Hi, I'm a woman in my late 30s and I come from Malaysia. I'm Chinese by descent, Malaysian by nationality and Christian by faith (Methodist).

I've been on hemodialysis for more than 5 years. You can call me arwen for short as I'd rather remain anonymous here.

I have a degree in IT but I'm now considered a dinosaur by the youngins who've just graduated. I've tried my best to hold down an IT job for several years before I started dialysis. I've never been that successful. I'm now working part-time as an accounts clerk, I don't earn much, in fact, I earn a pittance. I live with my parents.

I'm really thankful for such lovely and understanding parents but at the same time, I know I shouldn't take the life I have now for granted. I have to prepare for the eventuality that my parents will pass away someday and I will have to learn to stand on my own 2 feet.

 :welcomesign;
I recently joined, and i think this is a wonderful place, i wish i knew about it a long time ago!

What is pittance? Do they offer any kind of assistance there for people who are disabled? Im pretty.. dumb when it comes to other places and things like that. I know here, in the US, its very difficult to get help, but when its kidney failure, its pretty well automatic, if u can apply for it, and get everything together, its not very much, but u eventually learn to live on what u get. Im raising me and my son on $600 a month... It can be difficult, but we manage. Hope that helps  :cuddle;

Oh Gothic, you gave me a chuckle. Pittance means a small, or a minimal wage. Many a times I've been in a situation where I was not quite sure what a word meant too. That's how we learn right? Arwen, I come here as my husband's on dialysis. I've learned so much and no longer feel so alone in dealing with this illness. Welcome!

Hi and  :welcomesign; I am also new on this site. I am glad you join us. I understand how you feel but you are not alone. I originally from Thailand but I live in Australia for quite long time. It is a great country I am lucky to be here if I was still in Thailand I would sick and die no money to pay for dialysis treatment and all medications. I am not sure about Malaysia. Keep posting we would like to hear more from you.

I'm so glad you found us.  This site is very helpful and funny.  We have a great time despite what we all have in common.
