Just to let everyone know Boxman will be going back in the hospital due to an infection in his foot. He will have to go back into the hyperbolic chamber in hopes that the wound will heal. Lets say a few extra prayers that this works to save his foot.
-
Oh no, do you know how I could send him a card? Cheryl
-
I will call him today and see which Hospital he will be at.

Boxman,
I too have almost both of my feet to ulcers. That was several years ago, the infection never made it to the bone but came very close. I was hospitalized a few times, but managed to keep off my feet and took really good care of it. I don't feel below my knees and can't remember what it was like to have sensation in my toes. I can barely move them, if I try really hard I can. So I know what you're going through! I shall be sending a goodly strong vibe your way, whereever you are out there..... Keep your feet up! and chin too! You'll get through this one!
-
We love you Boxman! :grouphug;
-
Boxman is in good spirits but disappointed in the setback. He is on IV antibiotics, a wound vac and the hyperbaric chamber. Any cards will be appreciated.

Sluff, any news on Boxman. Tell him I'm thinking about him and sending prayers. :cuddle;
-
I left him a message around 8 central time this morning but haven't heard anything. I think he was hoping to get out Sunday but I don't know if that was wishful thinking or not.
-
Good luck Boxman. Hope they get that infection under control. :bestwishes;
-
Sluff, any news on Boxman???????? Tell him we miss him and hope he feels better soon. :cuddle;
-
I just saw this thread, and I'm so disappointed for Boxman, I know how much he hates that chamber!! Box, I'm thinking of you, hope you're doing better today!
-
I just found this thread too! Oh, Boxman! I'm so sorry! You are in my thoughts and prayers. :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
Talked briefly with Boxman today. No change so they are checking the veins going down to the infected foot and are looking for a way to open them up better to increase blood flow. Boxman sounded a little down. No one likes to be cooped up in the dang hospital, but as he said he is doing whatever he can to get well. He also said he misses all of us here at IHD as much as we miss him.
Please help brighten his spirits by dropping a note in the mail. Thanks.

My card went in the mail today Sluff. Too bad he can't have a computer there.
-
Thanks for the update, Sluff. Please keep us posted.
-
I'll mail a card first thing in the morning. I miss his posts.
-
Boxman do not leave the hospital without the card I sent you............it has music.........
-
Hey, the least you coulda done was send yourself with that card to twirl to the music....then post a video. :thumbup;
-
Box -- Did you get twirl's card? Are you feeling better? Are you home yet? I've missed you and your posts. I hope you're okay.
-
oh yes, let's place on Funniest Home Videos
-
Thanks Sluff for keeping us updated on Boxman. I'll keep saying healing prayers.
-
Boxman, hurry I'm saving this very difficult trivia question for you and I am going to forget the answer......... :-\
-
Thank you all for your well wishes. They let me come home for the weekend. I have a big choice to make on Monday the 5th I have to either have almost all of the rest of my foot cut off or have a below the knee amputation. With the long process I have gone through trying to heal the first amputation, I am leaning toward the below the knee because it will allow me to heal faster, get a prothesis and eventually walk again.I will try and keep you posted...Boxman
-
I tend to agree, Boxman. Just taking the rest of the foot may be a "band aid" solution. BTW, it's great to see your smilin' face back on here.
-
Oh Boxman, I'm am so terribly sorry that you are going through all this. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. :cuddle; It's nice they let you have a weekend pass so to speak, we've missed you. Please know that we will all be waiting to hear how you are. :-*
-
:yahoo; you are back for a little while :yahoo; I am so glad to hear from you again.......
I am having surgery next week also so now you need to give me words of encouragement
I know you will make the right decision about your leg.
I will keep you in my thoughts
Boxman, it's got to be hard, wish I knew something magic to say but all I can say is I care and my thoughts are with you
I am saving a difficult trivia question to spring on you when we are both back and feel better
you will never find the answer :rofl; :rofl;
please be alright
Cheryl
-
Great to see you Boxman, I'm sorry you are faced with such a tough decision. I agree with your reasoning. If you need anything please call me. :grouphug;
-
Boxman, I am sorry. You have fought so hard. I hate that you have to make the decision. I will say lots of prayers this weekend for you to have strength to face what is ahead. You are strong and can get through this too. We are all here for you and will do anything we can. :grouphug;
-
I'm so sorry to hear that news and the awful decision you have to make. All my best healing thoughts are with you and we want you back here full-time.
Gail
-
Boxman so sorry you are going thru this. :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
So good that they let you come home for the weekend! The decision--you will make the right one. So sorry to hear that you have to make that decision, though. My good thoughts are with you.
-
So sorry to hear this, Boxman. This sounds awfully hard. I'll be thinking about you and pulling for you.
-
What a choice to have to make, but I think you know what is best for you. None of us can help but we can all send prayers, good wishes, positive thoughts or whatever - I'll be sending all of those and a lot of love and hugs :cuddle;. Like everyone, I wish I could make it better for you. All I can say is look at Ohio Buckeye, she is doing really well with her new leg, I hope that will give you some small comfort. xx
-
Boxman... I am thinking of you
Kim

