Dont let dialysis stop you...

« on: October 19, 2010, 01:48:13 AM »

I know this is the dialysis bored but I have always been on here when I talk to you guys and most of my friends on here patrol this board. So Yea i cant believe its finally happening I am 93% sensitized and my friend matched me about a year ago and weve been through a ton of tests and just a lot of obstacles because of a really bad transplant center, But its actually happening on Thursday..Going to the hospital Wednesday Morning. Than the surgery is Thursday morning! Thank you all for always lending an ear! IM still going to school to be a physician assistant, so Ill have a lot more time for school. I just turned 32 so its a pretty great present! I missed out on my 20's so ill be making up for that very soon..LoL You all have helped me through some very tough times... THANKS!! And remember to always have hope. The impossible CAN happen!!!

You still can stick around, you know!  We have a great transplant board here as well - and believe me, when you start dealing with the meds, you will want to compare notes with someone who has been through it already.

Congrats!

Neo!!! I am so thrilled for you!!  We will all be with you in thoughts and prayers.   I am about 6 weeks ahead of you.  The surgery is not bad at all. They asked if I wanted to see the new kidney in the operating room.  I said YES!   The pain afterwards was much less than I anticipated.  I was in ICU the first day, and only used the morphine pump 4 times in 24 hours. (apparently 16 times is normal)  Use it and stay on top of the pain.  Then percocet easily controlled the pain.  I never got above a 3 out of 10 pain level.  Getting up and walking wasn't hard either.  I was ready to try while still in ICU. It felt good to stretch and sit in a chair.  I do think the "high" you have after surgery helps a lot. I just couldn't believe it happened and couldn't stop smiling.     If I could suggest taking something with you, it would be lip balm and tic-tacs!  Dry lips and mouth was my biggest problem.  And that can't count as a problem compaired to kidney failure!!     But, do take things easy and rest. Your body needs sleep to help heal itself.   I know I am rambling, but I am so excited for you I can hardly stand it.

Is there anyone who could post here for you so we know how you are doing?   You know someone has to post a picture of you holding your "golden liquid" bag before you leave the hospital?!  That is the shot we all want to see!

Good luck, Neo.  Your world is going to change in a couple of days.  You deserve this.    :cuddle;
