Hello from the Florida Panhandle

I have been on hemo for a little over a year now. I was diagnosed with glomerular nephritis in 1982. It took until late '05 (and an awful lot of sick, sick days) for me to start dialysis. I truly hate dialysis. I run for 4 hours, three days a week. I am 49 years old and was director of business development for a large contract engineering firm with offices from Houston to Panama City. I had to give that position up in July, 2004 because I could not maintain the long hours and travel requirements due to my illness. I have a beautiful wife and two wonderful sons. My sons get a little confused about why I am tired a lot. My wife has been nothing but supportive. She is under a lot of stress because she now has to be the breadwinner for our family. She only worked before because she enjoyed it. I worry about her. I have "lurked" here for a few weeks now and have enjoyed and learned a lot from this site. I look forward to becoming a part of the family.

Welcome to IHD thh21,
Thanks for coming out of the closet we appreciate you becoming part of our family here at IHD. Your family has had to adjust just like you did and it is hard but sounds like you are all in this together and that is great.
Your son's are probably my son'sage or a little older since I am 45 yrs old so maybe they can read some of the posts here and get a little more understanding about life as a caregiver:

Welcome to our community! I really like it when people who lurked join our community. I am looking forward to your participation. Please keep posting. Ask questions (answer some), rant, vent, express yourself. That is what this is here for. We have developed into a fast-growing, caring and sharing community, really a family. So feel a part and do your part. Hope the tornado didn't affect you.

P.S. You could very well be the nearest member to me. Your panhandle is pointing down towards our islands. I am in the northern Caribbean - Virgin Islands.

Welcome to our site Thh21. I also had to give up a position that I loved because of dialysis. People say "you didn't have to quit", but I couldn't stay and do a less than adequate job. I'd rather leave! I feel like such a loser! But, hopefully I can help others on this site. You can too by becoming a member. Thank you for joining. You should consider becoming a "Premium Member" as soon as you can.
