best of luck ang.
-
I will be teaching 6th and 7th graders. However I am going to hope the computer will put CNN.com up for live coverage so we can all watch the inauguration. What a non written lesson plan.
-
Ang, I hope everything goes fine and you're back posting soon. Take it easy - here's hoping for a speedy recovery! :cuddle;
-
I'll be busy tomorrow when he "becomes President". But when he "won the election" I was getting my kidney! :cheer:
-
I will be watching. Our district is requiring every teacher to have the inauguration on in their classrooms.
-
Wokking. Hopefully, we will have the TV's on to the event. We are having a "red,white and blue" lunch at the clinic.
-
I don't think I will be getting up at 2.30 am to watch it live
But I will watch a replay - it is history being made
All the best Ang
to a speedy recovery
-
I watched a fair bit today of the preparations and the mounting excitement. I will definitely be watching tomorrow's events with interest and particularly look forward to The Speech. Did anyone see Oprah's show today? Will-I-Am, Faith Hill, Bono, Seal were all singing a new song by David Foster. Very nice.
-

We do not have a TV or cable in my classroom. Sigh
-
The song was great. What talents they are!
-
I'll be watching. Hope I feel better than I did today. I slept away most of the day.
Godspeed Ang.
Love, Mimi

It is a non-dialysis day, I am home watching Obama on the big screen...
Very emotional :cuddle;
-
Terrific speech President Obama. Confident, inspirational, forward-looking, gracious, inclusive and moving. Man, I've got to get going and I'm glued to the television screen. OK, I'm really getting going this time.
-
I was trying to not cry, but then I cried! Definitely tears of joy during a very moving occasion...

I was born in 1955. I feel like we are leaving a dark and troubled time behind and emerging into a bright new world...
...and I just can't stop smiling!!!
:clap;
-
Ang are you feeling okay today?
I watched the inauguration on a 3*5 piece of a computer screen via C-Span. In between giving kids Language Arts to work on. Hehehe. I heard most of the speech except when the computer speed was not up to snuff.

I cried when he talked about being the son of a man who could have been refused service in a restaurant at one time. I remember going to Miami as a kid and seeing water fountains that were restricted to "whites". I couldn't believe it and yet people who lived there would try to justify it with bizarre rationalizations. I remember crying at that time because that rule would have applied to my nanny who slept in our room until I was 10, and went away to boarding school, and whom I adored. Here we are not too long before we parted ways and I really missed her at school, maybe even more than my Mum since Nanny spent way more time with us overall. She was amazing at "handling" me and I was not an "easy" kid but she always made me feel special. The thought that anyone, anywhere, could consider her in any way less than any one else was completely beyond me and that visit to Miami was a turning point in my life. I was born in 1953.
-
It is absolutely astounding how the world has changed since 1962. I was born that year. We have seen much.
It makes me stop and think, but for the grace of God!
-
I didn't get to see it. Am trying to find the rerun. I was born in 1959, in the segregated South. i remember the white and colored fountains, bathrooms, etc. I remember my Mom, YELLING at me for drinking from a colored fountain when I was small. Got to find that speech!!!
-

-
Obama the president on the same day you give up a kidney
I'd say that is historical
I prayed for you last night and am so glad you are doing fine
you had me worried
-
oh, for the rest of the thread
I was eating shrimp nachos at Rico's
wanted a beer but had a tea

Dropping the Kids off at school. They were not impressed by the historicity of an African American man being sworn in as President of the US. I think that's progress.
-
I got up at 2.00am to watch. It was brilliant. History being made!

I think that is progress, Wallyz. :thumbup; Now if we can just get the "older" generations on board. (I am the older generation)
-
I slept thru it, but I do not like watching anything political on tv though.

I worked for 20 years in a building that had once housed public exhibits at a state fisheries lab. It had two pairs of restrooms right next to each other on the first floor. One in each set was big and one was small. The building is from the late 1940s. It took me a bit, but I finally figured it out -- the big restrooms were for whites, the little ones were for blacks. One of the old-timers confirmed that for me. I don't know when they took the signs down, but it was before I arrived there in the mid-70s.
There's still plenty of segregation here in Virginia, but I do think the younger generations are becoming more color blind. My son has lamented the fact that his college is not as diverse as he hoped it would be.
-
I wasn't scheduled to work that day, so that meant I was free to watch it. However, I don't have cable. The spring semester at the Community College where I teach French starts Wednesday. I decided to go there and spend the day preparing. The room I use is very high tech and has a smartboard so I could watch CNN live on a large screen. But that was not totally satisfying since the streaming would stop and start. While I was there, a friend came and said he was going over to the large auditorium to watch it; they had CNN on the BIG screen. It was as if i was in a cinema. i went down near the front and in the middle. It was crystal clear with great definition.
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! And i was glad to share it with a room full of African-Caribbean people. We had a quite benign form of apartheid in the Caribbean. We blacks just 'knew our place'.
I was born in 1950. I went to a school my parents could not have gone to. My school, until about the 30's, was for the daughters of the planter class and other whites with money. My dad would have rejoiced in this day. For although he had no secondary education, he became the principal of a secondary school Whenever I see Obama, I see Martin Luther King saying "I have a dream!"; I see Mandela striding gracefully out of prison, with dignity and bearing, totally undefeated in spirit. Did I cry? Embarrassingly, yes!
-
When Obama became president, I was complaining about Obama becoming president. Once a conservative, always a conservative, I guess.

