Ok, so I *KNOW* what I am supposed to eat and not eat... I have a million posters and list's up the ying yang with high potassium and phosphorus foods.. and from my point of view.. theres not much I can eat. (As far as what i like and allowed to have..) So I try to eat whatever I want, (with obvious limits such as no milk and limit dairy and such..) take my binders like candy and limit portions..to very small. Obviously this aint working too well as my phosphorus still is high. What do you guys eat for snacks that are yummy??

Joe likes the small cans of pears.  I think those aren't too terrible on potassium.  Apples are good too.

I *love* jello... I did read the ingredients and I see phosphorus in there.. so I figured I couldnt have alot of it... I eat sugar-free jell-o... and if I knew I could have a lot of it, I would eat it a lot more, I like it and its no calories, perfect.. with some cool-whip... lol... So, how much phosphorus is in it since its in the ingredients?

Yes  am on dialysis for about 5 months now...although it feels like an eternity. I do home hemo, 5 days a week, 4 hours. One of my main problems is that I feel very tired most of the time...because my hemoglobin is 90 or so. Using Aramesp to catch up.
Most of the time I'm not even hungry....

Gelatin desserts, KRAFT, JELL-O Brand Sugar Free Low Calorie Gelatin Snacks Strawberry, with aspartame and acesulfame potassium sweetener, ready-to-eat

Value per
100 grams

Phosphorus, P   mg 0
Potassium, K   mg 3

Remember, it counts as fluid.

Check this out for more information, but you must be precise.  Write gelatin, not Jello.  Have fun!

How is your phos so low? I have never heard of anyone on dialysis having normal or low phos levels to the point there told they can eat phos foods... thats great though! Did they say why your phos is low?

Thanks Zach. I did the search, and looks like the "ready to eat" is way lower in phosphorus, (i assume the ready to eat means the jell-o that comes in the individual containers already to eat)... the kind that u mix with water to make ur own shows me its like 5444/mg per 400 grams (i chose 400 grams b/c that equals about how many unces i eat a day)....and i assume 5444 mg is alot of phosphorus.. so i guess i should start buying the ready to eat individual pakcs instea of making it from the powder?

Im not worried about the fluid part, I can pretty much drink any amount since i'm on PD. Whew!

well, I don't know if I should be eating everything, but I am! We get lab work done every
two weeks and everything comes out alright(phosphorous,calcium,etc..)so maybe what I'm
asking is it alright to eat everything as long as your labs come out good? and by the way
I feel pretty good.

The labs say it all my friend,  consider yourself one of the "lucky" ones and enjoy all you can (as long as your labs are good)  just make sure you keep checking on them cuz they can change quickly.   :beer1;

I found unsalted pretzels in the grocery store.  They might be good when you need something crunchy.  I don't know how much potassium is in them, but produce sections usually have baby carrots or carrot "chips" ready to eat that would be good with some dip or by themselves.

I have bought them in Publix and Walmart, and I think Winn Dixie also.  You probably don't have Publix or Winn Dixie in California though, huh?

(edited to add) They are Snyder's of Hanover brand (pretty popular brand) and they are the "unsalted mini pretzels."

Here's the link:   http://www.snydersofhanover.com/en/products.php?cat=1&id=19

Looks like they also have the bigger pretzels in unsalted.   :thumbup;

Watch the eating of carrots. There is a lot of natural sugar in them and it can cause sugar rushes and binge eating.

Wow!  I thought the baby carrots were really healthy.  I've been eating them to satisfy my need for crunch.

It depends on how you react to the natural sugars in the baby carrots.  My family will start binge eating from eating baby carrots.  The sugar causes a reaction in the body to overeat.   Watch what you are eating after you eat the carrots.  Is it carbs you crave after you eat the carrots? Are you over eating after you eat the carrots?  My sister, kids and I all will binge eat after eating carrots.
