tuesday i got word that it's official. as of january 5th my center is starting a nocturnal shift. so when i get back from my trip to oregon february 2 i'm going nocturnal.   :yahoo; :yahoo; i can hardly wait. i didn't think there was any point in starting on the 5th as i'm leaving town on the 15th and the center i use in oregon doesn't do nocturnal. so when i come back it's a go. i can hardly wait.

Rerun advised me to get an eggcrate mattress topper to take with me.  It helps to make the chair endurable for eight hours. You can get one at Walmart or Target. I have also noticed I do not eat the snacks I take along as much anymore on nocturnal.  Must be sleepy time for me.  I also have purchased noise reducing headphones.  They really do work and cut a lot of the machine noise out or down in the center. I have tot ell people to get my attention when these headphones are on me because I will not hear them.

the last time i spoke with the head of my center about the nocturnal shift they had ordered a special insert that fits the dialysis chairs that's designed for sleeping. it's supposed to be more confortable, we'll see. if they don't work i do plan on getting an eggrate or maybe a memory foam thingie.

Diabetes -  age 7

Neuropathy in legs age 10

Eye impairments and blindness in one eye began in 95, major one during visit to the Indy 500 race of that year
   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye
     - vitrectomy in good eye post tx November 2003, totally blind for 4 months due to complications with meds and infection

Diagnosed with ESRD June 29, 1999
1st Dialysis - July 4, 1999
Last Dialysis - December 2, 2000

Kidney and Pancreas Transplant - December 3, 2000

Cataract Surgery on good eye - June 24, 2009
Knee Surgery 2010
2011/2012 in process of getting a guide dog
Guide Dog Training begins July 2, 2012 in NY
Guide Dog by end of July 2012
Next eye surgery late 2012 or 2013 if I feel like it

Jenna is our daughter, bad bladder damaged her kidneys.

ok, got all the details and signed all the paperwork and when i return from oregon (february 3) i start nocturnal. only thing is they are only going to run for 7 hours. when it ain't broke don't fix it!! i guess they're still working on it and i'm hoping that by the time i get back they'll have decided to run for 8.

kitkatz, i've got a question.....do you wear your jamies??????????? i'm thinking i want to be as comfortable as possible. i may get some scrubs, because they are loose fitting and have elastic waists. the techs and i can be twins  :rofl;

I wear the pants I have on during the day and a loose fitting tshirt most dialysis days. I want to be comfy, so no bra on with the t-shirt and who cares what they see.  :rofl; I might shift over to PJs but they are thin and I like being warm.

The lights are off overhead, some lights on low so nurses and techs can see, but away from our area.
Yes, he misses me. But he takes me at 8p.m and picks me up at 4 a.m.
Yes, I can cover my face, just not the access arm.

Going through life tied to a chair!

I wear my flannel PJ's.  I had to cut the arm off the sleeve but that is okay because they are old.  I have a new pair for home.  I do have an egg crate pad but I'm interested in the insert thing you are talking about. 

Last night my arterial needle stung.  I would feel no pain and then BAMB it was there.  Just one of those nights.  I'm glad they are few and far between.

Good Luck!  My niece lives in Lebanon so I have dialyzed in Corvallis.  Nice center.  I remember it took me forever to find it.

the center here in corvallis is at the good samaritan hospital, less than a mile from my mothers. i could walk if i had to. however they are very small, only 12 chairs and have been full the last 3 times i have been here. i have been going to albany 10 miles from my moms. not bad at all and a very nice center. lebanon is in the opposite direction.

the chair inserts are something my center ordered and apparently are designed for sleeping use in the chairs. i'll let you know after i have tried them.

Yeah, eight hours of BAM and the pain is there in the needle area, sucks! I have had that happen.  The nerve pain runs all the way the fingertips.  The only thing I found works is to find one position that does not hurt and stay there if you can. Benadryl and Tylenol are my friends.  So is Jay Leno and that other late night guy, with the Australian accent.

the adventure starts tonight!!! i have to be there at 8pm, on-time i'm not quite sure. when i left for oregon they were only going to run 7 hours but since i've been gone they have changed it to 8. and when i talked with the social worker on monday, to make sure everything was set up (that's right i trust them just as far as i can throw them, she said i will have a choice between a chair or a bed. yes, i had her repeat it, a bed! we'll see.................. if i'm not to bleary eyed in the morning i'll let everyone know how it went. apparently everyone already on this shift, 3, just love it and wouldn't go back to days for anything. i'm so excited you'd think it was christmas  :rofl; while i realize there can be problems, i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges
