tamara    may I say I love your pee-pee bag, it brings out the color of your eyes

these mushrooms are not cut into pieces, they are whole
they are the fancy mushrooms
I guess you could say they look like palm trees, however, penis was the first thing to come to me

Maybe straw mushrooms???  The ones that come in tins and they use a lot in Chinese cooking?  As to the analogy with penises, in the interest of complete descriptive accuracy....would that be a circumcised or uncircumcised mushroom?   Twirl, we gotta talk about your fantasy life if mushrooms are beckoning like this. :rofl;

My dinner last night was an exercise in exquisite torture.  I was at a lovely and extravagant bat mitzvah last night for the daughter of a good friend at my gym.  There was masses of food starting with the circulating trays of smoked salmon canapes, authentic Mexican guacamole,  shrimp tempura, chicken shwarma mini pitas, spring rolls, samosas, beef satays.  Moved on from there to a live show of acrobatic dancers during a sit down dinner which began with plates of assorted salad type dishes (humous, baba ganouj, tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella, waldorf salad, roasted red peppers, avocado grapefruit salad) and moved through to a selection of hot and cold dishes from food stations around the room.  It was an international event (the family is from Mexico but there were people there from all over the world and some had come from as far away as Brazil and Japan) so the offerings included fresh sushi, mini burgers, grilled salmon, chicken piccata, stirfried selections of meats and veggies and of course at around 10:30 the dessert stations opened with 4 different tables of fruit, pastries, cakes and pies, three flavours of chocolate fountains and for good measure, an ice cream bar.

So speaking of fantasies...clearly I'm in a food phase at the moment.  Could it be the restrictions on the renal diet are getting to me?  You'll notice that I carefully made inventory of all the temptations BUT I actually didn't stray too far from the allowable for us.

My choices were...several corn tortilla chips (low salt variety) two with a speck of guacamole,  a little eggplant salad, grilled zucchini, 1/4 pita, bit of salmon, bit of chicken, veggie fried rice, stir fried veggies and for dessert six tiny nibbles of different non-chocolate things and a little pineapple and watermelon all washed down with a Perrier and lime, heavy on the ice.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching everyone stuff their faces but since this is my two-days-between-dialysis stretch I didn't find it that hard to be good.  At first I thought I'd avoid temptation by totally ignoring all the goodies but I instead got right into appreciating the thought of all those delicious tastes but only eating the safer choices.  It felt strangely enough as if I had tasted them all because I let myself smell things and imagine them but then chewed on a crisp, unsalty corn chip.

This was my first encounter with overwhelming gastronomic temptation since starting dialysis this time around and, as you may have gathered by now, I'm an incurable foodie-type person from way back in the day so I was somewhat worried about how I'd manage.  Now, before my next D session I have to get through a restaurant dinner tonight with friends and my monthly lunch with two girlfriends tomorrow.  Plain pasta anyone?

monrein, I want to come hang out with you. It is so hot here that I loaded up the crock pot with a roast and vegetables and put it out in the garage to cook all day. Len thought I had lost my mind but the house didn't get hot so it worked for me.

We are having grilled chicken marinated in A1-Cajun marinade, garlic and butter green beans, and cole-slaw.

The pups want to say they are having Blue Buffalo Dog food - white fish flavor and couldn't they have just a bit of the chicken. Alas, they love chicken, but are allergic to it.

We had roast beef, with white rice, turnip greens, cornbread ( just a sliver for me) and yam patties, iced sweet tea
and rolls.  I drank water.  For desert we had cut up cantaloupe with cool whip. Yummmmm so good.....
Here in Georgia we make our hush puppies with onion in them.

What are hushpuppies? (I only know the shoe, no sauce LOL)

About a 1/4 cup of corn meal deep-fried. Comes from the South.  Also called croquettes.

It can also be made of mashed potato with a baked corn meal coating on the outside.  YUM!  But watch the potassium.

Ooooh those do look DELISH!

I will send some recipes
they are made ususally of cornmeal
fried
good with cole slaw
and catfish
and green tomato relish
some people had jalapenos to the mix

Never had catfish either.
I love jalapenos.
What is in the green tomato relish? Are they unripe tomatoes?
Yes, recipes please.

I'm coming too.  Save me some Twirl.

Tonight after D, I had some of my friend's mother's home made gnocchi (a wee bit as they're made from potato and flour) with a meatball, peas and mshrooms, some pasta with chick peas.  Rice pudding and chocolate animal crackers for dessert.

I'm still hungry and still amazed to have my appetite back.
