies can go in a plastic file type shelving uint, I have a 3 drawer unit next to the bed that holds my supplies (small ones!), with personal stuff on top. Including drinks  I always have a bottle of gatorade, and about 2 bottles of water. Plan to have your tylenol/pain killer there as well. If you eat, plan to have a drawer for foods that can stay in packages without spoiling

If you can, go with 2 week delivery of supplies. Try to be about 2 days ahead, for instance, if you know you use greens and yellows every day, I would ask for 9 boxes of each plus 2 of reds. Never hurts to have extras, nor does it hurt to have reds, just in case. The same with the supplies.

As for storing the boxes of bags (2 per box), If you have a corner in the bedroom, all the better. If not, just make sure it's accessible to you, you'll have to carry it to the bedroom every day. Gets boring after a while, but the alternative is NOT better!

AAAARGH!!!!! THREE months??!!!!!

Kim, You will not have a house. YOu will have a medical storage unit!!! Do you KNOW how many boxes that will be????? WAY  lots!!

Okay. best way to stack them. Long way facing you, so you can see the color as well as the date.
have them stacked by color, so you would have a stack of all yellows, a stack of all greens, etc.

Another thing I do is pair the bags. I do green/yellow so when I open the two boxes to get one of each out, I take the remaining two out and pair them, either put them in a box, or put them loose on top of their stack so they can be opened the next day. At that time you could put a cycler set with them as well. Handy dandy!

I use the drain set for a week, change it Sundays.  I was told that it was okay to use more than once, and it helps with the ordering too!

whoo. Three monthe??????

Marvin is very proud of his home "clinic."  We knew about a month in advance that we were going to start home hemo training, and Marvin went to work on his clinic.  We emptied a spare bedroom, and he set it up like he wanted.  Marvin has a recliner and a tv, plus we also have lots of storage bins and cabinets.  Here are some pics from his clinic:
1 -- Marvin during treatment
2 -- charts on the wall to remind us of the steps
3 -- counter (Marvin built the cabinets and bought the top for $12) for blood work
4 -- cabinet Marvin made
5 -- Marvin's tv and our dry erase board for figuring how much to take off and other notes
6 -- the small corner sink we had installed for the clinic (too bad Marvin's not a plumber)

In Marvin's clininc, everything has a place, and every storage place is labeled.  He made a really cool clinic, and we love it!  He set it up like he wanted it, and he insists on cleaning it and organizing it!

The first picture is my set up.  (chair $100 delivered from Craigs list!) I used to have a sleeper sofa where my set up is now.  >:(  But I'd rather lose my sofa and be dialyzing in my tiny apt than be in center.  I always joke about "my little crack house" After Vegas, Susie made me send her pictures of my apt, so she could see that I wasn't actually living in a crack house. (it is really just a run down bungalow from the 20's, it has a yard and plenty of sunshine and for NYC it is cheap - what more could a girl ask for?)

I'm expecting a delivery on the 3rd, so I'll include a shot of my wall of boxes then.

The second is my cannulation station/mayo stand (an architect's cart)

The third is the view from my chair.

This is my CAPD (manual) setup.  I just started a week ago.  My dialysis nurse requires 1 month of experience with manual exchanges before we do cycler training.

Basically, what you're looking at is an area of my bedroom with a table that my husband setup with two metal sheets on the top (so I can wipe down with clorox/water solution).  Boxes of yellow and green bags are stored underneath and tape, paper towels, caps, Purell, clamps, and masks are stored on top.  I have a chart hanging from my IV pole to capture pertinent data.  The chair is facing a TV mounted on the wall.  The only thing I lack is a little table to put remote, magazines, phones while exchanging.

Here is how I empty the bags (hubby put hooks under shelf).

We purchased an expensive cart ($279) from Target, but so far, this make shift setup is working just fine--especially if it's only for a month or so.  We'll probably take the cart back or wait and see if it works with the cycler.

Update...
I had an appointment today with the nurse to start my PD stuff...

I made a mistake earlier, its 1 month worth of supplies, not 3 months like I thought!

We are also the same, I have to do the manual dialysis first for a month , and then the cycler

Kim, I also had to do manuals for a month before they would consider training me on the cycler. It was actually quite useful to know how to do it, though, when there were occasional problems with the cycler.

