I like the Israeli system the article mentions - higher priority on the list if you are a donor.   The US has this as well, but only if you have already donated.

With PKD, we're not able to donate anything at all.  I tried to donate bone marrow years ago but was rejected.

If I could have donated anything, I'd have been first in line.

I like the Israeli system the article mentions ...

... An acquaintance of mine told me that there are serious problems with kidney donations because of religious reasons ... ?

I was referring to the Israeli practice in which listing oneself as a donor is of benefit to you in the allocation process if you ever need an organ.

It is unfortunate that people in the US who are adamantly against donation get treated identically on the waiting list than those of us who have listed ourselves as organ donors ever since becoming of legal age.    And doubly offensive that non-citizens get treated identically on the waitlist.

In Japan religious belief a serious problem with donation.  I don’t know if it’s on the Buddhist or Shinto belief.  I think the one Hospital I was looking at in either Tokyo or Kyoto did under 15 transplants in a year.
