Grateful to my donor, I feel great!.

WWW
« on: March 23, 2011, 08:18:32 AM »

I go in on Sunday morning and prep for transplant on Monday morning. My last day at the clinic will be Friday after more than three years of dialysis. What should I do on my last day of in center hemodialysis? What would you do?

Larry

Congrats, Larry.  Just let your clinic know you appreciated their care and that it's nothing personal, but you hope that you never have to see them again  :waving;

I'd let them know that you understand that their good care kept your body in good enough condition that you are eligible for transplantation in the first place!  Thank them for keeping you relatively healthy!  Congratulations.  I am so looking forward to you posting about how wonderful your life has become!!  I can't wait to read about your happy news!

 :cheer: I am so excited for you Larry - please keep us posted!
I can barely remember Jenna's last day at dialysis - the nurse wished her well, I think.
I asked Jenna if she wanted to go back and visit and she said no, she didn't want to flaunt her transplant in front of patients who may never get off dialysis.
Best wishes Larry!  :bandance;

Just today I was saying to my husband that we had no idea that our last day of dialysis would be our last.

I agree with BB. Take some chocolates in so folks can share.

We went back to visit our team afterward and I've kept up with them by e-mail.

I'm so glad for you.  :cheer:

Congratulations and best of luck.    My new kidney is 6 1/2 months old.  One thing I am glad that happened; right before I went under, the doctors wanted to know if I would like to see the new kidney.  I was groggy, but still clearly can see the kidney laying on ice in a stainless bowl. Wishing you a wonderful, successful transplant.  It is always exciting news.   :2thumbsup;

I think many said a box of chocolates and I like that idea too. My daugher in law is a nurse and she says they all love it when someone brings them treats.

I agree with those who say that you should thank your entire dialysis team for getting you back on your feet and keeping you healthy enough to get a transplant now.

And congrats to you (soon) joining us EX-dialysis patients with newly transplanted working kidneys!

Here's a note I just received:

Hi,
Just a quick note to say that Larry is in the hospital now and things are moving forward.  He will have a short dialysis today and we are hoping that this will be his last drawing.  The exact surgery time is yet to be determined.  Typically the donor goes in at 6:30 and the recipient goes in at 7:30am.  I believe that we will find out soon though and I will post the time in Facebook.

Thanks for all your prayers, healing thoughts and kindness.
Janet

I left the hospital tonight to find that someone had broken into my car window to steal the handicap placard hanging from the rear view mirror. Glass everywhere! Lucky my heater worked for the ride home.....

Great News!  Larry is out of surgery and producing lots of urine. One friend said "he's peeing like a race horse!"