Hmmm. Different policies with different centres, I guess. If I switch to PD, I would be able to start out on the cycler. I would be trained to do manuals as well, but I wouldn't have to wait for the cycler. My hemo access is working better now, so for now I'll be staying with NxStage, but it's nice to know what all my other options are before I need to change.

My very first post!  Been reading the forum for the past few days...very informative!

I was looking at the wonderful pictures everyone provided.  For CCPD, do you go through 3 bags/night?  How do you warm all 3 bags prior to administration?  Do you have to wake up in between bag changes?
Title: Re: Post pictures here of your Home Dialysis setup. ***NOW WITH PICS***
Post by: Ginger on August 03, 2008, 12:45:08 PM
The machines used for CCPD have a built in heater to warm the solutions.

Post by: RCA on August 04, 2008, 05:21:04 AM
thanks Ginger.  Is the warmer the flat part of the machine on the top?  I just noticed in the pictures one bag on the top of the machine but the other 2 bags may be sitting out on the side.  How does the machine rotate and warm the other 2 bags?
Title: Re: Post pictures here of your Home Dialysis setup. ***NOW WITH PICS***
Post by: Ginger on August 04, 2008, 08:13:40 AM
Yes, the warmer is the flat part on top of the machine.  The machines take the warmed solution from the bags on the heater to put in your abdomen and then during each dwell cycle they pump solution from the other bag/s into the heater bag to warm so that it is always warmed solution going into you. If you check out 'www.homedialysis.org' you can see the different machines that are used. 'www.kidneyschool.org' is also a good place to learn more about kidney disease. Kidney school is in modules that are easy to understand and cover labs, diet, living with CKD and more and you can learn at your own pace.

Here is our camping set-up. Our sleeping bags are spread out behind the cycler. We move it out of the way after the treatment is over. Otherwise there would be no room to move around. This was our first camping trip and my husband didn't take his big blanket as I advised him. He has a towel around his shoulders trying to stay warm! Live and learn.

What a great camping set up.  I first learned about NxStage just as it was launched, and had just that kind of set up in mind (I knew that I was going to start dialysis soon, and naively thought I'd be able to buy a NxStage and be on my merry way HAH - did I have a lot to learn!). I never went camping when I was on NxStage, but it is GREAT to know that people are!

Oh, and Paul, you do win.  That was my Sat am treat, put on Stern and listen as I puttered around the house - setting up etc.  I got rid of my cable last October (three weeks before I got my transplant) and have been happily spending all of the money that I have saved on other things.

Just so I understand, the Liberty if from Fresenius?  And it's a CCPD machine that you use for multiple exchanges during the night?  And you have to provide a stand for it to be on?

Currently I'm using the Fresenius Newton IQ and I know some people have found the stand to be cumbersome but I actually like the fact that I can roll the cycler off to the side and out of my way.  (I've posted pictures of my setup earlier in this thread but I'm not smart enough to know how to provide a link to my post!)

What do you do if you travel with the Liberty.  Do you take your stand along or do you assume you'll have something in the motel room you can use?

No one at my unit has mentioned anything about switching us to the Liberty but I guess I'm just curious in case they do decide to make us change.

It doesn't have to be on a stand, I just wanted it on one because I wanted to be able to move it around.  In hotel rooms I usually put it on a table, chair or the window sill... whatever I can find really.  It's a little difficult but I like it better than the Newton.

Hey, I'm sorry I didn't see your question 'til now!  I got the stand at Lowe's - I believe they have it online as well... let me see if I can find a link for you.  If you DO have an Ikea, you would probably be better off going there, price wise (we don't have an Ikea here).

Here it is: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=82541-362-6241&lpage=none

They had the little wooden and plastic pieces that go on top beside the cart at the store.  I don't see it on the website, but maybe check your local Lowes.  Good luck!

I'm bumping this so GraceP can have a look at some of the machines different people use.  They're all pretty small eh?  But the reality is that you do have a lot of stuff around your house.  You really can only do home haemo of either kind if you have a bit of spare room.

Yeah, i get a delivery once a month. 35 boxes approx. Lucky i have a spare bedroom for these.

