Every calorie burned helps, twirl!  Some days I don't do much more than 15 minutes either, but it adds up.

 :thumbup; You've done great JB!

Apparently, my weight loss has hit a wall.  I've lost nothing at all this month - nary a pound.  So I decided to amp up my exercise.  I've got a mile square to run around on the roads here.  The back block is actually a dirt road with no houses.  So today I walked briskly the first leg of the square, and when I got to the back road with no witnesses, I tried jogging. ( If I'm going to make a fool of myself, I'd prefer to do it without an audience!)  I managed half the block before I had to drop back to a walk.  I was a bit slow walking the rest of the way home, but eventually caught my breath back and sped up again.  Tomorrow's goal - 3/4 of the block.  When I get to the point where I can run without wheezing like a steam engine, I might even try it in front of the neighbors.

On the plus side, I did work up a really good sweat - more water for me!  :bandance;

Hey Kim,  I just stumbled on this.  Great idea for a thread.  I belong to a gym and I try to go a minimum of 3 days a week but I go every day I can.  I have a nice group of friends there and we always sit afterwards and socialize a bit.  I just had my access done on Monday so I'm off weights but I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes today at 3.5 pace.  Yesterday I felt really nauseous after only 10 minutes so I was pretty happy about today.
Keep it up everyone.  I always say I'm in training for a transplant.

Well, I didn't manage 3/4 of the block - but I did manage to get out there and do it again!  Maybe I'll stick with half a block of jogging for the first little bit.  Wow, am I sore!  My shins are not happy with me, but I'm ignoring them!

We are going for a walk today around the block. What a thrill!

My daughter and I are now on a routine -  we drive to the athletic track in town 5 mornings a week.  I just walk about 4 times around the track- she walks, jogs, racewalks, and does exercises.  The companies over here have this big yearly sporting challenge, and she has been asked to do the swimming leg of a triathalon (600 metres swim).  she has not swum competitively for many years, so this morning we went for a session at a beach.  Now our morning exercise schedule will be TTS - beach, MF athletic track, W-she has a class with a swimming pro.

Nope, instead we walked around Costco and bought things.

Around the block would have been cheaper, kit - but pushing a cart around a superstore counts as exercise!

I can jog 3/4 of the block now, so I'm making a bit of progress.  I had to stop going every day, though.  I was over tiring myself to the point that I was ending up puking too often again.  (The gastroparesis kicks in when I overdo the exercise.)  So I'm alternating now - jogging/walking one day, and 30 minutes on my ski machine at a moderate pace the next.  the weight doesn't seem to be budging - but I feel good, so I'm still trying.

This weekend, I skipped my regular jog/walk session and went on a nature hike instead. One of the local historic sites added an adventure park, and I took my friend's 12 yr old daughter with me so we could climb the treetop canopy bridge and fly down the zip line.  It was their opening weekend, so it was only 50 cents to get in the park, and another 5 dollars to do the adventure tour.  It was wonderful!  The canopy bridge was an amazing sight - 40 feet over a creek on a bridge of steel cable, rope and 2x12's to walk on.  It looked like something out of an Indiana Jones movie.  Then we hiked around to the zip line platform.  I volunteered to go first in my group - no one else wanted to!  Love the part where the trail guide says "Okay, now walk off the edge of the platform," and we're 30 feet in the air.   ;D  One quick step and then I'm zipping down the line across the lake, and it felt just like flying!

Good for you! That looks like lots of fun JB!  :waving;

Here are some tips I just got in an email:

The Importance of Walking

1. Walking adds years to your life. If you are 50 and you walk, you feel like 60.

2. It is well documented that for every mile you walk, you add one minute to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $5000 per month.

3. My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 now and we don't know where the hell she is.

4. The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

5. I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to show up.

6. I have to walk early in the morning before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

7. I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

8. I have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.

9. The advantage of walking every day is that you die healthier.

10. If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

And last but not least:

11. Don't jog; it makes the ice jump right out of your glass.

This is my third week back at the gym after a years' hiatus.  I used to use all the machines, but now with the PD catheter I'm afraid to strain those abs so I just walk on the treadmill.  I've slowly worked my way up to 3 miles (I started at about 2.25 and worked my way up over the last 3 weeks) and today I did 3.15.  I do the hill setting and just work it out.  I can't believe how much better I feel.  Now...onward to my next goal: 4 miles!!!  :bandance;

I am starting PD next week, and I was wondering what I could do for exercise...

Yoo hoo - anyone on PD gonna answer this?  I'm on hemo, with a nerve damaged arm, so I can do lots with the lower half of my body - not sure what limitations there are on PD.  I'm not picturing doing crunches with a belly full of fluid, though. . . .

I've been playing with the nearly new treadmill that my sister gave me.  It has a "weight loss" program that will kick your butt!  Automatic changes in incline and speed until you are a sweaty little puddle at the end of the roller.  Whew!  Although with the nasty cold I've got right now, I thought I was doing well with a nice slow 2 mph walk for a while.

I was told there is no limit except how much you lift if your lifting weight. Do all the cardio you want and low impact weights.

My nutritionist said "No one ever got fat eating fruits, vegetables and chicken."
The walking really helped me too, and the fruit and protein makes me feel full most of the time.

I participated in a study by Avon and Curves. I just completed a month and decided to join. I did 18 workouts in a month. The study asked for participants to exercise at least 3 times a week. I only lost a pound and a half, but I lost a total of 5.25 inches. I do feel stronger. When I was exercising in my basement I did not get results like this. I enjoy the time to myself. My Ritalin usage has gone way down.  :2thumbsup;
I am curious to see my labs this month. My cholesterol was good before I started, but my triglycerides were up. I want to see if that number came down at all. I know my anti rejection drugs have something to do with triglyceride levels.

Walked in the arroyo for 90 minutes (it's a dirt path, easier on the joints) and it's heating up outside, so glad I got it done early.

I rode my bike to the gas station yesterday... I finally found something I can do without hurting my ankles (like with walking.) however, I realized how out of shape I was because so many of the times on the way there (uphill) I wanted to just quit but I didn't and I pulled through.

How long do I have to do this before I start to build stamina again? I hate feeling so out of breath and can barely move my legs riding!
