Today I painted the understairs area in anticipation of a most wonderfull white sideboard (the only one that would fit in a 125 cm width space. I couldn't move my arms for the rest of the afternoon, but I'm well proud.

Hi Kristina, I hope you are okay too. Today I went with Hubby to sort new glasses, and an eye test for Glaucoma, as my dad had that. And cos I had retina tearing after my first husband had beaten me up, they had to check that too. I was fine. They did that perivisual (or something) test too. I still have flashing lights in my eye.

I hope you had a brilliant day! Here up North it was quite sunny and ridiculously cold (okay, only -1' C, but with the wind chill factor etc it felt like -10'C)

Hi Cassandra, I am sorry to read about your eye-problems and I am very sorry to read about your first husband...
...I do hope he leaves you alone now?!!!  Did you move away from the town where you lived before the separation?
Could it be figured out why you have flashing lights in your eye? Has it been diagnosed? It does sound scary ...
... I had a surprisingly good day yesterday, including my dialysis-treatment...
First there were a lots of "things" to be sorted out i.e. seeing the dentist, which, despite my fears, turned out very good...
and after that we concentrated on locating a shop where to buy our freshly roasted coffee-beans,
since our last coffee-beans-supplier has retired and the shop is no more...
...   We only ever buy freshly roasted coffee-beans because that seems to be the best way to know about what we get ...
... It turned out to be a lucky day and we found a reliable shop where they specialize in freshly roasted-coffee-beans...
... Then I prepared our potato-salad with gherkins and olives and after that we went to the dialysis-centre,
where suprisingly I was "put on" straight away and that was a welcome surprise, because usually there is a bit of a wait involved...
... So, it was a good day yesterday and today might be a bit of a different story, because we are waiting for the "phantom-plumber" to arrive...
We call them "phantoms", because so far they have never arrived in time, had all the excuses ...
... and adding to that it always seems to involve such a looooooong wait... ::)  ... despite the fact ...
... that we are always given a precise time of arrival  ::) ... which so far has unfortunatly never been correct...
... I do hope your eyes were sorted out correctly and you found best fitting new glasses and I send you my best wishes from Kristina. :grouphug;

Hi Kristina glad to hear yesterday was good, and I'm pretty sure today will turn out good too. And my eyes are okay, it's just the scarring on the retina and the tests including very bright lights shining in the eyes to check. It'll be alright tomorrow, it's only once a year.
I heard before from my SIL about the very unreliable workmen down South.

But than again at your's you have freshly roasted coffee beans  :thumbup;    I am now going to Google freshly roasted coffeebeans up North, I doubt very much I will find them, thanx for that tip.
I'll try fresh coffeebeans too. Must be funny to roast my own coffeebeans.

Okarol hon, keep fighting girl  ;D

Hello again Cassandra, and thanks for your kind thoughts  :cuddle;
... Did I hear anyone mentioning miracles?  Well, we had one practically happening today
because the plumber arrived this afternoon (we were waiting for 5 hours)
and he did all the repairs and left us with our kitchen perfectly intact again !!!  :bow;
... It just goes to show that life is not too bad sometimes ...
Cassandra, could you not try and order your freshly roasted coffee-beans through the Internet
and have them delivered to your door?
...I am so glad that your eyes are ok. and I do hope they recover quickly
from the bright lights shining into them during the eye-examination...
Best wishes and good luck from Kristina. :grouphug;

Hello Cassandra,I hope you were lucky today and hopefully your coffee beans have arrived?
... I have looked up "union coffee" and they sound very interesting and many thanks for mentioning them
and I shall pay them a visit as soon as I need more coffee-beans again ...
... A few years ago I met by chance on a train-journey a professional coffee-expert and of course we talked about coffee
and he told me that he would never buy anything else but freshly roasted coffee-beans from reputed shops,
because some supermarkets mix other "bits and pieces" into the "bulk" of if their finely grinded coffee beans
because that "sort of thing" comes much cheaper ...
Of course, I have no idea whether or not this professional coffee-expert was joking,
but ever since I have made sure to only buy freshly roasted coffee beans
and I grind them myself at home in my electric blender, whenever needed...
Best wishes from Kristina and good luck! :grouphug;

Hello, kristina and cassandra!  I am interested in your conversation about using fresh, whole coffee beans that you grind yourselves.  What kind of coffee beans did you order, Cassandra?  And what kind of beans do you usually buy, Kristina?

