. He said, "I always told you I wasn't going to go on life support." He talks like he's on the verge of giving up...so I tell him all the wonderful stories from IHD. I'm going to read to him from this website.

Hi Anna, tell Randy that breathing is life support and he wouldn't think of not doing that!  ;)I know he must feel down but as has beensuggested,if he can think of it as a stop gap then that may help.  I hope that knowing that all of us are wishing the best for him will help him a little  :big hug:

Anna, I'm glad your Randy is feeling better, it feels like a life sentence
when you first hear about having to do dialysis. I cried quite a few times!

Just think of it as a chore, bathing, brushing teeth, that kind of thing,
It's a bit more serious than that, I know, but if you start off with the
attitude it's to be done, it does help.

I have a routine, and Randy and you will have one too, once he starts. DO HOME dialysis
if you can, it really makes your life (and his!!) so much better.

Anna,

I really admire your courage, strength and dedication toward your Randy.  He is very blessed to have you in his life.  Continue doing what you do because sometimes "we" as patients might not show gratitude always, but deep down past the fear and anger, we appreciate/love our"care givers".

All I can say is CARE GIVERS ROCK!!!

 :thumbup; I am glad to hear he's getting good care, and with you by his side - he's one lucky guy! However, it's probably hard for him to filled with gratitude at the moment, but many people live productive and happy lives on dialysis. good luck!

Glad Randy is home! I'm pre-dialysis too, but not really sick yet -- just very tired. It must be very hard to adjust to such a life changing thing while feeling really awful and being in and out of the hospital. My heart aches for both of you. But I think you will both come through this and figure out how to deal well with what life has handed you.

I love the idea of dialysis being like brushing your teeth -- with needles!

When my partner was told he was heading for diaylsis, he said he wouldn't do it but when the moment arrived, he didn't hesitate.

Hang in there.  :grouphug;

Yes, I try to treat it like brushing your teeth, etc. I talk about it often because I think he might be better prepared, and more comfortable with the idea.

Psim, being tired is R's biggest complaint. It's hard. But interesting that when his potassium goes up he feels really good...weird, huh?

Annie Bananie, I am hoping that he'll be able to do home dialysis.

Thanks, everyone!

P.S. Breathing is life support! Yeah!!! :clap;

I'm just catching up on the site after my few days away with Keith.
I'm sorry he went thru the hospital stay.. but then... they got his levels down and thats a plus
Thankfully they are on top of things and it sounds like you have great doctors..

Now as far as that go home and get some rest?  Aint it just like them to tell you something like that?
You would get more rest being with him knowing he's ok than home fretting about it..

I'm glad he's out and doing better.. and 1 1/2 yrs..is a hop skip and a jump.

lots of love and  :grouphug;

no kidding, Mysty, about getting more rest knowing he's ok. I woke up practically every hour wanting to go back to the hospital. Had to force myself to go back to sleep. Next time I'll just stay.
