I have stopped smoking since I started dialysis again 3 weeks ago. :2thumbsup;  I was never a heavy smoker (3 or 4 smokes a day) so it was not as hard as I thought it would be.  I still really want a smoke but I guess that feeling never goes away.  I am just afraid that the smoking would make me feel worse.  And I feel crappy enough already.

Right on Boxman  :2thumbsup;  I am a smoker and have been for 26 years, i have tried several times to quit but i just cant let go, if i know i dont have a cigarette anywhere in the house, i am freaking out, but i can have a whole pack last me 3 weeks,  as long as i know they are there, i am ok,  i will smoke 1 a day, sometimes 2, but not usually.  Now, if i am having me a Margarita (or 2 or 3) i will have me a few more cigarettes than usual but i dont drink that much (any more) lol  :beer1;

My husband and I quit two days before his last kidney was removed--April 12,2006 was our last cigarette.We quit cold-turkey.We have struggled at times,but have remained resilient.  It is hard to stay quit even now-when they almost make me sick smelling the smoke around other people,and yet,I still want one myself.!!

I love a shot of seagrams extra smooth vodka-with a bite of lime. ;D

I have never smoked... I cant even stand the smell of it. YUUUUKY. I used to drink when younger, never liked beer... only mixed drinks, usually ones that taste fruity... I still like one once in awhile but to be honest I havent had an alcoholic drink in like 3 years maybe longer... LOL

As of Feb 20/07 , it will be one year since I quit smoking.

My doctor told me there is two types of people on dialysis, those that smoke and those that don't, and at that point I was so down that I wanted to give myself any advantage.

As for drinking, I loved going to dances and having a few drinks with friends, but now it just makes me to bloated.

Besides i save every ounce for water.  God I miss gulping tall glasses of water

The best way to quit smoking is to be thoroughly disgusted with smoking. I know, sounds obvious but true.

i quit smoking 30 years ago, long before the kidneys did. now as to drinking the fat lady has pretty much sung on that one too. i still have a glass of red wine every now and then, not even one a month though. and if we go out i'll have a midori sour. however i don't ever intend to be drunk again.

 :thumbdown; Smoking is a big no no here if you want to be on the cadaver waiting list. That should be all the incentive one

needs to give up.  :banghead; I am sure the occasional   :wine;  could slip by   >:D    :beer1;

I used to be a heavy vodka drinker, like every night of the week. Now I haven't had a drink in a year and a half, but  now I am starting to think I would like a couple a few times a week. I was a pack a day smoker but now I light one up and only take a couple of puffs. Smoke about 3 a day.

I'm in Las Vegas for a couple of days and think I might be the only person who isn't drunk or at least a little tipsy.  Its frustrating to have to follow people on foot who are obviously staggering where there isn't room to pass them.

At least they aren't drinking and driving.  Nothing has happened on the road YET that would lead me to believe my days are numbered.

I smoke and drink more now than before, mostly when I'm by myself not wanting to do it around people. This is not good for me and would like to quit.

Many say just quit I did, well I've tried just quitting and it doesn't work for me like that. Been smoking since around 12yrs old and now I'm 50yrs old. I know i need to quit to be healthier.
