The past few days I have been having some dizzy spells, so last night I took my bp and it was 99/44. That's a little bit scary, so I called my primary today and he advised me to stop one of my bp meds until Monday when I can get in and see him. I really feel crappy and also having problems sleeping. To make life complete my car has to have a new battery, and my husband got a ticket for making and illegal u-turn. $212.00. To top it all off, I am feeling extremely anti-social, not like me at all. Any one been thru this bp up and down? Seeing my neph on Tuesday, glad of that.

I go through the BP roller coaster ride.  Last night it was 98/67.  I take my blood pressure at least 3 times a day with my home monitor.  I take it before my scheduled meds and notate it in an excel spreadsheet.  I then bring the spreadsheet with me to dialysis on Mondays when I know my Neph will be there to review it.  He has changed my meds a couple of times based on this info.  It was getting much better until last night which was out of line with what is has been lately.

I have been experiencing low blood pressure as well.  Do any of you know what some causes could be?  I am off all my bp meds for a couple of months now.  I always thought kidney patients dealt with high blood pressure.

You know dialysis has taken over your life when you use Excel to track your blood pressure!   :rofl;
I love it!  I have an Excel spreadsheet for my surgeries and medications.   :cuddle;

Too much fluid off can make BP drop. When i was on PD mine would drop occasionally but an easy way to raise it is ............have a drink !  :yahoo; A slight increase in your fluid intake usually raises your bp !

I use Excel to track my Zemplar, PTH, etc.
I also use www.nutritiondata.com to look up the nutritive content of foods,
and I use a kitchen scale to weigh all portions of food.

Might as well put my Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder to good use.

The scientist in me says - there's nothing like a good data set!

Jean - I hope you get the bp leveled off soon.

I have major problems with low blood pressure.  I had problems before I got sick even.  My doctor gave me Medodrine or something like that to use when it goes low.  I am also on Predisone for it.  I hate them both.  I see a nurse practioner every week.  She is very good.  Anyway she promised she and the Doctor would come on Monday and we could talk about trying some other stuff.

Getting the heck out of town.

« Reply #10 on: August 22, 2009, 04:27:22 PM »

Ok Jean, how are you feeling today.  I do think you've been having too much fun in that chat room drinking all that beer with Zach.

I start low bp (vs high) when the doctor realized I had too much fluid weight (a few months before dialysis or maybe a year).  I too a lasix according to his directions and the blood pressure dropped to noamrl.  I'd been on dialysis only a week or so when very lows started and immediately he had me stop all bp med (about 4 different kinds).  Mostly now it is ok except when (as others have stated)i become too dehydrated either from the machine or self inflicted.

Watch it closely.  I was told (i'm not a doctor now, but I'd love to play one on Tv if anybody knows any one casting) by my next door neighbor's mom (an M.D. Andeerson nurse) not to get too concerned as long as it was over 50 but worry about the 40s if they last  long.  Ask you doc ton Monday.

thanks all. Dan maybe you are right, too much beer in the chat room. I will be glad when this is regulated better. It does get rather annoying to get out of bed and fall into the walls on my way to the kitchen. BP today is 102/54, better. And tomorrow I will stop another one, because I ran out and we all know, if I refill that rx, it will be the one the Dr. wants to keep me off of. LOL

OK.  I'll switch the beer to Jack Daniels next time in the chat room.   :o

Why you say that?  You know you'll drink the Jack Daniels before you get there.....

Jean, I am totally empathetic.  Been going through the same kind of fun.  My low BP has taken me to the ER a few times.  Many times at dialysis they don't allow me to go home until I have some kind of presentable BP.  I have been as low as 77/43.  And I am hypertensive.  I haven't taken my medication for that for more than a year!  At the last monthly neph visit he raised my dry weight.  He also prescribed Midodrine (?), but none of our pharmacies had it.
In my many home moves, I have lost my BP monitor.  I recently ordered one from Dr.Leonards and am patiently waiting for it to come.
Along with the BP problems, I hit the back of someone's car.  $450 down the drain!  Laptop crashed - $180.
It never rains but it pours!!

Thanks for the empathetic ear Bajanne. It's nice to know this boat holds a lot of people.
Zach, I think I will switch to rum and coke.
