So this youngster at the grocery store says to the lady behind the deli counter, "Can you believe Bruno Mars is singing at the Super Bowl?"

Then she looked to me for a reaction.

Having never heard of him, I said, "Is he related to Bruno Sammartino?"

The young lady thought about that for a minute.

Then she wrinkled her nose and said, "Who?" and looked at me like I should be sitting off by myself on a park bench somewhere knitting a scarf.

Hey!  I am younger than you and I knit in public on a regular basis!    ;D

But I will admit to rolling my eyes at Pink/Daft Punk/Beyonce/Robin Thicke last night during the Grammys while singing along with Merle Haggard to "Okie from Muskogee".   :guitar:

The Red Hot Chilipeppers will be performing at the Super Bowl, too.  I'm not sure how that's gonna work because they and Bruno Mars are just soooo different!

Bruno Mars is really talented; he's quite the crooner.  He was very funny when he was on SNL.  As for his music, well, it can be an acquired taste.

Hey  old man , I KNOW WHO BRUNO SAMMARTINO is/was. I saw him rassle(wrestle?) at the old Boston Garden as a kid in the 1960s. That name goes back a LONG LONG LONG time.  He was "champ (chump) for a long time also.
I know Tony Atlas also. His wife once worked for me.  He is another old time  wrestler.
Remember  KILLER Kawalski?
I bet you and I could rememeber a lot of old stuff together for all these youngsters out here.

Hey!  I know who Killer Kowalski is... I'm probably related to him, since I'm related to every Kowalski I've ever met.... though, that wasn't his real name... he's still Polish-Canadian, so you never know...

I enjoy Bruno Mars.  I like to keep up with current music trends so my grandkids don't think I am old and out of it.  It makes me discover musicians I might otherwise not here.  I need to know who One Directon is, what they sing, and Macklemore and what his message is.   I just remember hearing my Mom complain about Elvis and his music, so I decided then I would listen and learn as the decades went by.  You never know what you might miss.

Paris, One Direction is a manufactured British boy band best known for their hair.  That's all you need to know!

In our day, everyone sort of listened to the same music.  But now, there is so much music out there, and people tend to compose their own playlists.  I like to watch the Grammy's to see who are the flavors of the day and who are the up and coming musicians.  There don't seem to be any new rock bands (Is "Imagine Dragons" technically a rock band?)  But there do seem to be some good young vocalists (or maybe just some cool songs, like "Royals".  Is Lorde really that good, or is it just that the song is that popular?).

I go with that line in the old movie "The Big Chill" .  When asked if he had more modern music than the 1960s , the answer was "IN THIS HOUSE THERE IS NO OTHER MUSIC" .  I am forever a fan of music from 1955 at the dawn of rock and roll to about 1976 before disco ruined everything. That 20 years or so was the best of rock, where it all began. You could actually hear the lyrics often also, and they were a lot nicer than anything now.
We are getting close to the anniversary of "THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED''  .  February 3 , 1959.  We lost Buddy Holly, Richie Valence, and The Big Bopper., all lost in a cornfield in Iowa. So young. So much talent.

I agree with you 100%.

Here is a quote from Homer Simpson of "The Simpsons" fame by way of validation:

"Why do you need new bands? Everyone knows rock attained perfection in 1974. It's a scientific fact."   ;D

Ok, at least I know who Bruno Mars is now.

Not exactly my kind of music, but if I jumped up and down like that, I'd be scheduling my knee surgery this morning.
