He was admitted this morning after yesterday's blood tests results came in and showed his potassium level was high.

He just told me to go home and get a good nights sleep. YEAH, RIGHT! :sarcasm;

They gave him a bunch of different things to absorb the potassium and he's ok...but the dr. said he would have to be on this medicine all the time now.

This is the 2nd time he's had to do this. He's been on a pretty hard-core low potassium diet...but that didn't help.

Both urologist and nephrologist says he's more than likely headed for dialysis.

I'm not the patient, and he's not yet on dialysis, but I have to say that I ALREADY HATE DIALYSIS.

Thanks, Sluff. He'll probably get out tomorrow. I'll be at the hospital at 4am getting him ready!

Sorry to hear about Randy, I hope they get him stable.  Try to get some rest.  Don't worry, we all hate dialysis - that's why this is our favorite site! JK.  We are here for you annabanana.  By the way, my friends little girl's name is anna, but she doesn't like bannanas so we call her anna strawberry.  I have been meaning to tell you that.   :big hug:

Oh, Anna!

I agree, I hate dialysis too, but after 2 years (this week!) I have to admit my life is better because
of this horrendous, boring, uncomfortable, STUPID procedure.  Randy WILL feel better once he
starts.  Well, give it a week or so actually.

I'm glad the doctors had him the hospital. That is NOTHING to play around with. Anyway, hang in there, you'll get through this, as will Randy..  Just ask questions, and VENT all you want, here!!!

I'm sorry he has to go through this.  It's a miracle, though, that there is treatment that can actually help him.  It is a pain, but the pain without it is much worse.  I hate dialysis, but I love the miracle of dialysis.  Best wishes to you both.

How are you supposed to go home and get a goodnight's sleep?  I know my hubby would tell me that when he had his accident.  It is hard to do.  Worry worry! I hope everything is better now.

Anna, your husband is very lucky to have someone like you care so much for him.  I'm sure that knowing you are here is a tremendous help and comfort to him.

Anna just hold on tight.  I know it must feel like everything is spinning our of control.  But, hopefully, everything
will soon straighten out.

Rolando tells me not to worry about him, I tell him that that's my job!

AB, I hope Randy's potassium is back "under control" and he's back home soon.

annabanana -- oh, sweetie, hugs to you  :grouphug;.  My Marvin always says to me, "You need to go get some rest" when he's in the hospital, but I really don't know how to do that.  I'm thinking about you and Randy.  I hope he's home and doing better.  Let us know how both of you are doing today.

And, Alene, I agree with you here...

I think I finally got rest last night. Thank you all for all the good words. Randy is home and very tired but they got his potassium under control. He'll have to take medicine now to keep potassium and phosphorus levels down. He saw his neph's partner in the hospital and this man wants to see him again tomorrow. So soon...that always scares me a bit. But it is good that they are on top of things.

I want to give a big giant thank you to all of you because I was so INFORMED and ready when the doctors came in to see him! And when the dietician came in, too.

Everybody kept talking about dialysis...so they are probably getting R. used to the idea. The bad part is that on the last day there, R. started getting frustrated and then depressed. He said, "I always told you I wasn't going to go on life support." He talks like he's on the verge of giving up...so I tell him all the wonderful stories from IHD. I'm going to read to him from this website. He won't sit at the computer but he'll listen. So that's another big giant thank you from me! I know your stories will help him!

I'm glad Randy is home. I think if you look at dialysis only as a temporary measure of life support needed until transplant he may see that as something to look forward to. Good Luck.. :grouphug;

Yes! that will be good for him to hear! The doctors talked a little about transplant also.
He's got to be free of cancer for 2 years before they put him on a list. So we have 1 1/2 yrs. left to wait.
After everything I've read here, 1 1/2 yrs. is SOON!