Heaps of hugs for ya Boxman

I was so happy to see that you had posted. Then sorry to hear about the decision you had to make. But i feel the strength of your spirit and I know you will get through this. We are survivors!! My caring thoughts and prayers are with you. :cuddle;
-
If it isn't one thing it is another with us. Boxman I hope you have a quick recovery from whichever you decide to do. :grouphug;
If you need some encouragement or someone to talk to after the amputation, Victor and I are here. He has had the below the knee amputation. He has personal experience with the recovery and learning to walk again.
-
So sorry Boxman - you've been through so much to heal that foot - this must be very difficult.
Take care - we miss ya - hope all goes ok. :cuddle;
-
Hang in there, Boxman. Sorry you have to go through such a difficult time. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
Adam
-
Boxman
I can't say in words how sorry I am that you are going through this.
Words just seem inadequate.
It is hard to be faced with such a decision.
I struggled with my foot for 18 mos. and I had bone infection so did not have much choice.
The struggle and the pain wears one down and I just wanted to be able to get on with life again.
It has been a long road and I still have a long way to go yet.
I just got my temporary prosthesis. I start therapy next week.
It is good to have 2 shoes and 2 socks on again.
There is a national limb loss organization, phone - 1-888-267-5669, I called them and they sent me out a packet
of very helpful infor. on prosthesis, support groups, etc. They have amputees available to visit new amputees to answer questions, etc. if one wishes.
They send out the In Motion magazines which are good to read.
I did not learn about them til about 3 mos. after my amputation.
I wish I had known about them while I was in the hospital.
I will be praying for you as you make your decision. I am glad you got home for the weekend anyway.
God will grant you strength I know.
-
:grouphug;
Sending some good thoughts your way, boxman.
-
OB, thank you for the phone number. I don't really have a choice but I just can't get it past my head. It is hard...Boxman
-
I wish you well, :grouphug; :cuddle; :cuddle; :grouphug; sorry you have to go through this pain.
-
I'm so sorry to hear about this difficult decision you have to make.
If it means you can walk again, I think your idea about amputation below the knee makes sense.
I sure wish you didn't have to make this decision, but since you do, it sounds like your medical care providers are doing a very good job for you.
Get better soon. I will be sending good thoughts your way.
-
It is so hard Boxman.
A part of our body. I still look at my leg with unbelief sometimes. can't believe it happened.
When I thought it was going to be my toes I had a love affair with my toes.
Then it became a below the knee amp.
The docs say it is a real advantage to have your own knee.
Whatever amp you do they keeo you comfortable.
They gave me a little button to push with pain med in it.
Sometimes that wasn't enough and I asked for more and got a shot.
To get through it mentally you have to look ahead and see and think of the things you want to do again, walk, etc.
Think about what you will be able to do, not what you can't do temporarily.
When I got my amp my sister was in tears and I was dry eyed thinking about what I wanted to do again.
I told the prothesist I wanted to walk, drive, do steps and walk on uneven outside ground to play with my grandson.
He said that was possible. It will be for you too and more if you want.
You will find people with prosthesists running in marathons, dancing and all kinds of activities.
My prosthesist told me that prosthesisis have come along way because of the war. There have
been many improvements in them.
I'm sure if you call that phone number and ask for the packet of info. you will find something there helpful.
I was surprised at how large of a packet it is.
I wish I lived close to you. You are so much in my thoughts and prayers.
Oho Buckeye
-
Boxman, we are so sorry that you have not been able to heal your foot. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Rolando too has had to make that choice (in his case his leg or his life). As horrible a thing as it is to lose a limb, there is a bright spot. Since he was no longer fighting infection, he found that physically he felt much better post amputation. I don't know if that is universal but I hope so. Let it serve as a little boost along your road to walk again. Maybe OB will comment.
:grouphug;
-
OB, thanks again you are part of my strength
Boxman
-
:waving; Boxman, wish you didn't have things so hard. Sounds like the doctors have tried their best. I pray for your strength getting through this. take care
-
Yes, that is true Aharris2.
It is good to be off of pain meds after being on so many for so long that didn't help a whole lot.
The last couple of months is the first time I've been pain freeiwith no pain meds n like 18 mos.
That in itself makes one feel a whole lot beter.
Before amputation I got very little sleep as I was always in too much pain.
My blood count improved also.
I was struggling to keep it high enough and the last 3 mos or so it has been real good.
They said it was because I wasn't fighting infection.
It is a long hard painful struggle trying to save a limb.
If you lose that struggle you have to decide whether to give up or press on.
You can choose to press on and still enjoy life.
-