I have heard in some places you can get fortnightly deliveries.

I hope I never see another PD box again!

This is our bedroom where my PD cycler lives.  Paul made a big sound proof box for it to sit in.  You can see Mayweed my 18 year old cat investigating - she never normally does that - she was just skiting for the camera ha ha.

Wow that's great to have a soundproof box! Is the machine very loud without it?

I'll submit a picture once I get my cycler. I do manual exchanges everywhere. I made a mobile dialysis kit to use in my truck, at work, anywhere. It works for me and all fits in a 19 liter box.

i used to do that too when i was on pd; i would connect 2 of the patient lines which allowed me to roam around the house and do whatever.  Luckily our house is a bungalow and it isn't big, so it was perfect.

OK, so here is my CAPD setup. The cart is the cart the center gave me for the Liberty Cycler. They gave it to me when I first started doing manual exchanges so I could use temporarily for CAPD until I got my machine for CCPD.

The IV pole they gave me didn't roll to well on my carpet so I ended up picking it up to move it anywhere until I got the bright idea that I could mount it to the cart and then they would move as one unit. The cart has big wide wheels that roll easy on the carpet. It works well for me.

I train on the cycler Monday, so this will all change then.

Edit: I should have closed the bathroom door so you wouldn't see the toilet. Oh well.

Thanks for those pics, HoD and kporter! The cart looks like a nice set up to stay mobile. We have hardwood, which I hate, but it may come in handy after all. And kporter, I've seen toilets before.  ;)

Since I've moved, I have a different dialysis setup. My cycler sits on a swivel so I can reach it from either my chair or my futon. Despite what it may look like in the fourth picture, I don't use the duct tape to secure my needles.  :)

I am new member to this forum and first want to thank PROFUSELY the operators of it, it is a great service. THANKS.

In the near future I will be compelled to begin PD at home. I am seeking advice on what I "think" that I need to do to prepare. (Plan on overnight with a Liberty Cycler)

Our home is off the ground so we have easy access under the floor which makes addition to plumbing doable. That said, I am thinking of installing a free standing bathroom style vanity next to my bed. This would have drawers for storage, a wide surface area measuring 45 inches total width, and a small, say 8 inch diameter basin on one end. The cycler would be placed on the other end with room for the bags of liquid to lay flat on the surface.

It would seem that having a basin at this point would be a benefit, washing up and the like. Aside, we do have an attached bath but it is across the room from the side of the bed that I would have to use a long discharge tube.

I could discharge the effluent into the basin that would be connected to the sewer or I could have access to the drain line after the basin and before the drain penetrates the floor.
In either case would smell be an issue?
If so I could address that.
Seeing the numerous pictures is a huge help in my planning. I can readily see that I will need much more storage drawers than will be in the vanity.

Thanks and I look forward to any comments.

The big risk with PD is peritonitis, and the way to avoid that is to be OCD about hand washing and sterility.

A treatment room basin is a great idea.

Using tv tray table:  We do home hemo and use a small wooden tv tray table as our "treatment table". I wipe it down with disinfectant every day prior to treatment but of course, the wood started peeling away -NOT GOOD! So, I bought some stick on clear/transparent contact paper and cut it to the size of the tray table. Now it is wipeable and every so often I can easily pull it off and put a fresh "cover" on. sorry, wish I could provide a picture but no camera..

I use an overbed table like the kind in the hospital for setup.  The surface is plastic and easily cleaned, and once I am done with setup it provides an ideal overbed platform for my laptop.

Would love to be able to get one of those for my husband someday. Would be perfect for bed or his recliner. I wished we could have taken the one we used during training for home hemo at the clinic but nah, something told me they'd never let us take something like that home with us.

Hemo Kristina.  Got the bed as he may eventually do overnight....but right now is doing every second day, or night, whichever works around me actually as sometimes I need to work at our salon...never know when I may have to go in when staff let me down....like the last week!  :stressed;
I had the carpet pulled up and industrial vinyl laid on the floor, so any spills can be cleaned easily.  This room had been my office....
we had a pull cord put through the ceiling to switch light on/off above bed and as it's winter here right now it's a cosy room off the lounge with the wood heater close by. Am pretty pleased with how it turned out.

