** I don't know if this should be posted in Off topic or Dialysis:General but if this is in the wrong place, please move to where ever cuz I just can't figure it out :P **

Anyway, Since yesterday I have been getting heart pain.

All I did was eat something. You see, I had to get up real early for the Cable Net Tech as my net has been dropping like crazy a lot lately (as some of you had noticed in the chatroom when I kept leaving and coming back). It was an 8am call as the only other option was when I would be at work. I forgot about the appointment though and was up late so I didn't get really any sleep. Then my dad came over when the net guy was done at 11:30am and my dad started hinting at wanting me to look at and fix his printer  ::) (only time he seems to come around). I told him I need rest and he kept on about it so I said fine I will if you get me something to eat (not like he pays me for fixing computer crap for him). Well we then go downstairs to his girlfriend's apartment and she makes me food. Only thing she had was grilled cheese so I took my binders.

Thinking back I am really curious what my Potassium is but then why did the same thing happen today after dialysis?

After eating I started feeling "off". I couldn't put my finger on it but my back hurt, my middle body felt "odd" and my chest felt constricted.

But it went away in only a few minutes (like maybe even just 2 or 3 min). Today at dialysis I was fine but then when I was done and stood up and took my standing BP and then took the cuff off, and got my weight and came back. Then my heart started hurting again. If it is Potassium wouldn't my level of that be okay after a dialysis run? I usually have no trouble with Potassium and I haven't had any fries or anything lately.

Today at dialysis my pulse was high but it is usually high after dialsyis. 132 today. The nurse made me sit til it got lower. When it was at 121 she said I could go as long as I rested at home.

My Nephrologist is going to India so I won't see him for the month of December after blood work like usual. He came today (blood work is next week) but said if there are any problems with any results that one of the other Neph's will come by in 2 weeks even though they had said they couldn't cover.

I am slightly worried at having chest pains at the age of 33. Don't know what could cause it.

Didn't post this in any dialysis section as my pain started on a NON-dialysis day so it might not be related.

Do you have a general practitioner you can see?  I don't think I'd want to wait that long for the neph - not for possible heart problems.  Mine just gave me a long explanation of what the fluid build-up can do to a kidney patient's heart.  He told me all about listening for the "rub" sound, and what he was listening for with the stethoscope.   Besides, the bloodwork they do won't really tell them if you have heart trouble - they test different things for that.  I know there are lots of reasons for having chest pain, including some as common as indigestion, but better safe than sorry. Otherwise, you're going to worry until you do get to see the doc, and the last thing you need is another reason to stress.

Hang in there!

See if you can go to a cardiologist heart specialist.  Or just get an EKG or Ecocardogram done (ultrasound of the heart) that will tell them if something is wrong.

Remember my posts of my heart skiping a beat.  Well everything come out normal.  But, I made the contact so if it happens again there is a base line and I'm to go right in and get another EKG.

It could just be indigestion.  But it won't hurt to get it looked at.

Ya that is what I was thinking as I have had many before and no troubles but something may have changed!

Thankx!  :2thumbsup;

 ::) Let me make it REAL EASY for you "Angie", if your post has the WORD "dialysis" in it or talks about complications of dialysis. Then of course it does NOT belong in OFF-Topic. Off-topic is OFF-TOPIC, NO TALKING OF DIALYSIS AT ALL, Off-topic is a place for us to go to NOT even think about dialysis.  I want NOTHING related to dialysis posted in Off-topic. AS the name implies. No videos, not even dialysis humor (which has it's own section). If you wanted you could have even posted in: http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?board=11.0 which is "Other Severe Medical Conditions" which would have been acceptable. But since Rerun moved it to "General Discussion" that is fine as well.

I agree with all the posts above - go to the ER and get an EKG.  It could be something as simple as indigestion, or a number of things.  It could also be stress from not getting sleep too.  Are you by any chance UNDER your target weight? You could also be alittle dehydrated. But the EKG is your first line of action.  It could even be alittle heart pain from missing your fiance!  Tee-hee-hee.

It is possible it could be something like a stomach or gullet condition. I have had quite a few problems in that region and it does give similar symptoms to heart stuff but you can't ignore it either way. I got a leaflet yesterday about heartburn etc and it said it can't be ignored in case it is heart related as the symptoms are so similar. Get checked out Angie then you can get the right treatment. Take care and hope it is something small and easily treatable. :grouphug;

Chest pains aren't something to fool with.  If you have them you go to the ER immediately.  It could be nothing but then again it could be a heart attack in progress.  Having it checked out is far better than checking out.

I would have to agree completely.  Don't fool around when it comes to abnormal pains that concern you.

I would be willing to bet you that your chest pain and back pain are a direct result of you not getting enough rest.  If you're not getting the proper sleep and rest periods, you're depleting your energy resources more than they already are depleted.  If you felt chest pains after dialysis I would also bet that it's not your potassium because potassium is leached in dialysis - phosphorus is not.  I know this because when I feel like having an orange I do it just before I dialyse.

To be safe, I would mention it to the doc - we all know that dialysis is not really kind to the heart.

Some days when I leave dialysis it feels like my heart has a piano sitting on top of it and just walking to the scale is like a marathon.  Then going from the unit to the parking lot - well, a couple of rests along the way and I finally get to the car.

Angie, you have been on dialysis a long time, like me. In fact much longer than me so, I recommend that you insist on an "Echo". Believe me you do not want to get to be in A-Fib like me. Plus you worrying about it just makes it worse, believe me. Do yourself a favor and insist on an "echo" it's a 10 minute pain free test.  :thumbup;

Being chronically ill sucks, however who knows their body better than someone who has been through a lot medically? Listen to your body it doesn't lie.

I have had a few echoe's done and 3 stress tests, and they found nothing except my heart is slightly enlarged, and I feel like they look at me funny like I'm a hypochondriac or something, so now I have been having chest pains too and that heavy feeling across my chest but not really where your heart is located. I think it could just be a muscle do to the fact I usually hurt all over anyway.If your not sure Angie get it checked. No one can take better care of you but yourself.  Good Luck let us know how it goes.

Good advice!  :thumbup; I hope to see the Nephrologist next week so I will ask for one to be done. It seems like I have to tell them what to do instead of the other way around anyways ;)

Plus could this be why I have been feeling so grouchy lately? It's not fun feeling like crap as we all know :P

Thanks for understanding and being there for me everybody!!  :grouphug;

You are right. My Potassium is fine! So it is not that. But yes I have been having the hardest time sleeping! Only sleeping 3 hrs at a time every night for a month now is getting annoying :( The RLS pills aren't helping with my sleep like they said they would but that is for another thread ;)
