Thank you for the update. Let's hope they beat the MRSA quickly and are able to get another good access going. I am so sorry for the misfortune of getting an infection after 8 good years of dialysis with that access. My prayers are with you.

Night before last, I had a terrible night's sleep. I awoke every two hours. Each time I woke up, I was aware of two things...one, my fistula was painful and two, this amorphous feeling of dread. It later occurred to me that I was thinking and worrying about kitkatz. I've never met her, but this situation has really been worrying. I can't come close to imagining what she must be feeling, but when I do try to imagine it, it makes me feel wretched. When I close my eyes and imagine what it must feel like to have IV needles in the veins of your feet...well, it makes me shudder. Isn't it odd that something that is happening to someone you've never met but have only communicated with on a computer can leave you feeling so upset and uneasy?
Is the infection being treated successfully? Losing her graft is just half the battle; is she still feeling the effects of the infection? After all is said and done, will they site a new graft, or is it just too early to be thinking along those lines just yet?
This is so upsetting. I am glad the surgery went well and that she is sleeping. Please give us more updates whenever possible. Thank you!

I'm glad the first part is over for her. My question is how is she going to get dialysis?
Be well Kit.

Just spoke to Kitkatz. She's not enjoying her hospital stay, as you can imagine, being poked and prodded this way and that. The groin catheter was removed after the surgery for her graft as they wanted to remove all objects that may have been exposed to the MRSA in her blood. She has not had dialysis for a few days and they are not giving her IV fluids. It looks like they will try to insert a new catheter for dialysis tomorrow and hopefully she'll feel better after getting some D. She does not know how she contracted the bug but has notified her dialysis unit that she contracted MRSA, although she doesn't know what action they may take.

Talked to her for a little bit today and she needs her
to the nurses and CNA's. She needs to get out so she can feel better, or more thoughtful workers in that hosital.

She sounded good when I called. Frustrated, and cranky from the lack of sleep, but hanging in there.
