Life's a bitch and then you go on dialysis!

« Reply #50 on: January 24, 2008, 05:21:52 AM »

Susie, thank God it's treatable. I was worried sick about you all day yesterday and the first thing I did when I got to work this morning was log on to IHD to see if there was any news. My thoughts will be with you on Friday when you have the surgery. You'll get through it I know you will.

Even though I didn't post, I was thinking about you and worrying about you yesterday, goofynina.  So I'm VERY glad to hear that this problem is something they can do something about.  Wow, Friday is SOON!  But best to get it over and done quickly.  Sometimes I think that the most uncomfortable sensation of all is fear, so try not to be too scared, okay?  Remember, with this first round, the fear just made you miserable; it really didn't help a bit, did it? So, again, please try not to be too scared.  We all love you and will be thinking about you and praying for you.  Too bad we don't have a "holding hands" icon; I'm sure we'd all be using it!  Just think of all of us IHD folks holding your hand in spirit!  Hang in there, sweetie.  Sending hugs and love. :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;

Be sure you understand what the wound vac does and are careful with it.  Victor had one.  Let me be honest It is not a pleasant experience, but it will help the wound to heal.

I wish you luck and love.

Hi Susie, glad to hear it can be taken care of! I had a wound vac when I had my skin graft due to my burns. It basically is a seal that helps keep the wound from getting infections. I was attached to a little machine, that was the worst part of it, I had to carry the thing with me and keep getting on and off of it if I wanted to change my clothes! I wish you well and good luck!

I'm glad they're able to take care of it so soon for you. The longer you have to wait for the surgery, the longer you'd have to be anxious over it. You'll feel better soon!

Susie, best wishes. Regarding the wound vac, Rolando's experience was a good one, so apparently the experience varies by application. Like okarol said, it promotes the growth of granulation tissue and it was the last technique used on Rolando's wounds. It healed them. They place a porous spongelike material into the wound, cover it with an adhesive backing with a tube in it, sealing it from outside air and providing a passageway for the vacuum. It is self contained with a rechargeable battery so you can get out and around with it. It will take home health care to change the dressing. Pay close attention to the right way to do it because we found that most of the visiting nurses were not competent with it.

I'm looking forward to future conversations with you and even though you don't yet know me, you've warmed my heart many a time.

Lots of love,
