I didn't get to see it.  Am trying to find the rerun.  I was born in 1959, in the segregated South.  i remember the white and colored fountains, bathrooms, etc.  I remember my Mom, YELLING at me for drinking from a colored fountain when I was small.  Got to find that speech!!!

I remember going to Miami as a kid and seeing water fountains that were restricted to "whites".

I worked for 20 years in a building that had once housed public exhibits at a state fisheries lab.  It had two pairs of restrooms right next to each other on the first floor.  One in each set was big and one was small.  The building is from the late 1940s.  It took me a bit, but I finally figured it out -- the big restrooms were for whites, the little ones were for blacks.  One of the old-timers confirmed that for me.  I don't know when they took the signs down, but it was before I arrived there in the mid-70s. 

There's still plenty of segregation here in Virginia, but I do think the younger generations are becoming more color blind.  My son has lamented the fact that his college is not as diverse as he hoped it would be.

I wasn't scheduled to work that day, so that meant I was free to watch it.  However, I don't have cable.  The spring semester at the  Community College where I teach French starts Wednesday.  I decided to go there and spend the day preparing.  The room I use is very high tech and has a smartboard so I could watch CNN live on a large screen. But that was not totally satisfying since the streaming would stop and start.  While I was there, a friend came and said he was going over to the large auditorium to watch it;  they had CNN on the BIG screen.  It was as if i was in a cinema.  i went down near the front and in the middle.  It was crystal clear with great definition.
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!  And i was glad to share it with a room full of African-Caribbean people.  We had a quite benign form of apartheid in the Caribbean.  We blacks just 'knew our place'.

I was born in 1950.  I went to a school my parents could not have gone to.   My school, until about the 30's, was for the daughters of the planter class and other whites with money. My dad would have rejoiced in this day.  For although he had no secondary education, he became the principal of a secondary school  Whenever I see Obama, I see Martin Luther King saying "I have a dream!"; I see Mandela striding gracefully out of prison, with dignity and bearing, totally undefeated in spirit.  Did I cry?  Embarrassingly, yes!

I watched bits of it.  I was in and out all day.  But its was really cool talking to my dad and grandmother about it.  My grandmother was born in 1931 and my dad 53 so it was really cool to have them talk about what they lived through.

Why we will pay.

The Schip is about to pass.  This is how it will be funded 
The schip is to give insurance to 11 million children.  With families making under $65,000 a year.

This program will be funded by Smokers. Taxs will go up.  Which in reality will make people stop smoking right?
To top of this wonderful program funded by a few not the masses it is said that.
to fund this program we will need an additional 22 MILLION SMOKERS.
So will the goverment now say smoking isnt all that bad??

As for blaming who on what???
Obama is the man of change.  I hope he never blames Bush or looks back on him for the past.  We are looking forward and bringing change.  Lets not look at the past and point fingers.  It is a new show.

I think the point is more about celebrating where our country is and how far we have actually come.   Time will tell as with every administration.  And then history will tell another story in 50 years. 

Regarding smoking:  live in NC!  No one is stopping smoking here. It is a huge cash crop and families depend on it for their livelyhood.  My dad died of lung cancer, but I don't think taxes would have made him stop smoking.  He had one lung removed and still kept smoking.   So tax booze and cigarettes all you want----it is a personal choice to buy them.


In the meantime, every President has my respect, whatever party.  They are human and will make wrong decisions.  But I support my Commander in Chief and am proud to wave our flag.

I cried when he talked about being the son of a man who could have been refused service in a restaurant at one time.  I remember going to Miami as a kid and seeing water fountains that were restricted to "whites".  I couldn't believe it and yet people who lived there would try to justify it with bizarre rationalizations.  I remember crying at that time because that rule would have applied to my nanny who slept in our room until I was 10, and went away to boarding school, and whom I adored.  Here we are not too long before we parted ways and I really missed her at school, maybe even more than my Mum since Nanny spent way more time with us overall.  She was amazing at "handling" me and I was not an "easy" kid but she always made me feel special.  The thought that anyone, anywhere, could consider her in any way less than any one else was completely beyond me and that visit to Miami was a turning point in my life.  I was born in 1953.

Monrein, have you ever looked her up or her children.  You should include her in your life again.  That would be so exciting.

i  could'nt  understand  $150 million  +,  in  this  worldwide  economic  situation   most  countries  find

themselves  in.


what   i  did  notice.

1. the  president  is  a  good  talker,but  his  he  a  good  walker?
2. the   first  lady  looks  pretty  snazzy  in  almost  anything  she  wears
3.  i  think  the  president  needs  12  months  minimum,before   anything  starts  to  reverse  itself
