Hey everyone at IHD, this is Maria, Katherine's youngest daughter. My mom asked me to get on here and let you guys know that she is in the hospital right now.

Here is the story as i know it: she was rushed to the ER with a really high fever. They figured out today (Thursday) that the fever was caused by an infection in her dialysis graft. The doctor first wanted to take it out but later decided to try to kill off the bacteria with antibiotics and heat on her graft. Hopefully it will kill off the infection and the graft can be saved. We should know by Friday or Saturday if the infection is getting under control. I will try to update you guys as i hear more about her condition. We do not know how long she will be in the hospital, if all goes well hopefully a couple of days but it could be longer.

Please keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers, she is one tough lady but as everyone on here knows... being on dialysis makes things so much harder on your body. If you want to call and talk to her and wish her well her hospital number is (909) 427-6576. I know she would love to hear from you, it would make her day.

If you would like to get a hold of me please send me an email at sotom@msoe.edu, i am at a conference so i will be checking my email sporadically.

Thank you for all of your support!!!!

Oh no...I'm so sorry to hear this.  I can't believe that despite her illness, she was thoughtful enough to get word to us about her condition.  I'm sure many of us would love to speak to her...are you sure this would be OK?  Please check with her first because I'm sure she needs her rest and doesn't need all of us phoning her and disturbing her.  If she would like for us to call, is there a good time to do so?  In the meantime, please tell her that we are all praying for her and hope that she will relax and let the hospital staff take good care of her.  Please keep us posted, OK?  And don't forget to ask her when she is feeling well enough to take a flood of well-wishing phone calls!
