Hi, I'm still having pronlems coming in 5-6 kilos over my dry wieght. I have come in 10 over before. Those are the days I pay for it with cramps. I try to tell them as soon as I begin to feel the cramps coming. Some days I dont feel the cramp until its time to get off the machine. As soon as I sit up my stomach cramps. All your suggestions sound good. I've tried drinking a measured amount all day and end up drinking it all that morning. I think I'm goiung to try the pop ciclce and see if that will help. If I had been a exercise type of person, I wouldn't be in the condition I'm in now. . Later BD

BigDadii,
Do you have any kidney function left? In other words, do you still pee?

I still pee... maybe 100ml a day.. 200ml on a good day (actually the last few days a little more has been coming out.. be still my beating heart lol). I have a eGFR of 6 (bleah). I might try some iced tea on the way home and see if it helps any..... if I could drink something like that that would help that would be awesome

Make sure you put lemon juice in your iced tea. I think that is the critical ingredient. I even add it to my water bottles now.

i have found i drink more if i have juice or soda, therefore unless i eat out i only have water. if i find myself extra thirsty i have ice water. i've tried frozen grapes, but don't like them. sour candies work well. something high in sugar or salt will make you thirsty.

One time I went in 0.6kg over which freaked me out because I had about half a bottle of wine the night before!! LOL. That was sweet!! Usually I am about 2kg over...
Definitely when you work hard and have things to distract you the thought to drink is less.. Sometimes I work all afternoon and am so busy I forget to be thirsty and realise in the evening that I haven;t had anything to drink...

If it reduces your fluid buildup, why not? Dialysis feels good when you don't have any fluid to pull off.

Sorry, but when you don't have excess fluid to pull off, you feel much better after dialysis. No cramps, no nausea, no low bp. It works for me.

I just bought this gum called Quench from Dick's Sporting Goods. Baseball season and it helps keep your mind on the game and not how hot and thirsty you are.

I have found that 1 bottled water (.5L, .9 FL oz) adds about a half a kilo of weight. So i try to limit myself to 6 waters bottle a day. I do fine with 2-3 though.
In a hot place you should sweat out about 2 cups a day (approx .2L) more if your active. Maybe if you look at the numbers and do some math you can control your thirst level a bit more?
But Im aware sometimes nothing helps when your just hot and thirsty.

Hold on am I reading this right? You drink 3L (6x500ml) of water a day and still are OK with the fluids in terms of dialysis? wow!!

I drink quite a bit myself but I still have good urine output. I guess as long as I don't have any fluid gain, I won't worry about it.

I still drink alcohol with no problems and no objections from the staff. It does reduce fluid gain because it tends to dehydrate. I'm not diabetic nor do I take any meds that might interact. Beer is fairly high in potassium. I usually stick with red wine or vodka and cranberry juice. Most people think I'm crazy (maybe I am) but it works for me.