We have carpet in our treatment room....we placed three horse barn pads down to sit machine (from Tractor Supply), chair (Lay Z boy deluxe model in leather), supply container for disposables,  and rolling caregiver stool like they use in center. Works great. Its heavy black rubber but no issues with spilled solution on carpets. Its important to get everything within close reach to make it go easier and faster.

Nice looking setup that you have.
Question about the roller drawer cabinet. Is that a "mechanic's" tool cabinet? Looks like one. That is a great idea.
Please confirm,

FINALLY, figured out how to get pictures off my phone.  I did it once before, but it's been a couple of years, at least.  Now that I've figured it out again I feel pretty stupid, again, as it is actually quite easy.  D'oh moment!  I just need to remember, when Windows makes that noise when i PLUG IN THE PHONE, TO OPEN THE PHONE AND PUSH THE ok bUTTON.   Damn capslock button!

So, finally, here is a picture of my Cycler at Home, sitting on my fishtank table/stand. Top covered with aluminum foil that I can sterilze easily as I doubt if anyone can sterilize plywood easily.  Lower shelf has boxes of supplies.  IV pole on the left side, and you can almost see into the hallway the first of many stacks of PD solutions in boxes.

Next time maybe I should turn on a couple of lights, or try midday when it is lighter.

Oh, and you can barely make out my drain bucket that I've forgotten to empty THREE TIMES, so far, sitting at the base of the IV pole.  I could run a drain hose to the bathroom, but with my luck I or the Wife, or Dog, or Cat, would trip over it during the night.

Thanks for sharing your setup, Charlie B53! I am still using a wooden TV tray table for my husband's setup. I bought a roll of clear stick on contact paper and cut it to the size of the tray table. It makes for a good wipeable surface and is easy to replace when needed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it so if your aluminum foil is working good, then great. Just thought I'd share my idea here.

LOL

Because I'm a 'Guy',  I wouldn't have thought of either shelf paper or drawer liner.

I will definitely be looking for next time, as even the heavy gauge foil is very easy to get a hole in it, and that defeats to whole purpose of the cover.

I notice most pics are from 2006   Getting ready for Home APD and would love some input with pics on set-ups.  I've done ours in my head and physically rearranging right now for a Friday home PD start up.  Prior one year for Russ on In-center Hemo.  Switching to get away from inefficient and unfriendly center in Fl as snow birds.  Also to keep consistent and have some daytime free.  2 older dogs in home. Any current  input appreciated THX

I don't have a way of getting a picture of my set up, but I can describe it.  I keep my cycler in my bedroom on a cart which I got from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/TRINITY-EcoStorage-3-Tier-Chrome-Cart/dp/B008ALBHWQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500228827&sr=8-1&keywords=TRINITY+EcoStorage+3-Tier+NSF+Chrome+Cart )

I keep the cycler on the top shelf along with space for one of the big fluid bags.  The other bag sits on the cycler itself and a third bag sits on the shelf below the cycer.. To the right of the bag on the top shelf is a basket that contains hand cleaner and Alcavis and towelletes for cleaning the cycler and and shelf.

On the 2 bottom shelves I have various office storage container with drawers for stuff like sterile gauze, tape, syringes and heparin, minicaps, etc. and a container for patient line and drain line extensions.  I have a big bag (with handles) that hangs on the posts on one side of the cart and that bag contains disposable cassette sets.

There are additional outposts throughout the house where I have various supplies stored.

Although I set up my cycler in my bedroom I actually do the final patient line hookup in my bathroom.  I set it up this way because i, too, have an elderly dog and she is often on my bed when I set up the cycler.  I know she's not supposed to be there breathing on everything but I draw the line in kicking her out of the room.  And I figure she and I pretty much share a microbiome after 13+ years of living together.

Thanks for input - Last night was first at home.  We found a Kitchen Island on Wayfair with 3 drawers, 2 shelves and wheels. I've set it up in Dining Room which is central to bath, bedroom, and computer desk.  Our PD nurse visited yesterday and thinks we have a good set up.  Used a gate for awake dog during hook up. Left asleep dog laying which nurse said after observing them yesterday should work.  After a few more days if it works well I'll put a picture on.

