San Antonio sounds great!

There's the Alamo and the Riverwalk. And if the get together is planned around May 5th, I'm sure there would be festivals for Cinco de Mayo.

KellyT mentioned the River Walk, and said there are great restaurants there.

One thing I thought of is what about the people who live on the east coast. Both places are somewhat close together. However I think I will have enough money for  Vegas by October.

Good point. Maybe do Vegas on alternating years. Or come a little farther to California and I will organize some fun here!

I live in San Antonio and I ask that very same question Rerun!   :rofl;  But that's just because I'm lazy!!!

There is the famous Riverwalk crammed with wonderful eateries, bars, dancing, singing, shows, etc.  Also, there is Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas.  There are combination "weekend passes" for locations, so that would be tons of fun even if we don't ride any rides and just see shows or hang out in the fabulous water parks.  We have some great shopping, as well.  Oh, and don't forget about the Alamo and the Missions.  Walking around downtown is lots of fun.

If you make the meeting in April there's Fiesta and that TONS of fun!  I'll do some site research and post some things.

Walking the Riverwalk or taking the river barges is lots of fun (I just did both recently).  There's always someting going on somewhere.  No gambling, though.   :(

I don't know when Retama Horse Racing opens, but that would also be fun.  We're also about 3 hrs from the beach and about 2 hrs from Austin.  ???

I can't stand las Vegas because of all the smoke.  How come you don't come to sunny Southern California where we have the good sense to ban smoking indoors?!?!?!?!?

Freemont Street works so well for those with all levels of energy.  Those of us who are slower, can easily keep up with everyone else.

  BUT, I love San Antonio and the River Walk area would be very easy for people to get around.  It has a lot to do, just meandering along,window shopping,  riding the boats,etc.  Great food, too.   I will go anywhere!

I am not fond of Vegas spent to much time in Reno in my past life, so casino's don't do much for me. Now San Antonio looks nice and May 11th is my birthday so you all could shower me with gifts while we are there...Boxman

To all members:

What do you think of a San Antonio Texas meet up in May 2009?

And Las Vegas Nevada in October 2009?

Please post your comments.

Get involved and help us make these meetings successful.

All right all you admin and moderator types, just checking up on you to make sure you are all okay. Are you up to having two meets a year? I know it is a lot of work for you... we don't want to burn you out, WE NEED YOU!
 :grouphug;  :thx;

First, I love the idea of a Las Vegas Annual Meet tradition:
1. It is cheap! Good rates on airfares, reasonable rates for the chosen hotel (El Cortez with nice big rooms) especially for Sun pm through Thurs pm, and has activities - the casino, restaurants, bars.
2. Fremont Street is user friendly - contained and altered into a pedestrian mall.
3. There is plenty to do on Fremont Street - gambling (plenty of penny ante machines), freebie shows under the covered walkway, not to mention the light show itself.
4. Close proximity to the Strip, shows, preseason basketball, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon and other outing for those wanting to see the sites. (Perhaps even an IHD charter bus someday)
Vegas was made for 'round the clock entertainment - I just loved coming downstairs in my pajamas, getting a cup of coffee and sitting down at a machine pressing that button until all of my... my... my coffee was gone. I think it would be difficult to find the same "open 24hrs a day" anywhere else. And it is Susie's place! And, hopefully Trina and Nick will be able to make it ever year.

 :cheer: Let's go Vegas for the Third Annual IHD Get-together!!! :cheer:

Second, It was nice having a second meet, this year in Chicago and next year??? San Antonio was graciously offered by KellyT. This gives the group an "on-site" representative who can help locate a cheap but nice hotel close to the freebie attractions we want to spend time at. Riverwalk, a day trip to the Alamo  :cowboy: , (Okarol, LA Lakers  at San Antonio Spurs, maybe?), and Nuevo Laredo MX is just down the road apiece! Without taking away from KellyT's kind offer, is that the consensus on where we want to hold the second meet for 2009?   I don't remember for sure, but during the voting last year wasn't Tennessee mentioned a bunch?

Finally, should there ever just be one meet a year, I vote for alternating between Las Vegas one year and somewhere else the next year (at least until everyone is burned out on Las Vegas, if burning out on Vegas is even possible).

Oh, it's totally possible to burn out on Vegas!    :rofl;

Driving out in the Texas Hill Country is also a possibility.  It's beautiful out there and the antique shops are plentiful and fun.

i like the idea of going someplace different next year. the idea of alternating between vegas and someplace else is a good one. if we are going to do 2 locations i think the 2nd location should be somewhere east-ish (is there such a word?) wherever we go, i'll be glad to help, and you can count on april (apple) and i being there with bells on, we had soooooooooooooooo much fun in vegas.
