I have to settle for cat's since they are my moms. I had to give up my dog when I moved in with my parents. I would prefer a dog since you can rough house with them more, but the cats will do and are some sort of companionship when I'm sick.

Oh Chris! Oh Dan!!!! "some sort of companionship"??!! oh dear... I am dismayed!!!

It's OK. I recognise there are dog people and there are cat people and often the two don't mix.

I can tell you from just this weekend when I was bundled up in bed with a temp of 38.6 and shivering under layers of blankets and clothes and stuff my cat still stuck by me and did her best to keep me warm.

They know when we are not well and they respond in a loving and understanding way.

I agree with Richard. My sweet cat gives me so much unconditional love.  She climbs up on me, puts one "arm" on each side of my neck and hugs me. The she nestles her head under my chin and purrs with condentment.    I loved my dog and miss him dearly, but cats are much more affectionate.  Of course, she is as big as some dogs!

Dan, we need to find you a Maine Coon cat. It is like having a dog, but they are litter trained!

Loving?  All I ever get from a cat is scratches, else they jump off the roof when I go outside at night and scare the bejeebies out of me, or else they would jump on my dog and chase him inside.  Thank goodnes they didn't learn to use the doggie door.

Hey, no fair - I like dogs and cats - I'm just allergic to the dogs, so I have a kitty instead.

The people I really wonder about are the ones who don't like pets at all!

My mother doesn't like any pets.  But we made her have a cat for 18 years when I was young.  And she feeds mine when I'm away.  She's a loving person too - not a grumpy old lady or anything.  Just can't stand animals...doesn't see the point of them I think.

Dan I am worried that cats jump on your dog and chase it when it's supposed to be the other way around!! Although my little kitty who is tiny and managed to scare the little dog next door for awhile which was amusing. The dog would go out for its walk and just SEE my cat staring at it from my window and the dog would whimper!! LMAO. (cute dog though she was sweet used to lick my hand and was happy to see me, just not Celeste :) ). Is your dog a wimp Dan??? LOL!! Need to show it some Silvester cartoons or something  :rofl;

yeah 38.6 was not fun but I am all better now. In an interesting twist I heard form the nurses our hospital has a patient in ICU with swine flu which shut down their kidneys and they need emergency dialysis (but once the flu is dealt with they will recover in theory).

Richard, My dog Mike was not a wimp!  He would taunt the cats but when they went after him he'd run.  Bad experience I guess.  Actually Mike was what you'd call a smartass.  Do they say that your pets take on your personality?

I've been wondering about the kidneys.  I still can't get the proteins, potassium and phosphrors levels up and I can't even let them remove a liter of fluid without getting goofy.  I kind of think my kidneys are still working some.  LET ME OFF THIS MACHINE!

Then our male cat would scary the crap out of him because he comes running through the little door  from the basement where the litter box is due to the loud head-butting the plastic door.  :rofl;

I thought you all might enjoy this cute photo.  My niece took it at my brother's vet clinic which this little kitty was not too happy about visiting.

Any caption suggestions?   "Touch me and I claw out your eyes"...is mine.

That is a cute and clever photo, even though its a cat.

They had a precious (almost pure bred I'd say) miniature greyhound at the human society.  Problem was, I was told, he was turn in because of "behavior problems".  Anybody ever had  one?