Getting good at PD to me meant that: It would not take over the whole house; that we would not make goofs because we were disorganized; and that my hubby would not feel overwhelmed. I figured it’s hard enough to have a permanent body hole to deal with.
I really like the way we got it arranged, and so do our PD nurses (they took pictures to share with other patients). We found some non-medical items that helped and I wanted to share these ideas here:

1.   The tables are actually a set of tables made for camping called the Coleman 4-in-1 Table http://a.co/aM7HPPY (http://a.co/aM7HPPY). We really like this part of the set up because the tables are nice and narrow, letting us set up right in the entrance hallway and yet not be in the way (being here puts the machine about halfway between the bathroom and the bed). The table legs are adjustable, so we were able to get the height just right. It’s made of aluminum so it’s easy to keep clean and spills don’t hurt it.
2.   Under the left table is where we store a little trash can (for the small bits of plastic, paper and cotton trash) as well as the scale. Easy to pull out when needed and then slide back out of the way when done.
3.   Under the table is a cat’s litter box (size Large) made by Petmate http://a.co/08wSl2u (http://a.co/08wSl2u).  I bought this to put the drain bag in because we had a couple of mornings where we woke to find a wet, sticky floor from a small leak. This litter box is lightweight yet strong enough to let us more easily carry the drain bag to the bathroom. It’s big enough that the drain bag isn’t cramped, yet it’s short enough to fit under the table.
4.   On the left table is an 18”x24” aluminum cookie sheet http://a.co/8Zbuc1l (http://a.co/8Zbuc1l). I got this because it has a lip so the bits and bobs don’t accidentally get brushed to the floor while hooking up. And being metal, it’s easy to keep clean, too.
5.   Sitting on the left side of the table are two containers meant for arts ‘n crafts called the Artbin Super Semi-Satchel http://a.co/7kY0v0W (http://a.co/7kY0v0W), but we use them to store the small consumables so my hubby only has to carry the bags of liquid, cassette and drain bag to the station each day. These containers have dividers in them to help keep things organized. We have two: One for the daily hookup (I labeled it “Table Kit”, and one for dressing his exit site (I labeled it “Bath Kit”). These are handy also when we travel because their lids snap securely in place and their handles are, well, handy!
6.   Behind the wall, out of sight most of the time, is a little refrigerator & microwave that we set up so that he has access to snacks in the night when he can’t sleep. I think that goes a long way toward feeling less trapped by the tether.
7.   The main storage and trash are in a nearby bedroom, out of the way. The large trash (all the plastic jazz) goes into a laundry hamper that has a handle and two wheels because this stuff becomes heavy by the end of the week. I got the hamper because it was larger than kitchen trash containers and the plastic fit inside more easily. Unfortunately, the 35-gallon trash bags that work well don’t quite fold over the hamper’s larger lip – that bit could be better.
8.    My hubby makes sure to ‘break down’ the cardboard boxes daily so that they don’t take up a bunch of room and then all this goes out on trash/recycle day – nowhere near as big a deal as it was when we first started.
Anyway, just bragging I reckon. I hope there are a few ideas there that someone may find useful.

the living room is the supply warehouse with 15-40 boxes at any one time
the bedroom is the clinic
the machine is on a 3 shelf wheeled metal cart from Home Depot or Sams $100
if you use a drain bag, it's on the floor in a plastic catch bin; I use a jug for drain which sits on the floor next to the cart
the plastic storage unit is 3 drawers from WalMart $30
my "end table" is a stool at a height right at my left hand
lighting is a triple bulb unit with added remote controls with remote button on stool
it's wired to just plug into the nearest outlet
hope this helps

LOL I have better words to describe it but yep.... I keep saying this stuff does not belong in a home.. Pretty soon there willbe surgery tables in the living rooms. The surgeon will just stop by  and do your surgery right there....

People should not have to be messing with placement of THEIR equipment that is on loan. Cart should be provided. Ask the dialysis center I need a cart....

I think it will be a mobile surgery vehicle, sort of like a bookmobile that pulls up in front of your house.

My mother in law (now deceased) had her tonsils out on the dining room table by an MD that made house calls.
