Well over a year ago the VA gave me a Health Buddy.  My BP cuff is plugged into it so two a day I take pressures sitting and standing.  Also enter morning weight and blood sugar reading.  My BP cuff died so I haven't been reporting.  I did send them an email telling them the cuff died and I needed a new one.

VA Nurse called this morning, asking why I haven't been reporting for the last NINE days.  Told her no new cuff yet.  She said to start reporting, just leave out the BP.

OK.

Little later the guy called, he had order my cuff early last week, hoped I would have had it by now, if not here in another day or two, call him.

OK.

Looked outside the front door, UPS had left it there.  Who knows when.  We don't use the front door.

I plugged it in and took my pressures, pushed the buttons and reported.

Back to my regular routine.

I bet you'll get your second cuff tomorrow (when you use the front door that is)

Already have TWO other second cuffs.  One came in the mail, I picked one up while I was at the VA.  BOTH are wrong, no 'port' to plug the Health Buddy into it.   No way to manually enter readings into the Health Buddy, so I didn't bother to take readings.  Probably should have just to keep my PD Log.  I got lazy.

So I have two spare units.

One with a medium cuff.

One with a Large cuff.

Anyone need one?

Hello Charlie, thanks for the offer but I don't need any cuffs and I am very sorry
that it has become so complicated.
I send you my best wishes and good luck from
Kristina.

I have been very keen to start with my regular walks again and went for a longer walk today with my husband.
I had a little giggle when we passed by the local butcher just round the corner, who advertises selling grouse, partridges
and pheasants... he certainly "has arrived"...

Hello Jean, you have made quite a good start to sort out your pantry and the sock-drawer.
Take great care and best wishes from
Kristina

P.S. I better get my "tin-hat" first thing tomorrow morning, because I practically live in the French-quarter of London
and they are "at it" with "Je suis Charlie" and there might be a predictable back-lash from the "others" coming along ...
... I just don't understand why they can't just get on with each other and get on with their life instead of all this ?

10 years on and off dialysis

« Reply #1763 on: January 15, 2015, 01:23:40 AM »

Not having to go to hospital at least three times a week or be fussed about with by nurses....and all that stuff.
TBH I didn't mind the first few years, as I was still passing a fair amount of urine and a lot fitter. I could take it in my stride but after two failed transplants,
going back on dialysis a third time was hard. I was poorly, I had poor access that was a major problem and I seriously considered stopping.
To go home finally, and do dialysis in our time, in my own house with someone I trust ... is a relief.
I am very lucky to have a partner prepared to train and very able with machines and needling... I think it will make a big difference to how I view my dialysis.
I am in control of all that happens now, and that's a good feeling!  :bandance;

How's your dialysis sessions going Kristina? What's your centre like?

Well done Sugarlump, I am very happy for you that things have now sorted themselves out so well...
... and I do hope, that everything keeps just like that and that you won't have problems again... fingers crossed!
... To answer your question: I am pleasantly surprised about my d.......-centre...
... and I have no problems with the nurses, as I feel well looked after. All the nurses are careful and hygienic...
(they always disinfect their hands and they always take new gloves from the disinfectant package and wear them),
whenever they "touch" my catheter (which they disinfect as well) ... and because of all these precautions,
I feel quite save about things as they present themselves at the moment...
...Of course, I would be so much happier if I would not need any d......., but as things are right now,
I do need d....... as it is my new life-line and the nurses assist me
as much as they possibly can to make this whole new experience more "endurable"...
Thanks again and best wishes from Kristina.

Today I had a bath!!!
Might not sound like much of an accomplishment but I have a kranky left knee at the moment
that really hurts like hell when I bend it. So getting in and out or bath is a feat in itself (but worth it)  ::)

Since starting with d......., I am regularly dreaming of having a nice bath again...
with beautiful classical music ... and nice refreshing herbal bath-salts...
Hopefully there might be a chance in the future... Whilst hoping for the future,
I try not to think about it too much at the present...

Hello Sugarlump, the doctors and nurses have not mentioned that I should have a fistula,
because my current dialysis-sessions are "only" meant to make me much stronger for my transplant ...
... I was told that with "the utmost strict hygienic measures being in place", my chest-catheter should be adequate...
I have also noticed that all the nurses and doctors at my dialysis-centre are extremely hygienic and their medical care is very impressive.

Somehow the "cold" I have had since Mid November has managed to plug my ears up. So far I have tried everything I know, including wax removal kits and flushing and flushing with warm water. So far, no results. Anyone have any ideas? So, it's kind of slowing me down, but I am still doing things the dialysis way, one at a time, so, on to the silverware drawer. You all have a good Sunday.

Hello Jean,
I don't know if that could help you in any way,
but in the few months before I finally started with dialysis,
I had constant flu-symptoms and as soon as I started with dialysis
all these strange symptoms suddenly vanished...
I do hope you are feeling better soon and I send you my
kindest regards, Kristina.

Oh, Kristina, I sure hope not. I get to see the neph in about 3 weeks, and other than this terrible fatigue, the running nose and the ache all over, I feel pretty good. Thanks for your input tho. I remember when my GFR went down to 16, I felt really bad and was vomiting once a day. Now that it came up to 27, those symptoms went away. This is so darned scary.
