You're afraid of WHAT???

Well believe it or not the only thing i am afraid is dolls! When i was around 3 or 4 years old i went to a department store with my grandmother. I was always curious about everything. Well she had to go to the bathroom. She told me to wait outside the door. At that time we didn't worry about the weirdos we have today. So i saw a door and went in the door closed behind me and there i was in a room full of manakin body parts. I couldn't get the door open so i started to scream and cry. The manger and my grandmother came in. My grandmother of course talked to me and told me not to be scared. For some reason that fear has lasted. I know it is strange for a man of 51 to be afraid of dolls. When i was in Nashville i lived with a woman for three years. She was a doll collecter. One time i took a nap in one of the bedrooms in her condo. I walked in and there i was in a room full of dolls. She had those real old ones with teeth and eyes that rolled. I had to get rid of my fear. I fell asleep and woke up to hundreds of eyes looking at me. I'm still freaked when i see dolls!

I don't like those dolls with the opening/closing eyes either, and whilst I'm not scared of them, I've always found doll collections somewhat eerie.

have you read The Tommyknockers by Stephen King? He does a creepy doll-collection scene.

I am with Nina - I am terrified of clowns...but mine stems from reading the book "It" by Stephen King.  That did me in.  I am also afraid of ventriloquist dummies~shudder....

I am afraid of heights, really afraid.  We drove up a mountain in NH and I was bawling my eyes out.  Bridges over water do me in.  I can't drive over it myself, I have panic attacks.  Being a passenger is also very hard for me.

I hate bugs, especially cockroaches & spiders.  I used to work in an office building that was partly in the Boston Harbor and there was a greasy spoon restaurant on the first floor.  All perfect for Roaches.  We used to be infested with those damn things.  They used to drop from the ceiling in the bathrooms, OMG!  Thankfully that never happened to me.  I would have run out with my underwear around my legs!!!!  I did have a few show up in my cubicle and I used to make my boss and co-workers take them out.  I never wanted them to step on them (ugh the sound!) not only for the sound, but because their eggs could be in the carpet. UGH I am grossing myself out now.

Lastly, this is a very weird phobia.  I hate the smell and touch of coins.  Just the thought of it makes my stomach do flip flops.  Oddly enough, Rob collects change in this big water bottle.  If for some stupid reason he leaves it out, I pick it up with a napkin or just slide it into the garbage with an object.  I hate the stuff!!!!  Even worse is when people keep it in their hands and let it fester in there, ugh.  OR when people put it in their mouths.  BLEAH.  Forget quarters at the bar, that is beyond nasty!

remember the troll dolls with the wild hair and and you would kinda spin them to make there hair even crazier, they had red lips that freaked me out well my grandma had like a million of them in the spare bedroom and one afternoon she put me down to nap and all those red lips were freaking me out so I bit them all off!!! When she came in and found all her trolls with no lips she almost fell over laughing. No troll will every mess with me again

I am afraid of any kind of fast crawling things, but especially bugs.  Not knowing where they are from one moment to the next terrifies me.

I am also afraid of embarrassing myself in public in anyway.

When I read it I laughed cuz we had the same phobia.

Here's a good one.  We picked Brendan (son we are in process of adopting) up yesterday for the weekend.  He brought one of his books, from the Goosebumps series.  It was about ventriliquist dummies!!  OMG!!!!  He asked me to read it while we were driving home and I was freaking out internally.  Rob knows about this phobia and was chuckling because of the irony.

Then, Brendan said he would like to have one.  I said now way Buddy, not while you live under our roofs.  hahahaha 

Seriously though, how freaking ironic is that?

I have one fear that I can think of.  A lot of people when the see me in the middle of this will say, "He has a fear of Heights",but that is just not true.  For me, it is a fear of falling.

Lets say I'm on the roof of a tall building (flat roof) and there is no raised edge or guardrail along the outer edge of the roof.  I will have a very very hard time getting myself out to the edge of the roof to look over (I'm afraid my foot will slip off of the edge and I'll fall over).

However, if there is even the smallest raised edge around the edge of the roof (even 1 brick high) or there is the smallest type of guardrail, I'll be able to run right to the edge, look over, lean over and do other crazy stuff.

Therefore I think I have a fear of falling, and not a fear of heights.

I am the same way!  I am so afraid I'll fall off of a building when I'm looking off of a rail or out a big window.....crazy thing is, I used to be a flight attendant!  Ironicly, I wasn't afraid when we were in the air.

Jbeany you are completely nuts. No one should jump out of a perfectly good airplane.  It is not the falling that hurts, it is the sudden stop at the end that is painful!

Thought it was only me who was that daft  this thread has made me feel a lot better  .  I can't get near the edge of anything or even look over into a stairwell, nothing like that.  Another totally random fear I have is wasps, I can't be in the room with one, I can't even watch them on TV or look at a pic in a book.  We had a huge European Wasp in the kitchen last summer, I just had to leave the outside doors and the windows open and shut myself in another room til it went (I have a glass kitchen inner door and kept peeping through that in case you wonder how I knew when it had gone. ).