I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. Whatever you decide I hope that you heal quickly and feel better than you did before. <3
-
Guess Boxman and OB will be dancing in Chicago instead of me and OB. Why does this always happen to me? :) Boxman I'm only two hours from you if you need anything please call. Take care Buddy. :waving;
-
I thought about what I would decide if I had to make this decision, Boxman. I too, have poor circulation and have dealt with a few infections on my feet before. As a result of the nerve damage, I have no feeling below my knees. I know it is only a matter of time that I may have to deal with amputation. I would most likely want to have a prosthetic if this were my decision.
I shall be praying for you in this time of healing... It sucks the big fat one that this is happening. I feel devastated for you. You are a strong man, and this big bump in your journey will make you much more stronger! Stay cool cooly cat.
-
Boxman, I am so sorry you have to deal with this. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers until you let us know how things have gone, and after that as you recover, of course! :cuddle;
-
Boxman, I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this, it definitely isn't fair. Please know you my thoughts and I wish you strength, hope, love and courage with this difficult process you are going through. Know that we are all here rooting for you. :grouphug;
-
Boxman...you're in my thoughts today. It's unfair that we are so often presented two equally lousy choices, but know you aren't alone though this. Stay positive and stay strong and know we're all with you.
-
I'm thinking of you Boxman, although you are probably not reading this today as it is the day of your decision. You will get through this, we are all here for you and saying prayers for you. The people on here are such a caring group, you know we will do what we can to help carry you through, sometimes that is only possible through thought and prayer as we are so widespread. Sending love your way. :grouphug;
-
I thought it was today also for the decision. Thinking of you Boxman.
-
Boxman, I thought about you most of the day. We'll continue praying. We miss you. :cuddle;
-
Well I called 4 times today with no call back. It really sucks to make a call to have your leg amputated and get no return call. The last time I called at 5:30 I was told to call back tomorrow. What a bunch of shit...Boxman
-
Boxman it is a bunch of shit and you deserve better, much better they ever heard of compassion
sorry, people can really suck
-
Well I called 4 times today with no call back. It really sucks to make a call to have your leg amputated and get no return call. The last time I called at 5:30 I was told to call back tomorrow. What a bunch of shit...Boxman
Total BullSh*# Boxman.
-
I'm on my computer in tears, Boxman, this is an outrage.... life is hard enough without F'ers like that
-
All I have to say is WTF. :boxing; :Kit n Stik;
-
Oh, Boxman, I'm a little late learning about what you're going through now. Good grief. I can't tell you how sorry I am that you're having to deal with this. Wish I had some magical words of wisdom. I don't. As everybody else has said, though, you're in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that helps a little.
Pat
-
We are still with you all the way. You continue to be in our caring thoughts and prayers. :grouphug;
-
Boxman have been thinking of you all day and now you have to wait another day. Maybe we need to come there and :boxing; for ya xoxox :grouphug;
-
Boxman,
I've been think of you and praying for you... hang in there :grouphug;
Mikey
-
Sorry Boxman, this has been a horrible day for you. There is no excuse for putting you through this. :grouphug;
-
How strange.
I wish I knew what to say. I'm sorry. That would be hard to deal with.
Goofynina would say God's timing is best.
-
What a disgrace, as if life isn't hard enough for you at the moment. Wish we could help :grouphug;
-
:urcrazy; Someone effed up. Hope tomorrow is better Box!
-
Well I called 4 times today with no call back. It really sucks to make a call to have your leg amputated and get no return call. The last time I called at 5:30 I was told to call back tomorrow. What a bunch of shit...Boxman
UGH. That is so horrible. Doctors make me so angry sometimes. WE ARE PEOPLE. These are our lives. I'm so sorry you had to deal with this crap today. My thoughts are with you. :banghead;
-
I feel for you Boxman and just sitting by the damn phone waiting really sucks. (unless she is 5'3" red hair blue eyes 110# and wants you) :rofl; :oops; did I type that out loud?
-
Well I decided to call the first surgeon I dealt with who did my toe amps along with the new one down at St Lukes where I had the hyperbaric treatment (he was the one with no call back yesterday). Well they both called this morning and I have an appt at 2:30 today with my toe surgeon and the other guys nurse is suppose to call me back with their schedule. It sounds confusing, but the hospital that my toe surgeon works out of is closer to home then the other. Which would help my family and friends so I am leaning to switch and go back to my original surgeon. I will have schedules later today I think...Boxman Hope this makes sense
-
glad to hear you at least got to talk to someone. maybe things will start to move forward. although i'm sure it still isn't easy. personally i think i'd go with the doctor you had previous experience with. the hospital being closer to home can't hurt. just remember we're all pulling for you, you are very important to all of us. :grouphug;
