last nite we were planning on grilling, however yesterday it was only about 50 degrees with lots of rain. now i've been known to barbecue in the snow, however a torrential downpour, forget it. so april and i cheated, on our diet and on the budget, off to applebee's we went. we had broccoli cheese soup, spinach appetizer and i had RIBS!!! what a lovely relaxing way to end the day.

Applebee's?  Why didn't you get the 2 for one special with 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and dessert?  Don't you pay any attention to TV commercials?

We don't have an Applebee's near by, but we have taken advantage of the Chili's appetizers, 2 meals, and desert for $20. Plenty of food.

Anyway, tonight we are having meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans by order of the husband.

My son put a pork roast and a chicken in the smoker.  We had boiled okra, corn and parmesan pasta, and barbeque bread.  Then we had Italian Creme Cake for dessert.  I laid low on the pork and cake.  But it was
all ggggggood.

Chicken ( again) boiled noodles, and fresh carrots, which are so good. Dessert? Crunch and Munch, oooooh.

Ham, cabbage, and potatoes sound good. I LOVE cabbage, but usually boil it with sausage -sometimes venison sausage.

Paris, do you put everything in the same pot and boil? What spices do you add, if any?

that's exactly what we had. 2 dinners plus appetizer for $20. we ordered the soup extra, because it was raining and cold but didn't have to pay for us. the server took quite a while to get to us and gave it to us on the house. they have a new menu here in colorado which includes ribs.

DW, if I had the energy and money, I'd be making carnitas. Braise a pork butt in orange juice, lime juice, chile puree, and tequila until it's just barely falling apart, then pull it into chunks and fry the chunks in lard.  :2thumbsup;

And then eat that on double corn tortillas, topped with chopped white onion and cilantro, maybe some hot fresh salsa.
