Aww poor Midgy needs glasses.  Is he near or far sighted?  Have you considered contacts?   He likes the beach but does he like the water?  Lots of dogs (oops you said he's really human) like running into the surf to play fetch.  Does Midgy do that?

I am trying to talk my dad into letting my buy my kids a puppy. (I'm 99% sure it won't happen since he's been against having a pet for the last 8 yrs)  But I am trying anyways.

I want to get a Boston Terrier, they melt my heart there so adorable. Just wondered for anyone who knows about these type of dogs, could they offer some positives I can throw at my dad to help change his mind?

Thanks

Well Bostons are sweet and adorable, what else does he need to know?  ;D

HOWEVER, they ARE a terrier, and they DO have bulldog history which makes them downright stubborn. NOT untrainable by any means, but don't expect them to behave like a border collie or golden retriever when it comes to obedience.

Having said that, have never owned one so can't give too much in-depth advice.

Here's a double-pic of my old bull terrier X pit bull, Diesel - he was put to sleep in January 2006 at the age of (almost) 18 years. On the left, he was young (about 5 years old) and the one on the right was taken the day before he died. It might look like he is smiling, but he is actually panting with pain and misery and was doing very, very badly.

Yeah, he just kept growing -- he's a standard poodle, but it's not his fault, he was born that way. ;) He's very smart and calm and not at all like the yappy, high strung fifi stereotype. And speaking of breeds with bad reputations, there sure are some good looking pit bulls on this board. I hear they can be very gentle and fun-loving, not at all like the scary-dog rep they get.

Oswald--Your dogs are gorgeous! I love Pits! When I worked at the vets, they were one of the sweetest breeds of dogs we saw. And they are so much fun to play with! We have a pit/lab mix now named Zoe. She's my baby!

1. Zoe now
2. Zoe as a baby, playing with our other dog, Boomer - I love this picture!
3. Zoe when she was younger dressed as a skunk for Halloween.  ;D

I've always seen poodles as intelligent, particularly when I was involved in dog obedience, all the poodles there were anything BUT "fifi" types.

And speaking of breeds with bad reputations, there sure are some good looking pit bulls on this board. I hear they can be very gentle and fun-loving, not at all like the scary-dog rep they get.

They are very loving. Often they don't like other dogs, depending on their early socialisation, but they should always love people (and always have, since the very inception of the breed). If they don't love people, something is seriously wrong. Same goes for all bull breeds.

It's a shame that there's some real questionable "types" of people out there who see fit to own these dogs, and turn them into all kinds of un-nameable monsters. Sadly, that's happened to many breeds over the years, not just pits and other bull breeds. Makes me see red.
 :rant;

P.S. paddbear - LOVE "skunk Zoe"  :clap;

That Zoe is adorable -- what a bold puppy! And the skunk costume is priceless. If I had a black dog I'd totally be stealing it for next Halloween. Where did you get it -- did you make it yourself?

I made it. I had seen it in a pet catalog (Drs. Foster & Smith, I think) and realized it would be cheaper to make it. Unfortunately, you can't see the cute little pointy ears!

Speaking of Pits, I found this very sad cartoon in Sunday's paper--

very sad.  i can't stand when people refer to pit bulls as killer dogs.  there are more reported bites by other dogs then pitbulls and yet nobody knows that.