-
Man, somehow I've missed reading this thread for a while. I'm soooo sorry about having to have made this decision boxman. I saw a neighbor from back in Maryland have to make this same decision a few years back. I understand how traumatic it is. You're a strong person, so I know you'll do fine! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
Glad they got back to you, at least you are making some headway. :thumbup;
-
First of all I want to thank you all for the get well cards. I just recieved (6) of them in the mail forwarded to my house from the hospital. It means a lot. The surgeon wants me to talk to the vascular guy one last time on Friday to discuss any possibility of doing more vein work before I make my decision. So I will wait till then. Again thanks for the cards it made my afternoon recieving them all...Boxman
-
BIG :grouphug; to you Boxman
EDITED: Fixed smiley tag error-kitkatz
-
Boxman, wishing you the best. :grouphug;
-
Wow, Boxman, it would be great if they could do more vein work and save your leg.
Maybe it's a good thing the one didn't cal you back and you called the original surgeon.
Time will tell. But waiting is awful.
Wishing you all the best.
-
Wishing you all the best, as always :grouphug;
-
Maybe there is some hope yet to save the leg/foot. I hope so.
-
Encouraging news. Hope everything works out in your favour. My caring thoughts and prayers are still with you all the way.
-
Boxman, still praying for a good resolution. We are all here for you. :grouphug;
-
Any word on how Boxman is doing lately with his foot?
-
That's some good news boxman. See, there's a reason for everything that happens (or doesn't happen). Them not calling you back was a good thing! :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
Boxman, I hope you have a good vascular guy. Mine's name is Dr. Dick...no kidding...when I woke up after my fistual surgery, I asked my wife if Dr. Dick was happy...she said he was...I said "well a happy Dick is a good Dick" and laughed hysterically.
Guess that has nothing to do with anything, but he IS a very good vascular surgeon. :rofl;
-
Hope all goes really well for you, Boxman!
-
Well I met with the vascular surgeon today to discuss the possibility of getting more blood flow done to the foot
His opinion was, no matter how he does the operation, I could expect another 30% flow at most. He was not optimistic that would be enough
and Dr. Calbatta conquered (who is a surgeon also) It would mean continuous treatment everyday to try and heal
it with no quarantee that it would last even a year. So as hard as it is to grasp for me I have decided to have the below
the knee amputation and hopefully be able to heal and attempt a prothesis. The surgeon was very confident that I would have the blood flow for this.
It is scheduled for next Friday at Columbia-Ozaukee thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and keep them coming...Mark
-
Wishing you onlt the best
-
Gee Mark, what a rollercoaster you've been on. Now that the decision is made I wish you all the best and will keep you in my thoughts as you take on this new challenge.
Gail
-
i'm glad that you finally have a decision. now that it's out of the way you just might find things easier to grasp. i'll be thinking of you. :cuddle;
-
:cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
I'm sorry Boxman.
If you have any questions I will try to answer if I can.
Be sure to call the national limb loss organization for info. I know you will find something that is useful.
I will certainly keep you in thought and in my prayers.
-
:cuddle; Boxman
I pray all goes well!
-
I wish you the best Mark.
-
Oh Boxman, I am so sorry. No words can express how much I hate that this is happening. I was really hoping things would be different. We love you and will keep saying lots of prayers for acceptance and then for healing. :cuddle;
-
Just a small hurdle, Mark. Keep your spirits up and take a little swig of Kentucky Bourbon when you feel down. You will persevere.
-
:grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
Plenty of hugs for you boxman, seems with the info you got off the vascular surgeon it's the way to go. Knowing that it may only last a year and then you would be going through all this again. Now all your thoughts can go into dealing with the op and healing as fast as you can, so you can come and attack all the ihd members as quick as you can
Thinkin of ya
Tamara xxx ooo :grouphug; :thx; :grouphug; :cuddle; :waving;
-
That is quite the decision Mark. I wish you all the best with this next part of your journey... Life is going to be different with this immense change. Remember you will always have all the support you need. Keep your chin up, you can make it through this stormy weather. Stay cool cooly cat.
A goodly strong vibe is being sent your way...
-
Sending love and prayers your way Mark, it has been a horrendous decision for you, but by this time next year you will be back on 2 feet and going well rather than looking at this all over again. Let OB be your inspiration, we are all proud of what she has achieved and you can do it too. Lots of love and hugs, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers particularly on Friday. :grouphug;
-
best of luck my friend :2thumbsup;
-
Mark, :cuddle; your post made me :'( :'(. I'm so sorry, I was praying for a miracle. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug;

