My Pop's is on is way to his fistula

Well last week my dad went in and got his arms looked at.  He was told he has wonderful vains and it won't be a problem for the fistula. He has been to a class informing him on all the ins and outs regarding the fistula. He meets with the doc on the 12th to set up a date to have it put in.  This is all good news.  It is all going so well, and so much faster then we thought. so yey for that 

My dad also got a lot of paper work from the mayo clinic talking about getting on the transplant list. So that is all good.  My step mother fliped out the day they recived the paper work in the mail.  I don't think it had fully hit her yet.  She cried all last week non stop.  She is having such a hard time with this I feel so bad.  I cried a lot when I first found out he was going to need Dialysis.  I found out Christmas Eve morning.  That was hard. That was really hard.  I cried that whole weekend.  It broke my heart. I have had kidney problems for so long I knew exactly what it ment.  But I have come to realize that it is going to keep my father here with us, and that is all that matters.  He is such a wonderful man, and grandfather to my kids.  I just don't know how I can help my step mother.  She is hurting so bad.  It is effecting my dad really bad too.  So its been hard. I have told her to come join IHD.  I don't know if she will. I think she should, I hope she dose.  So if you guys could send her some good engery, and prayers it would be awsome.  Her and my dad really need them right now.

To me the best place to learn to deal with Dialysis.  And preferable predialysis is this site.
I am a case in point.  When i found out i was in,  denial Karen was in tears.  Neither of us really knew what to expect.  I had no questions to ask my neph.  For i had no idea what he was ever talking about.  Yes he tried to explain but well,  in one ear out the other with me when i dont understand certain stuff.  Or when im in denial.

So i think they should both come here.

This place brought me out of denial and into acceptance in a few short days.
This by far is THE BEST SITE a predialysis patient can find. and a SUPER site for anyone on dialysis to find as well. IMO.

Yeah I think this is a wonderful site. I have told them both to come. As much as I'd love my dad to come, I think his pride is a little to much for him right now. I think he needs a little more time. I think that his wife will come sooner or later.  I just hope at least one of them comes. I know I can get as much info as you guys can give me, and give it to them. But it just isn't the same if one of them comes.  My dad said he came once and read a bunch of post but it was for people who are really sick, and already on dialysis.  I told him that wasn't ture he should come. So lets corss our fingers.

I too have tried to encourage family members to join but alas
I just print off stuff from this site and share the info with them - especially Dad
He just wants to go in to the unit , get dialyised, then get out and go home
It can be especially hard for your Pop if your Pop has never been "sick" before
My Dad found it difficult being the "man" of the house and being the "strong" one for the family and then dialysis became apart of life and  his lifestyle changed
Instead of us leaning on and relying on Dad and his advice and strength -   the tables (in his eyes) had turned - now he doesn't feel strong and believes he has to rely on us

Just be there for your family , to talk with or listen to
And gain strength from IHD family
And yes we do cry