There is a lady in our town who owns her own coffee and tea shop, and we always go to her for our whole beans.  Neither hubby nor I drink a lot of coffee, but when we do, we like to have the real stuff!  For Christmas a few years ago, I bought hubby a top of the line coffee grinder along with a special container in which to store fresh, whole beans.  So having coffee at our house is something a bit special.  Rare, but special.

Is Kona coffee (from Hawaii) available in the UK?

Hello MooseMom ,
Having just googled "Kona" coffee, I have noticed that it is available here in the UK and thanks for the idea, because we have not tried it yet... Our "usual" roasted coffee-beans-taste has been for many years a rich Viennese blend, which comes over as "continentally cosy" with a mild taste, which goes very well with having a rest whilst reading something interesting ...
... Since our "usual" roasted-coffee-beans-shop is no more, we are still in the process of trying different blends from different places.
... Next on our list is to try out from M&S (Marks and Spencer) their "Italian Coffee Beans" (rich and chocolatey) and we look forward to try out the different choices at "Union Coffee", because that really looks like "the real ticket"...
... A few years ago there was a special coffee-celebration at Harrods and of course I had to go there to find out more and they celebrated Arabian coffee-beans and we were offered a cup of real Arabian coffee (no milk, no sugar) and I still remember the wondersful taste of it and regret, not writing down what it was precisely, because the smooth taste of that coffee was unforgettable and it was the first cup of coffee I have ever tasted which was extremely tasty and smooth without any sugar or milk and that means a lot, because usually coffee without milk or sugar tastes a bit bitter, but the Arabian coffee at the Harrods coffee-celebration was perfectly smooth and very tasty and we were told it is so very strong that two cups of it in one go would be a bit too much...
Best wishes from Kristina :grouphug;

kristina, there is a local coffee shop nearby that's very trendy; it's where all the cool kids hang out with their laptops!  This shop imports beans from all over the world, and then they roast them themselves.  So, a customer can buy any quantity of these various beans to take home with them.  However, each day the shop will choose one particular coffee bean and will grind it to offer it for drinking right then and there, so you can drink all sorts of coffees from all over the world.  Yesterday I had a cup of coffee from El Salvador.  I once had a cup of coffee from Ethiopia.  This morning I had a coffee blend with chocolate and macadamia nuts.  It's fun!

Hi hons I've just enjoyed my first cup of double espresso from blend Revelation from Union Coffee. It's lovely. Chocolatety and Cinnamony. Didn't get the treacle taste yet, which it supposedly has, but than I don't actually know what that taste like anyways.
It really is nice, and smooth!. The beans are from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Sumatra and Rwanda. It is the taster pack Dark Roast from UC.

Moosemum your coffeeshop sounds like fun indeed.

NB I'll start looking for the research paper I once read which says that coffee drinking CKD/D people live longer. Or maybe it said they are less depressed  ;D

Hello MooseMom it really sounds like you are having great coffee-fun! How do you drink coffee from  El Salvador, Ethiopia and the coffee blend with chocolate and macadamia nuts?
Do you drink it pure or with milk and sugar? And how does it taste?
Hello Cassandra, your "double espresso" from Union Coffee sounds like a great treat as well !... It would be interesting to find out about the research paper saying coffee drinking CKD-D people live longer or are less depressed... Perhaps CKD-people take more care in what they drink because of certain CKD-d-liquid limitations...? I certainly take great care to make sure that whatever I drink I enjoy to the full every time because of my daily liquid-limitations...
Best wishes from Kristina. :grouphug;
