Thanks Poppy she had struggled with Alzheimers for the past three years and hadn't recognized me for at least the last year, so it's been difficult but at least she is at peace now

After way too much thought, I decided to do Nanowrimo.  Of course, the first day was over by the time I started, but I still wrote 3 pages.  I've no idea what my word count is, though

Stocked up on £25 worth of cleaning/laundry products so aa to collect 7p off per litre of fuel voucher to fill up the car!!!
That's a lot of cleaning and a lot of driving!!!!

Errands!!!! I hate them, but had no choice. Have to go to the orthopedic surgeon on Monday and they wanted a hand carried copy of the test for Carpal Tunnel, so went and got that, then return a blouse. I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I just cant make it back to the store and the item to be returned is collecting dust. Then one more errand, go and get the old blood work drawn. finally it is done, and by the way, so am I.

Ah, but was it a real shepherd's pie or just a cottage pie? I only ask because I don't think I've ever had a real shepherd's pie but am happy to call a cottage pie a shepherd's pie!

And for what it's worth I LOVE shepherd's cottage pie! I'd probably love it with lamb too! I make a fabulous one (Blokey thinks it's The Best!)

 

Today I have had my hair chopped (or, just tidied really) and am waiting for a coat of paint to dry in the living room so that I can give it another coat before the Tesco man gets here with my delivery. I don't think we'll be going to the gym tonight because Blokey's got to put all the tellybox stuff back together.  He's also not going to be happy when I tell him that we need to remove the plug from the display cabinet before we move it (whose bluddy idea was it to thread it behind the big bookcases before we attached them to the wall?!)

Back to work this week after my transplant.  It went well.

I got nothing done, but my plumber sure did.  Woke up this morning to all the drains backed up.  NOT a pretty sight. Fortunately, he could come in an hour.  What is the first thing you need to do when you wake up?  Well, you can't because all the drains are clogged!!  He did a couple hours of work and with cameras snacked down the plumbing to the sewer - about 60 to 70 feet.  Huge roots have grown into the drain pipes under ground and have busted through in a couple of places.   He did a temporary fix (my bladder was grateful) and in a couple of weeks, he will be back to dig a ditch from the house to the city sewer lines, take out old drain tiles and lay new ones.  Well, that doesn't sound expensive, does it??   I think I could take a 2 week cruise with that money.   Oh well.   $@%! happens!!!

Well technically it was a cottage pie because I made it with minced beef! but I think you get a stronger flavour with beef than lamb! And I added  carrots and a little leek
and the potato topping has to be golden brown and crunch. And I put HP sauce on mine. I love it

As for me today I managed to dust and vacuum the living room ( first time it has been touched since before Christmas. ) and make a great dinner. Pork loin roast, roasted potatoes, corn and garlic breadsticks. Tomorrow will be pulled pork sandwiches.  I feel tired all of the time, but I am beginning to think it is mostly in my alleged mind.

Shepherd's pie should be made with minced lamb (hence the shepherd in the title) and cottage pie is usually minced beef.  However, the terms are completely interchangeable and I usually say I'm having shepherd's pie regardless of what meat is used!

Sugar, I put carrots, onion and peas.  My MiL doesn't put ANYTHING extra in it.  Mine is far superior. And yes, the potato should be brown and crusty! I opt for tomato ketchup and lashings of gravy with mine. 



Tonight we're having a slow cooker meal.  The aroma has been tickling our tastebuds all day.  Yum. I've had a really lazy day, interspersed with needing to wash the two day old bed linen (because Qyzy-Qat managed to wee on it - we think he's ill; it's usually his way of telling us, pesky cat!) and vaccuum the floors downstairs. We've been in our 'lounge wear' all day. Rebels. It's nasty wet weather outside though and we got drenched at the footie yesterday when a mini-hurricane stomy type thing managed to sweep through part of England. It was fun.

Bought winter coat (smart) very posh designer label black dress (classy) and some wonderful silver shoes (sparkly)
all for under £100. Very chuffed about that

Yesterday I got the dishes put away from Thanksgiving!  That really was a chore as most of them went behind other things in the buffet. Today was a cooking day. I put a pot of beans on this morning, then made a batch of cookies and a corn pudding for a covered dish lunch today. After getting home from that I whipped up some sweet cornbread to go with the bean soup. Yummy. Cooking makes me feel so domestic.

I also put together my lunches for the week. I fix up salads in quart jars. I really dislike preparing lunches for school, so doing the whole week at one time takes some of the sting out of it. They really last quite well.

While putting away the Thanksgiving dishes, I had to move some silver out of the way. Carl got to polishing it and I must say that things are quite shiny in the dining room now!

I also did three loads of laundry yesterday and changed the sheets and towels today and got them washed. Busy day.

I would love me some of that shepherd's/cottage pie. There is a historic "English" settlement not far from here where they serve a good shepherd's pie (although it could be cottage). Now I am hankering some. Snow in the forecast for tomorrow. I wish it would come a big one and we could call school off. Carl has his three year transplant clinic tomorrow, so he will be out of school for most of the day. It is hard to believe it has been three years.

I went to a Diabetes forum to-day, and have been inspired to undertake regular exercise and eat my vegies! I have just completed 30 minutes exercise in 38 degree (100f) heat and do not feel like vegies.