I watched bits of it. I was in and out all day. But its was really cool talking to my dad and grandmother about it. My grandmother was born in 1931 and my dad 53 so it was really cool to have them talk about what they lived through.
-
mostly sleeping :rofl; i was at dialysis and found myself drifting in and out. i can blame it on the chairs the albany, oregon clinic has. the have HEATERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Trying to ignore all the hype. Time will tell. I hope he does a good job because this would be one time I would appreciate being wrong. ::)
-
I totally agree with Sluff..... watching and listening and waiting, time will tell :twocents;

Are you one of those who is going to blame the current administration for the past 8 years? Did you care when Bush was driving the country down the tubes? Please give me a break!
-
Why we will pay.
The Schip is about to pass. This is how it will be funded :urcrazy;
The schip is to give insurance to 11 million children. With families making under $65,000 a year.
This program will be funded by Smokers. Taxs will go up. Which in reality will make people stop smoking right?
To top of this wonderful program funded by a few not the masses it is said that.
to fund this program we will need an additional 22 MILLION SMOKERS.
So will the goverment now say smoking isnt all that bad??
As for blaming who on what???
Obama is the man of change. I hope he never blames Bush or looks back on him for the past. We are looking forward and bringing change. Lets not look at the past and point fingers. It is a new show.
Right?? :waiting;
-
I think the point is more about celebrating where our country is and how far we have actually come. Time will tell as with every administration. And then history will tell another story in 50 years.
Regarding smoking: live in NC! No one is stopping smoking here. It is a huge cash crop and families depend on it for their livelyhood. My dad died of lung cancer, but I don't think taxes would have made him stop smoking. He had one lung removed and still kept smoking. So tax booze and cigarettes all you want----it is a personal choice to buy them.
In the meantime, every President has my respect, whatever party. They are human and will make wrong decisions. But I support my Commander in Chief and am proud to wave our flag. :usaflag;
-

Except the fact that Bush never did that. Instead of propaganda you should deal with facts.
As to SCHIP I am betting Obama will give illegals access to it.

Monrein, have you ever looked her up or her children. You should include her in your life again. That would be so exciting. :cuddle;

It was me, my dust bunnies and the tv on Tuesday and I enjoyed the whole day.
-
many thanks for your kind words,my ihd family.i'm a bit sore and sorry nothing that rest and
plenty of meds will help resoleve.
i had direct telecast in to the ICU from 11pm 1/20 for a non stop 11 hours or so.
i could'nt understand $150 million +, in this worldwide economic situation most countries find
themselves in.
what i did notice.
1. the president is a good talker,but his he a good walker?
2. the first lady looks pretty snazzy in almost anything she wears
3. i think the president needs 12 months minimum,before anything starts to reverse itself
glad to be back home with both of my families
-
Glad to hear you're doing ok mate

I was stocking up on ammunition and purchasing a new gun on Inauguration Day.
When the economy hits bottom and some of our less trustworthy citizens start stealing to survive, I want to be prepared to get the word out that I'm not to be trifled with.
Obama plans to put a curb on our 2nd Amendment rights before the end of the year. This is why there are ammunition and gun shortages across the country.

thats the most i have smiled in a while...(because I agree with you!!)

I was working when Obama became President but I set my DVR so I could watch the events when I got home. For me, this was a historic day. Very emotional. My children are black and I have witnessed racism and have felt powerless for them in many ways. Obama becoming President gives me hope for our future. I am glad that my black son will be able to look at the President of the United States and say, "I can do anything I want." People like Obama pave the way for many other minorities and it gives them hope. For that I am glad. So for me and my kids, it was a good, good day! :2thumbsup;
-
My sentiments exactly Sluff. I dont care what color the man is, and the colors he is showing now are scary.
-
Crying...and I am still crying. He is the worst President EVER!
-
I agree with you hotnspicy. I so wanted him to be successful, but he has proven to be the worst ever. The man is eloquent, but he speaks with a forked tongue and is going to drag this glorius nation down the tubes.
-
While I do not like much of Obamas views and policies he is far from the worst President this nation has had in its history.
-

This nation was being pulled towards the crapper at least a century before Obama was even a dirty thought in his parents' mind.