Hard to make such a decision. Now that it's made, I wish you all the best in going forward. :cuddle;
-
:2thumbsup; :beer1; May the Gods be with you, Box.
-
We're all here for you, dude :grouphug;
-
I am frequently awed by the courage that I see in the face of great adversity - too often, too much adversity. Boxman, this time it is you. You don't need me to tell you that you will rise above this, you already know it!
:grouphug;
-
Courage my friend, courage. Lots of hope and well wishes are coming your way!
-
:grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
My thoughts are with you. <3 :grouphug;
-
well I found out that the surgery will be at 10am Friday the 16th I listed the hospital in an earlier post. I should be there for 3-4 days then be moved to a rehab facility which I don't know what facility that will be just yet. I could be at that place for 4-6 weeks. I will post more when I know. It is coming up fast :( Boxman

Thinking of you, Boxman. :cuddle; :grouphug;
-
Are you going to have family there on Friday Box?
-
yes sir, My Dad and a sister and brother along with a few friends
-
:grouphug;
Best Wishes Buddy!
-
Another challenge. But I am convinced of the strength of the human spirit. And you have that strength, Mark. My caring thoughts and prayers are with you all the way from the Caribbean. You will conquer even in this!
You are in great company - Ohio Buckeye, Victor (Kitkatz'' husband) - they have conquered in this.
-
I'm sorry it has to come to this, Box. Many thoughts and prayers will be going your way on Friday :grouphug;
-
You know I will be thinking about you and praying for you Boxman.
It is probably a good thing to be going to a rehab center for a while.
They will get you up and going and you'd probably get more therapy there.
Look forward to getting this behind you and healing and getting that prosthesis.
If you have any questions or anything I can help with let me know.
-
yes sir, My Dad and a sister and brother along with a few friends
Great, good luck. We are rooting for you.
-
It is going to feel like "oh F*** what did I do"? But slowly you will come up out of the pain and begin to recover. Take the rehab slowly and do whatever you can do. Remember you are only a PM or email away from instant support.
-
'just remember we love you and it will be alright!!!!!eventually!!! :-*

The surgery will take place at 10am Friday the 16th and should last about 2 hours. I will then be moved to a recovery room for a hour or so then into the
a hospital room. I was told I would be at St Mary's-Ozaukee-Mequon, WI 553092 for 3-4 days. After that I will head to Cedar Springs
Rehab Facility This stay could last up to 4 weeks maybe more. Wish me luck and come by and visit. I am a sucker for contraband....Mark

contraband is defined as anything and everything that a hospital doesn't approve of. Food, Drink, you name it this would be at the rehab center not the hospital easier to get away with. Today is my last day I have a ton to do. Will talk to you from the other side...Boxman

Update:
Vicky (sister in law) visited Mark from 4 to 6:30 PM. Mark was talking the whole time and was very alert. He is surprised at how he is emotionally handling the whole situation so positively. He has a good appetite. The pain is so far manageable. It comes in spurts.
The surgeon had said "He could not be happier with how the surgery went, and there were no surprises". "Mark will do great". He assured Vicky that there was good blood flow. The surgeon took off less than Mark thought he would.
Mark will be in the hospital most likely until Tuesday or Wednesday.
-
Glad to hear it went well. Get well soon Boxman. We miss you :cuddle;
-
Great news, Sluff. :bandance; :2thumbsup;

I received another email saying Mark is doing well and he is on a morphine drip for pain. He is in good spirits. I'm thinking of calling him today and maybe going to see him Monday, depending on my work schedule.

-
I just talked to Boxman but had a lousy connection. he is doing well and the surgeon said everything went better than expected and they did not have to remove as much as they first figured. They already had him standing up and his comment to that was "It was brutal" They plan on moving him Tuesday or Wednesday to Cedar Springs for Re-hab. ( too much contraband huh?) :rofl;
-
Thanks so much for the updates, Sluff. I'm so glad things are going well and Boxman is up to his usual.
-
:2thumbsup; Morphine!

-
Sluff, please pass on my good wishes to Mark.
-
I will if I can make it down.
-
Hi all,
Mark is doing better today. Less pain and he is now on pain pills every 4 hours instead of IV drip for pain every 10 minutes. He did have a fever of 101 today but they controlled that in a few hours.
He is in good spirits although feisty with the nurses--he keeps them in line! He has caught them screwing up a few times with IV drip (potassium drip when he can not have it) and low blood sugar- did not respond properly. He was able to get out of bed today and sit in a chair for a few hours.
In hospital probably until Tuesday and will be moved to a rehab care facility were he will spend 4 to 6 weeks.
-
Thanks Sluffbunny. If you have the address for the rehab centre please let us know, I'd like to send a card but it takes ages from the UK so would miss Mark in hospital, but if he's there for a few weeks then it should arrive.
Here's a bunny just for you to say thanks for keeping us in touch :bunny:
-
I'll post it as soon as I get it.
Here is the address but hold on til i get his room number and make sure this is the right place.

