We have snow.  That's the upside.  Downside is we have rain along with it.  Hmm...how to feel about it all.  OK, I've decided, gonna embrace winter here.  It's white (but a bit slushy) outside.

Enjoy being home Janel.

This may sound like a negative, but it really isn't. One of my elementary students did not get picked up from school yesterday. There was a mis-communication between the mom and dad about who would be collecting him. When closing time rolled around (well actually a few minutes before) I called the dad, who I discovered was out of town. He called the mom and we agreed that we would take my student home with us so we could go ahead and get the machine ready for our treatment. He watched me get the saline syringes ready and how Carl primed the machine. About 6:00 PM he admitted that he was really hungry (he missed afternoon snack at school since he was waiting to be picked up at regular dismissal time). I fixed him a snack. His mom arrived just before time to stick the needles.

I'm sure he was thrilled to miss that!

But the positive is that this morning his mom told me that he got in the car last night and told her that he had a very pleasant visit! I love it.

And WTW, I think it never hurts for kids to see that people can cope with difficult circumstances while still maintaining considerable grace, dignity and yes indeed, pleasantness.  Great life lesson.

A little boy at my school who is severely developmentally delayed and responds to very little (not even mom's voice) laughed for the first time today!!!  He actually had the grin on his face and the vocalized giggle when he was tickled or some of the children spoke to him!!  He screwed up his face when I kissed him on the forehead!!  Guess he didn't like that!!  he spends a lot of time in my classroom and the other children were so excited to see him laugh!! It made everybody's day!!!

I have pretty much finished the dress I'm making for Molly for her Mexican themed party on the weekend.  It's actually a Spanish style, but she said no one would know, and besides she liked it! Will post photos when it's finished - Molly is really surprised at how good it looks, which doesn't say much for her faith in her mother's sewing abilities!!

One of Beth's good friends keeps telling her that he really wants to give me his kidney.  He is a super guy.    I am still amazed when anyone makes that kind of offer.  So that is my positive - there are wonderful people out there who do care.   :cuddle;

Yes, Paris, there are. The world is full of wonderful folks.

I would love to see that dress. I made my daughter's wedding dress at her request.  :2thumbsup;

It was not elaborate. Her husband wanted one with a hundred buttons up the back. I told him that he could make it!  :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;

I got to work form home today because we had 18 inches of snow last night and 3 more today and I was snowed in. And I got to go to dialysis early so I didn't have to be out late.

I've been home since Tuesday night.  My own bed was fabulous!  I've been snowed in ever since with a storm that started late Tuesday and hasn't stopped since.  Hopefully, tomorrow I get to go grocery shopping for more food, since I've about cleaned out what's left in the freezer.  Doc cleared me for a regular diet, though, so I can eat anything I want as soon as I can get to the store to buy it!  They took out my picc line, so I don't have to mess with flushing that anymore.  The only thing I have left to deal with is the wound from my infected incision.  I got the doc in Ann Arbor to agree to my seeing a plastic surgeon at the local hospital about closing it up, so I don't have to make the 4 and a half hour drive back to Ann Arbor for the consultations and surgery.  My next trip back down isn't until April, as long as I get regular appointments with my docs here in Northern Michigan.  Woooohoooo - no more long drives in the snow!

My cat is thrilled to see me.  She spent the last couple of months eating and sleeping and nothing else.  She got FAT!

I love to read all these positives!

Janel, it would be AWFUL for you to have to go without eating (from the snow) now that you are cleared to eat whatever you want! Get those snow plows out!

Jean, now that you shared that you found an extra $200, anything else you want to share? Hmmmm?

 :clap; :clap;

Bub, I'm sure it was tears of sadness that you are leaving. (or maybe jealousy?)

jbeany,  wish I could run to the store for you!  I am so glad you are home. It has been a long road. It makes us all realize that this is not a routine surgery.  You are amazing and an inspiration to all of us.  There isn't a better daily positive than having you home   :grouphug;

My nephew and niece are spending Christmas here this year and as I prepare things to surprise and spoil them with I can't help but think about how very very lucky they are to have all the opportunities that they do.  They are also very giving kids who appreciate the value of money and who are responsible about trying not to be wasteful.

One of the presents they are  getting this year is a card telling them that they have each forfeited a sum of money from their gift budget to feed 10 homeless or otherwise disadvantaged people on Christmas Day.  We will make a point during our own lavish Christmas dinner of acknowledging that having so much when others have so little is a fundamental injustice in the world.

Thanks you Gail and children.  That's a really, really good thing to do.  I don't have too much money left but I will give as much time as they need me on Christmas day to serve or clean up.  I don't do it so much for them, I really have a good time down there.
