Kitty????  "I think not little puppy"  He looks more like a TIGER, so the name suits him!

RichardMel, If I had you phone number, I would have called you last night!  You are the one person who I know will be so happy for me.  My husband gave me a kitty for Christmas!! Thanks to AlohaBeth for putting lots of hints in his head!  Beth and I went to a rescue shelter yesterday with the intention of adopting a kitty.  I wanted something tiny and maybe all white and call her Willow.   Well, after seeing, petting and playing with over 70 cats and kittens, they showed me the "special needs" cats.  One with a heart murmer, one who is having some kidney issues (!!) and one who they cannot determine if she is FIV positive or negative. The vet has tested her three times and it always comes back "undetermined".  So she can never be with other cats and needs to be an indoor cat.  Beth and I feel in love.  She is gorgeous.  Just the complete opposite of what I came for.  She is a Maine Coon and huge!  But she is so sweet, loving and calm.  She is 18 months old and lived with the same foster Mom her whole life.  She looks like a gray bobcat. From nose to tail, she is about 30".  Not the little kitty I envisioned.   She is curled up beside me right now. I can't believe how happy she has made me.  Earlier, she put her paws on my left shoulder and laid her head on my chest.  Last night, she jumped into bed with me, so I think she is accepting me.   I will post pictures.   She is one of the best Christmas presents I have ever received.   Our pets ask so little and give us so much.   :cuddle;

Rocky is too young to hibernate. My other 3 adult tortoises, Fluffy, Speedy and Tippy, all are in the garage, in Rubbermaid boxes with shredded newspaper, where they will stay until March or April.
In the wild they dig desert burrows, but the rain here might drown them, so we store them away when they stop eating - usually around mid-October.

Fascinating!  What would happen if the younger tortoise were to hibernate?  Would it harm him in some way?

I'm thinking that he doesn't have enough stored energy yet for his/her age to make it through hibernation. Since Rocky is young, maybe there matabolisim is like a human child in that they burn a lot of calories/energy for their growing body.

That's my thought, but will have to wait to see what okarol say's.

Here is pretty Willow -- Mom's (Paris's) new cat!!   She is too sweet and just the perfect little (by little I mean HUGE) cat!

We have a squirrel, Sandy (like from Spongebob!) that comes to our window for food a few times a day -- Willow loves to check her out and Sandy doesn't mind at all!  Too cute!

they do a very remarkable imitation of a 2 year old. only 2 year olds can open the door when they want to go out.