Any news on Boxman?
-
Yea Sluff, please tell Boxman we miss him and wish him the best. :cuddle;
-
Not yet. But I will try.
-
I spoke with Boxman today and he is doing well in rehab. He said they have no Internet access at all but he will be there another 3-4 weeks yet. He sends his Love to everyone.
-
Thanks Sluff.
Do we need a room number to mail him something?
-
I forgot to ask him the room number.
-
I don't have a printer, but maybe some one could print out some posts and send them. Just a thought.
-
Thanks Sluff.
Good idea Bolta.
Love you Boxman and miss you!
-
:cuddle; Thinking about you Boxman.
-
I visited Boxman today and he is looking great and seems to be in great spirits. Ohio Buckeye, Rolondo, and Victor, Boxman says you are his inspiration and that is what keeps his attitude and his spirit alive. Thanks to all those who have sent him encouraging messages. He is using a scooter chair to get around and is already scouting out the fish pond at the rehab center. I printed out all the messages since Boxman last posted and although he hasn't read them while I was there, he was happy that I did that for him. Thanks for the suggestion Bolta and Rose99.
No pictures this trip, but a very encouraging visit. I signed his cast, We Love You IHD

:clap; Great report Sluff, I hope he keeps getting better everyday!
:-* Love you Box!
-
Thanks Sluff. One of the best things about this site is that no matter what we are going through, someone else has been there and can walk beside us. Rolando and Victor helped Ohio Buckeye and now the three of them are an inspiration for Mark. Some of the finest people I have ever known are right here at IHD :grouphug;
Boxman, I keep saying prayers. You have such an incredible spirit and determination. Proud to know you! :cuddle;
-
Paris don't forget how important your spirit is to many of us here at IHD. I could never say enough good about a lot of the members here and you are at the top of the list. :) You may even be above Beth. ::) Love ya both.
-
So glad to hear how those wonderful IHD members have been an encouragement to Boxman. So great to have news from him from someone who has actually seen him. :thumbup; And Fluffbunny, once again you are there to represent IHD and pass on our love. You need a hug yourself. :cuddle;

I just sent Boxman a card, I hope he's healing and getting stronger every day!
-
I talked to him on the phone and he is doing well. Next Tuesday he gets the large cast off and gets a smaller removable one and Wednesday they do a home visit to see how his living arrangements will be. Roommate is moving upstairs so Boxman won't have to do the steps.
-
I sent him a card this week, thought it might lift his spirits to get one from the UK. :)
Thanks Sluffbunny for keeping us in touch, as always please pass on our love & best wishes when you speak.

Here is the latest news.
Hi all,
Mark had a new cast put on yesterday. 2 weeks with the old one. This new cast is a lot lighter in weight. It is even a dark blue color. He had a choice of colors. He did not want hot pink. He figures he will have this cast on for 2 weeks and then it will be shed. Next comes the prosthesis to be fitted.
He was able to go home today, just during the day, to meet with the rehab person to figure out what aides he will need to maneuver around the house when he is let go from the rehab center.
The doctor did tell Mark that he could possibly go home in a week if he is up to it and the house is ready for him. Ramp has to be built, walking aides are available, etc.
Mark has a wonderful disposition and seems up to the challenges that lie ahead.
-
:2thumbsup; That's great news - I am so happy to hear he's moving forward and healing. Thanks Sluff!
-
:thx; Sluff.
-
:2thumbsup; Good on on you Mark, stick at it. :thx; Sluff for keeping us updated.
-
Thats wonderful news. I think he should have gone for the hot pink tho!
Thank you Sluff!
-
He's an inspiration.
-
I am glad he is doing well and may be home soon.
I am jealous tho. It took me from Nov. to April to get fitted because I healed so slowly.
I better get a move on or he'll pass me up. ;D
-
Boxman we MISS you, I'm glad things seem to be going good for you. :grouphug;
-
I spoke to Boxman tonight and he is doing really well! He says the lightweight cast is still hard to sleep with, but better than the first one. He's been off pain meds except he occasionally takes something when he's had a tough physical therapy session, but in general he's feeling good. He has a motorized chair that had been his mom's so he's able to get out a bit. He and some friends figured out how he could get across the railroad tracks without getting stuck, so he can actually make it to Starbucks and some other shops nearby. He said it looks like he will be able to go home next Friday. He's had some ramps installed and it sounds like his home will be ready for him. He said he has received cards from some of our members, with some "contraband" and candy and even greetings from Australia. He is very grateful and wanted to let everyone know he hopes to be back online soon, he misses everyone and is ready to get back to moderating (yay!)
:clap; :2thumbsup; :yahoo;
-
Hey Box, glad to hear you're doing so good. Sent you a card, hope it gets there before you go home.
Take it easy and know that we are thinking of you.
Love, Mimi

:2thumbsup;
-
My thoughts are with you Box
I hope your rehabilitation goes well
Thanks to you all who have been keeping in touch with Boxman and updating us it is appreciated.
-
I've been thinking about Boxman a lot lately. I wasn't able to go get him a card but he has been in my prayers and I can't wait to see him posting again. You take care Boxman. :grouphug;
-
Hi all I made it back home today. Man it feels good to be home. I am getting around with manual and electric wheel chairs and a walker. I still have a cast on the leg but it comes off Tuesday of next week. Depending on how the leg is healing will determine the next step. I received all your cards and gifts. It means a whole lot to me that you all care so much. The cards and gifts I got from Australia.Canada and the UK where a hit with all the nurses aides. They couldn't believe that I knew all you guys. Boxman
-
Good to have you back home!
:beer1;
-
:yahoo; Boxman, so glad you're back -- at home AND at IHD! You have been missed! :grouphug;

