Dropping the Kids off at school. They were not impressed by the historicity of an African American man being sworn in as President of the US. I think that's progress.
I remember going to Miami as a kid and seeing water fountains that were restricted to "whites".
I was born in 1959, in the segregated South. i remember the white and colored fountains, bathrooms, etc. I remember my Mom, YELLING at me for drinking from a colored fountain when I was small. Got to find that speech!!!
When Obama became president, I was complaining about Obama becoming president. Once a conservative, always a conservative, I guess.Adam
I voted for the other guy I don't understand why they are making him a hero when he hasn't done anything yet....I didn't vote for him not because of his race don't care about that... don't like his politics nobody can give what he promised without someone paying... who do you think will pay? the rich NEVER pay they have money for lawyers it's the poor working middle class that pays..... I was wondering when the other shoe will hit the floor when he won.... Melinoir
Are you one of those who is going to blame the current administration for the past 8 years? Did you care when Bush was driving the country down the tubes? Please give me a break!
I cried when he talked about being the son of a man who could have been refused service in a restaurant at one time. I remember going to Miami as a kid and seeing water fountains that were restricted to "whites". I couldn't believe it and yet people who lived there would try to justify it with bizarre rationalizations. I remember crying at that time because that rule would have applied to my nanny who slept in our room until I was 10, and went away to boarding school, and whom I adored. Here we are not too long before we parted ways and I really missed her at school, maybe even more than my Mum since Nanny spent way more time with us overall. She was amazing at "handling" me and I was not an "easy" kid but she always made me feel special. The thought that anyone, anywhere, could consider her in any way less than any one else was completely beyond me and that visit to Miami was a turning point in my life. I was born in 1953.
