As soon as I started playing the Johnny Mathis song (#3), Carl says, "Oh, Johnny Mathis!"

Thanks, Dan.

What about the words?  Did you listen to them or just listen to JM tones.... ?  lol

And the Carousel song always reminds me of a hamsters going round and round in a wheel.  Another one was "Stop the World!  I wanna get off.)

Gwyn and I start our Neupogen injections first thing tomorrow morning. Happy Valentines to us!  :sarcasm;

We have a whole procedure we have to follow. I have to take a pregnancy test first, then we are supposed to lay out our supplies on a clean surface, wash our hands, fill the syringe, switch out the needles, inject (checking for flashback first), and then Gwyn has to repeat the whole process because his dose is too large for a single injection (poor guy). We write down the times that we inject, and any symptoms we are experiencing. Then we do it all again about 12 hours later. We are going down to Chicago Tuesday to have lines put in and spending the night there so we can get to our stem cell collection first thing Wednesday morning. This means that the pros will be giving us our last two injections, and on Monday we fully intend to hit up our GP for help with one of the doses. That means we just have to soldier through about four of these on our own. :yahoo;

I am happy with how the FDA handles this - we have to keep all of our empty vials to give back to the hospital because they will be auditing the study to make sure that the Neupogen is actually used. I thought that was nice, since this is research that we are all paying toward with our taxes.

At the end of dialysis the tech took my temp, twice.  He then informed me and the nurse that I was running a fever.  The nurse said that the machine temp was just set too high, no worries.  It is now 6 hours later and I still have a fever.  Dang, they did a good job warming my blood.  :rofl;

Good morning IHD family!  Sitting here in my jammies with a cuppa Harmony Bay Hazlenut coffee, catching up on the antics of all my cyberfriends.

This week has been a blur.  I played ambulance driver Thursday evening, SIL running a high fever, took her to the ER where she was admitted to ICU.  Turns out she had an infection in her lungs and with the chemo treatments, her cell counts were so low that she couldn't fight off a wet napkin.  I've been burning up the roads between staying with her in the hospital and taking hubby to dialysis.  But...he's off now till Tuesday and she is doing much better after some antibiotics and 5 units of blood products...so I can BREATHE!

Looking forward to doing mundane things today...like feeding hay to the cows and doing some much needed household chores.

Argh Looney I feel for your sil.  The temp thing is such a pain.  You will have to be quite forceful sometimes as, speaking from experience, it's all ok the first couple of times, but then you start to really really HATE the ER and the thought of going in, so will try to talk your support people out of taking you in.  I vividly remember trying to explain to Paul that it was probably nothing and it was only a little bit high, and we should wait etc.  Or I'd try crying so he wouldn't make me go in.  Oh it's just awful.  She's so lucky to have such a support team.

« Reply #22270 on: February 14, 2010, 04:53:53 PM »

My husband and I got through our first injections! Gwyn gave me mine first, in my leg. As soon as he got the needle in, he exclaimed "You can't even feel it going in!" Wha....??  :waiting; Maybe because you're giving the injection to me, not yourself? "Oh, I meant the needle just slides in, you were worried about how much pressure to use." :rofl;

Then I injected one in the back of Gwyn's arm, and that went fine, but a bit more blood than I wanted when it was over. He suggested we do his second one in his abdomen, but he started shaking so much and accidentally touched his abdomen with his hand after I sterilized it, so I decided he wasn't ready for that and injected the back of his other arm. He jumped when I put the needle in, and that was a bit discouraging, since I knew I had driven the needle in a bit too forcefully. I blame Gwyn mostly. He keeps telling me it's like throwing a dart. Well excuse me, I am not much of a darts player and I always have to hurl those things like I'm pitching a baseball. Now the analogy's stuck in my head. We have another go in about an hour.

Apparently, our side effects will be reported to the company since this is a clinical trial. We both experienced fatigue, nausea, muscle aches, and dry mouth. Gwyn also reported 'euphoria', so if you ever take Neupogen and read the little insert and it says rare side effects include euphoria, that's all because Gwyn couldn't stop laughing for about 10 minutes this morning. Just ignore that one.

When I was on Neupogen, mine were prefilled syringes and the side effects I had where very painful. Any motion I made hurt like a son of a gun for many hours. So I gave them at night.