Oh boy Boxman, I'm sure glad you are home. I hope my card got to you before you left the hospital.
I know this has been a rough time for you, but to hear you tell it, it was a piece of cake.
You got lots of courage, my boy, and my prayers are with you.
Love, Mimi

Glad you got back home Boxman.
It is always so good to get home.
Sounds like you are doing well.
Have been thinking about you.
We missed you.
-
Hi all, thanks again for all your well wishes, they mean a lot. Right now it is difficult to get to my computer because it
is still upstairs. I have to go up backwards dragging a walker with me, then when I get to the top of the stairs, I have to pull myself upright and use the walker to hop over to the computer chair. It is an adventure. I hope to have it moved downstairs soon. I am glad to be back on IHD ...Boxman
-
Hi Mark
Glad you're home and I wish you all the best with the rest of the rehab process.
-
Oh man! Upstairs and downstairs? That will be a pain until you get back on your feet and rehabbed a little more. Please be careful. The only time Victor has fallen was in the hospital with nurses helping him up out of bed. And then once when he did not set the brakes on the wheelchair and it went out from under him. You will find stairs, curbs and ramps are hard to navigate.
-
I hear you Kitkatz, getting up one or two stairs is very difficult, hopping on one leg to the next stair takes a lot of strength and balance, just hopping with the walker across the room takes a lot out of you, I go up the stairs on my butt to get to the computer,there is no way I could do it upright, but you gotta do what ya gotta do...Boxman
-
Glad you are home Mark! There's nothing like sleeping in your own bed.
-
Wow, you are doing great Boxman.
At therapy they have me now doing small steps.
It is something how one can find new ways to do things when they have to.
I could not hop with or without the walker. Not at all.

Hi OB, thanks for all your kind advice. This is an adventure, rehab taught me a few things but your right, hopping up a step to get on a porch or whatever is very difficult and takes some strength and balance. I have one of those little electric chairs so I get around the house and out one the driveway real easy. The cast is coming off Tuesday and I also have my first outpatient rehab on that day too. I am not having any pain. Kept posting your journey with this I can always use the info...Boxman
-
Welcome back buddy. :beer1;
-
I'm truly overjoyed at your progress! :clap; Glad you are home. It is always a pleasure when I see that you have posted something. And much more now as I realize how much you have to go through to be able to use your computer. Lots of caring thoughts and prayers are with you. Looking forward to hearing how you are doing. :cuddle;
-
You're lucky. I didn't get an electric wheelchair but a manual one.
It seems like an electric one would be hard to load in a car when going somewhere.
Or do you have a lightweight one for that kind of use?
I asked for an ultra lightweight to make it easier fo friends to get it in their
car or van and the insurance wouldn't approve it. said I needed one if I
could not use regular one, not to make it easier for people to transport.
-
OMG.. Mark - Boxman.. You are back!!!!... :yahoo;
I was just getting to know you and all that happened..
Sooo soooo very thrilled to see you back on the site.
:bandance; :bandance; :bandance; :bandance;

I am so glad to hear you are home sweet home again Boxman! I shall be sending more healing vibes your way... Stay strong.
-
You are amazing! It is great to see you post. You are so important to all of us here. You are greatly missed. :grouphug;
-
I missed this thread, probably because there is way too many posts for me to catch up on when i miss logging in more than once a day!
I am so sorry you had to go through all this, but I am glad your handling it well and are back home. Much love! :grouphug;
-
well today was Doctor day and off came the cast. he removed the remaining stables and said it looked really good, (if a leg witout a foot can) no just kidding, the healing is going well. Also the prothesis guy was there and he thought it was coming around also. So now I have to be very careful not to bang or bump the wound and when the scabs are gone (estimated 2 weeks) I will be measured for a leg/foot and according to the Doctor and the Prothesis guy will have it on in a month. Which is way cool specially if you can remember how long I battled with the toe amputations (3-1/2 months) It has only been a little over a month since the leg amp and I feel 100% better whereas fighting the toe amputations I felt like shit all the time. So there you have it I am working on bending my knee because it was straight for a month, its getting there
-
Wow, it sounds like you are doing really well. Keep up the good healing!
-
Glad you are doing so well Box. :waving;
-
good to see all is healing and should all be happening soon with the new sexy leg you ! ;)

You're doing so well, I'm sure your positive attitude is helping. Hope to see pics of you with your new leg before the summer is over :)

:thumbup; Boxman. And keep up the good work.

So glad your healing so well.

