10 years on and off dialysis

« Reply #25 on: August 23, 2013, 10:46:09 AM »

This weekend we are going to finish decorating our living room. There is a huge crack running from floor to ceiling in the corner (movement crack new property) which we need to fill with filler and then paint in Eygptian Sand colour and then it will be all done. Sadly we have to move a bookcase and about 100 odd books to get to it !!! but be good to get it finished. Weather is looking very unsettled for a bank holiday weekend (storny) ... so out to dinner Saturday night at the pub with a friend, and watch the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday. Come on Lewis  :ukflag;

Today I am driving from Phoenix to Los Angeles by myself. It's only 5 1/2 hours but is the longest drive I have ever done alone.
My son is happily moved in at Univ. of Arizona in Tucson. Gonna miss that sweet kid!

Don't really have any plans yet.  Except for a movie or 2 at our local AMC theater.  We picked up a gift card at Safeway yesterday to get the extra fuel rewards.  And if we're up to it tonight we might go after dialysis.  Which wouldn't be till after 10 pm.  If it's nice we might go down to Alki (Seattle beach) and us a Groupon for one of the places you rent bicycles and surreys.  About a month ago we used a Groupon at a Seattle arcade!  They have a bunch of classic arcade games and some pinball machines.  Those were where I pretty much stayed.  lol

I have most of my laundry done, and this afternoon I need to go see my dad at his assisted living. They want me to talk with him about maintaining better hygiene or letting them help him with it. So far he has been adamant about not letting them help. Sigh.

Then maybe a trip to the mall. I have a pair of jeans that I need to return. They are exactly the same size as two other pair that fit perfectly from the same company. These are waaaay too long and oddly baggy in  spots. I don't like going to the mall. But Carl will like visiting the Apple store, I imagine!  :2thumbsup;

The weather has been warm and sunny, but rain is supposed to move in for the rest of the weekend. I need to squeeze in a refreshing swim before that happens.

I didn't get very far with my wardrobe this weekend ... and ended up going shopping and buying a new patterned top, a grey jumper with cat's eyes on it, a new black handbag and black suede chelsea boots ... as well as ordering a black lace topped dress online as they didn't have it in my size. Now I definitely have to make some room somewhere!!!!  :o

Today we are having a lasagne tasting competion. Three of us, me, my partner Drew and friend called Carol are all cooking lasagne for dinner, to have with salad and garlic bread and wine.
We were having a debate as how you cook the best lasagne so tonight we are doing it for real.
My recipe includes mushrooms, red wine and garlic ... and plenty of herbs
Should be fun wonder who will win???   :clap;  :clap;  :clap;

And later on we might wander down to the local pub where the-man-in-the -hat (aka our postman and aka our first responder!!!) is singing tonight!!!!  :guitar:

Getting my gardens ready for the winter which feels simply strange since everything still looks beautiful.  However we  are going to France for just over a month at the end of Sept so don't want to return to lots of yard work in November.  Today is work at the lake and tomorrow is more wrk at the house.  Tomorrow afternoon I'm doing a consultation with a neighbour who just had a whole new landscaping thing done but has zero clue about how to care fr any of it.

What feels so terrific about this is having the energy to work steadily for hours on end and I take so much pleasure from any sore muscles or achy joints since when I'm on D work happens in half-hearted half-hour spurts and there is very little pleasure.  I never take my body for granted and this weekend is a good example of why.  This evening I'll do a two mile walk to sort out the stress of bending and pulling all day.

This evening I'll do a two mile walk to sort it the stress of bedding and pulling all day.

And this kind of work leads to really good sleep, too!

My years of being pre-D meant that, well, I pretty much left my back garden to do it's own thing.  My front garden gets full sun all day, but the back is heavily shaded AND it slopes downward.  I just didn't have the energy to tackle it.  But now I've redesigned it, creating "rooms" with benches and paving that I've been gradually putting down as I get a more concise idea of what I want to achieve (which is a more English country garden look than a more landscaped look).  So today I created my last "room".  We bought offcuts of Cherokee paving stone, and I created a small patio in front of my newest bench.  I created a new bed, using logs from several trees we had to either cut down or just trim.  At the entrance to this "room", I place a stepping stone that my mother had given me, hauling it in her suitcase all the way to London, and now it is back in the US.  What's nice about my new garden "room" is that I can see it from the bedroom.  Because of the way our property slopes downward in the back, our bedroom looks into the trees, so I have to look downward into the back garden, if that makes any sense.

Well, it is still very much a work in progress.

I was thinking the other day that it's getting close to October which is "monrien in France" month!  I'm hoping to go to London in November; I haven't been back since this whole kidney circus started. ::)

Like you, I enjoy the feeling of sore muscles due to playing in the dirt.  But I simply can't stand working in the sun.  Prednisone had made me truly hate the heat, and sunscreen makes me sweat even more.  I have to plan my gardening activities according to the temperature.

I hope you have a lovely time in France!  Don't forget to post pictures again!  I wait all year for those photos!

This weekend was our annual yard sale here at the Meadows. I only stayed out about an hour. It was 100 degrees here and that is a little too toasty for me. But, I got some good bargains and I was happy with that. Then today just a little more laundry and ironing and our wonderful Bible Study, then out for dinner. Just had a salad and one chicken breast. I think today I finally made my 8 oz of protein.

Well this coming weekend we may go to the Washington State Fair, former named The Puyallup Fair.  It's the last weekend of it!  I told John it depends on how I feel!  John needs to fix his car too!  He's been taking mine to work for the past 2 wks and I'm tired of being stuck at home during the day!   :banghead;

Last Saturday night we went to The Point Casino in Kingston, WA to an MMA fight.  My second cousin, Frankie Orr is a pro fighter and was fighting in the main event.   Frankie Orr wins his fight at 3:36 in the first round via TKO.  It was very exciting!   :yahoo; :yahoo;   I only got into MMA because of him!
