I was wondering, what do any of you do with your days?  Do you work, go to school, stay at home, travel, shop at Costco's etc.. I'm not motivated.  I signed up for substitute teaching.  Is this a good idea?  My children are grown, my husband works late.  I find myself doing a lot of nothing, any suggestions?

Joe works, and we usually go out with his sister on Friday nights (play darts or billiards), 1 or 2 times a month he goes fishing.  Plus there is a trivia game at a wings restaurant that our family goes to every now and then.

Have you considered volunteering somewhere?  Catholic Charities might be a good one to check out.  They help people in all sorts of situations.  Or try the library, your church, humane society, local Diabetes Association office, Kidney office, etc.

Be prepared for some real challenges as a substitute teacher. It is usually really hard to walk into someone elses classroom and run things when the kids don't know you etc.

Good luck. (Yes I'm in educaton.)

Hi Mandarin,  I have found that i have ABSOLUTELY NO motivation to do anything BUT, if i just take that first step,  once i take that first step, eventually my other will follow, and whatever it is that i am doing i will get into it and by the time i am done, i am glad i did it,  (does that make any sense)?  i hope so... Good luck to ya

Yes Goofynina that made a lot of sense.  I find that getting going is the hard part.  Once I am up and moving, and have a shower, I am ready to roll with the day.  Plan something to do, then plan something FUN to do after it. Go for a walk in your neighborhood, bake cookies and take them to a neighbor (shock the hell out of your neighbor just for fun).  You might make a friend. Make sure the cookies are edible. ;D
Substitute teaching can be fun, but it is hard to do. Go online or get a few education magazines and get a bag of tricks you can use for emergencies.  When I subbed I always carried a poetry book and could read to the kids, or have them copy a poem and illustrate it.  Other little tricks I have if you want them.

Motivation is a tough one. You guys are right though. The first step is the hardest. Kitkatz you are also right in that taking a shower first gets you going. I do that first thing and then try not to turn on the TV. Once I do that, it's all over!

I try to make a list of all the things that need to get done. I slowly make my way through that list. One step at a time. Plus, if there is something big that needs to be accomplished, I break it down into little steps. Cleaning the bedroom may just start with one thing such as doing laundry or making the bed. And once you get started, it's easier to finish.

Substituting sounds like a great idea. At least hopefully you get breaks often and hopefully the person you are subbing for does not have to be out for a long period of time.

I think it would be great to get out and interact with others also. Kind of lifts your spirits too.

What's dialysis?

« Reply #10 on: September 05, 2006, 02:36:15 PM »

Hi Mandarin,

I work full - time for a supermarket here in the UK.  It takes me an hour to travel there and back from home and 3 evenings a week I am at the hospital for dialysis.  So as you can imagine I have little spare time.  I`m not motivated to go to work either but I have to from a financial point of view.  I would much rather shop for electronic gadgets, surf the net, go out or play video games etc.

I just don`t seem to have much time to do the things I enjoy.  My life is not fulfilling at all, I have too much boring stuff going on to get anywhere near being fulfilled!!!

I find these days that the only way I can keep myself motivated is to get up with the sun, have a good breakfeast + Coffee and dive right into the day before I have a chance to think about how I'm feeling. Diving into work or a project on the weekends has allowed me to have a sense of accomplishment and normalcy.
Buying a house built in 1880 has kept me constantly busy, not a day goes by where there isn't a new fix added to the list.

That's how I do it.  And a good cold shower works wonders on getting the morning's  "slow" blood to circulate!     :o :o

Yes of course there is no tag error now because I fixed your post. Also i noticed you replied to EVERY thread I fixed, which is not necessary. Please do not do that in the future.

Here is an example of what I mean by "tag" errors:

You have errors in your post. Do you see what I mean now?

Sure thing, the only reason I did it in public was because you replied to every thread that I had to go and edit because you did not check your post(s). Do you remember posting in 5 different threads asking what you did wrong? And asking "what tag errors"?

Also your statement should apply to you as well, please correct ME via PM's. So if you wish to discuss this further you are welcome to PM me or send an email. Take care.  :)