Good to hear Boxman, I know you must miss your foot, but hearing that you're feeling better overall is a relief.
You did all you could for those toes! I hope you get stronger everyday!
:2thumbsup;
-
Glad to hear the healing is going so well. Keep on keepin' on Boxman!!!
-
Glad you are doing well. :thumbup; :yahoo;

You guys are great, Thanks.. I signed up for public transportation, I can go anywhere in the county for 3.25 one way

Well Mark I had a bad feeling about the card I tried to send from the start. Sure enough here it comes back today
with Return to Sender - not known- unable to forward. So there you go, the story of my life. Just can't quite make it. Anyway you know I tried. Thanksgiving is going up for your speedy recovery and prayers that all
will continue going well. Take care of yourself.

Boxman,
I haven't posted in a while but I've been thinnking about you. I'm glad to hear you are doing so well! :2thumbsup;
-
Good solution for transportation. Sounds like it will work well for your needs.
Have fun at the game. Hope your first big outing since surgery goes nicely.
-
It did Sunny and I am doing it again on July 10th with my Dad. Also the prothesis guy is coming by tomorrow to measure up my leg. Then it will take about two weeks to build it. I am getting around ok in the chair but I can't wait for the prothesis...Boxman
-
You are amazing! You live your life to the fullest and set such a high example for the rest of us. Many would not even want to get out of bed, but not you! Take me out to the ball game :2thumbsup; :2thumbsup; You are very inspiring! :grouphug;

Just sending you a little :waving;

Boxman, not only are you doing great, but you actually root for a winning team! Try being from Cincinnati! :rofl;
Take care of yourself and keep on getting better...you're inspiring to all of us!
-
i get my resolve from OB, she is the inspiring one, but thank you...Boxman
-
Both you AND OB are inspiring!
-
I agree with Annabanana - :2thumbsup; you are both inspiring and we are all so proud of both of you. Isn't it great to see Annabanana post again too :yahoo;
-
Oh you are all just too kind, but thanks.
Wow, you are lucky Boxman, it took me from Nov.-April to heal enough to get fitted
for the prosthesis. He said it was because of being diabetic and I suppose being on dialysis
didn't hellp. You'll be up and moving in record time.
-
I still have a few scabs that have to drop off before we put the thing on but half the leg is ready and the other half still is not but getting there...Boxman
PS: on the 17th I will be switching over from dsl to cable hope there is no proplems
-
went and saw the surgeon on Tuesday, he said the leg is good to start messing around with the prothesis next week, then start therapy with it the week of 7/28. it took exactly 2 months for it to completely heal as compared to the 3 months of hell dealing with the foot before the amputation of it...Boxman
-
Looks like you made the best choice for your situation. Good for you and I hope the training goes well.
-
Boxman
you are in my thoughts all the time
proud of you and proud to know you
you are so cool it is almost like you are a Texan
-
:2thumbsup; Boxman :2thumbsup;
-
Good stuff. Keep us updated on how it all goes.
-
:thumbup; Great progress Box! I am happy to hear it!
-
glad to hear all is still going well. keep up the good work
-
So pleased with your progress. We have some real role models in our IHD family. Just keep on keeping on!!!! :cuddle;
-
Must feel good to know that you are headed in the right direction! I'm happy to hear that everything has healed up and is ready to go.
So, I guess I've forgotten... is the prosthesis already made and ready to go? Do they have to do adjustments? I kind of, sort of, remember seeing a NOVA special or something like that on PBS years ago about how far they've come on the foot part of the prosthesis in terms of make it functionally correct. They must be light years from there by now.
Please keep us posted on your progress.

So good to hear you are doing well. Hey, I never asked, but did you get any winners on those scratchers I sent you? Hope you did get them. Don't worry, I won't ask for a cut if you did win! lol :cuddle;

No I'am not putting my foot in my mouth again, just wanted to update you all. This morning the guy came over with my new leg and foot to have my try it on and make
adjustments. I walked with it with the help of a walker, but it was very cool to just stand up. He will bring the final unit back in a week then I
will start therapy with it. It felt good wearing it but my balance is a little off yet. Will work on that.
Sorry ODAT I didn't win anything but thank you for your card and thoughts

:yahoo; Mark, really cool that you were able to walk, it will take a while to get your balance but if anyone can do it you will. You and OB are inspirational, god bless you both :grouphug;

Wow, good to hear that things are progressing to the point of prosthetic. You'll be walking in no time. And back fishing shortly after that I hope.

Be sure to make them adjust that leg until it fits you correctly and you can use it. We are undergoing changes to Victor's leg as it still heals from the trauma.

I am so proud of you. :2thumbsup; :clap;
My sister's husband became a couch potato when he had his amputation. He had a prosthesis, but he hardly ever tried to walk anymore than from his room (they built a bedroom downstairs because of his situation) (with a walker) to the tv room and there he had breakfast, then lunch, then dinner! My sister took him on a cruise and had to wheel him around.

Miss you in Chcago Boxman but soon we will go fishing, keep up the good work.
