Myself, I am a SJ Sharks fan!!! :clap; I try to attend at least 1 home game per month, and watch all the televised games. I've gone to 2 player signings this year (Bernier & Pavelski), and the next one is next week (Rissmiller). While standing in line at the Bernier signing, I got to meet Cheechoo, Clowe, and Grier. There was a Sharks players get-together that afternoon, and those of us at the front of the line saw the guys approaching the building on their way in! :bandance;
Love an NHL team? Who's your team?! :yahoo;
-
C'mon . . . no hockey fans out there?!!! (Don't be shy . . . I won't bite ya!)
-
My team is Toronto, I know I know they never win,,,, blah blah blahl yadda yadda yadda!!! You wait till next year :)
-
:waving; Nice to meet you, fellow hockey fan!
I've not had the pleasure of seeing Toronto play us this year. Apparently, your boys came to town on Jan. 12th. I had just been to the Calgary game on 1/3 and was gearing up for Dallas on 1/17. I do believe I watched the Toronto game on tv!
At least you aren't "last" in the Eastern Division . . . (cough cough - Tampa . . . )
Charlene
PS Keep up the team spirit! :canadaflag;
-
I am a hockey fan as well. I really like Toronto, kinda like Dallas, and will watch the Hawks since they are the local team. I am really a Eddie Belfour fan though. Unfortunately he didn't sign with an NHL team this year and is playing on a Swedish team, Arghhhh >:( .
-
Hiya Hawkeye! :waving;
Nice to meet you, too, fellow hockey fan!
I like Dallas, as well. A very good friend of mine lives in Dallas and is a die-hard Stars fan. We have a lot of fun e-mailing back and forth when those teams face-off.
I did go to the Blackhawks game last Saturday afternoon. Your boys gave us a run for our money.
Thank goodness for Roenick's shoot-out goal! (not rubbing it in, mind you . . . )
My husband's family hails from Illinois, so I kinda have a soft spot for the Chicago team.
Glad you responded - I'll be thinking about you when Sharks vs Hawks next month on your turf!
Charlene
-
Anaheim! I go to a few games every year... I went to a few playoff games too.
It's only the greatest sport on the face of the earth! :beer1;
-
I'm kinda new to the sport. My son has played and been a fan for years and this year towards the end of the season I started to catch his fever and began watching Stars games (we live near Dallas). Now I can actually almost keep up with the puck! I'm looking forward to the new season starting...but not as much as football (Cowboys play first preseason game next Saturday night!) :cowboy:
-
hockey? is that played on ice :rofl;
football is hockey in Texas
Dallas Cowboys
Texas A&M
Conroe Tigers
(was UT until son turned Aggie on us)
he starts is l05 2 a days today
-
Twirl,
What's your son's position and number? I'll watch for him.
I have a feeling the Cowboys are gonna show 'em how it's done this season!
(Sorry all, us Texans should start our own football topic, huh?) :yahoo;
-
So glad you responded Hope, PD wife and Twirl! I knew there were more hockey fans out there!
Yes, I've been told by my friend in Dallas that football is the dominant sport out in your state.
(I was nearly in tears when your boys from the Big D beat us in our last play-off game - whew- that was a longgg game! But, I have a lot of respect for Dallas.)
I agree w/ Hope: (Hockey: "Its only the greatest sport on the face of the earth!!!"
Hope: SJ plays Anaheim for our first pre-season home game, again this year. I'll be there - went last year, so now its a tradition!
Made it to 14 home games and 3 play-off games, last year! Hope to make it to as many, if not more this next season.
Nice to meet all of you!!! :2thumbsup;
-
I am a HUGE NHL fan. I am from St. Louis so I have to love the Blues...but Boston has always been my favorite eastern conference team (Since they got Oats from us back in 91) So needless to say I was upset when they traded Thornton to you guys a few years back.
You guys have made some nice moves this off season...getting Blake and Boyle on D.
In St.L we're kind of standing pat and seeing what all our draft picks do this year (much to this dismay of many fans) but I cannot wait for the season to start.
Glad to meet another fan!
-
Love hockey!! I am a HUGE New York Ranger fan!! I have a coffee mug, a Christmas ball with them on it, shirts, ect. I'm from Jersey but I HATE the Devils. My family had season tickets for them since the 1960's before they got outrageously expensive, but a lot of us still go to the games.One night Christopher Reeve was there in his wheelchair--he was really a Ranger fan. I was in heaven in 94 when they won the Stanley Cup. :bow;

I can't believe I haven't noticed this thread before. I love watching the NHL games. During the playoffs, we have the schedule posted on our fridge in the kitchen, and no family plans can be made until the schedule is consulted. A few years ago, my family & I went to Toronto, with our primary destination being the NHL Hall of Fame. We purchased a magnetic bracket board with little magnets of each team. This board gets a prominent place in our family room during playoffs, and it is a big deal to move the magnets at the end of each series. When I was dialyzing in the clinic, I was forced to watch hockey on those little tiny televisions. If someone brought in a movie on a game night - I absolutely pitched a fit. When the nurse or techs would walk past me and I'd make sounds while watching the game, they'd stop because they thought I was in pain. LOL! I would be in pain, but nothing that some better defense wouldn't fix!!
I haven't been able to attend a game during the past couple of years, since I was diagnosed with CKF. We just can't afford the expense. However, we watch the games with our big screen & projector in our basement, decorated with the theme of our favorite team. Which one is our team? Well, we all bleed RED. Our walls are painted RED. We have lots of WINGS on our walls. We live in HOCKEYTOWN!! We are the current holders of the LORD STANLEY'S CUP, and have held that honor several times within the past few years. I have seen many hall of famers wear our logo, and am excited about watching our current pair of Datsuk and Zetterberg carve their own path to fame. I am a RED WING fan!! I wear my jersey with pride!! Bring it on, fellow NHL fans. I look forward to more posts on this thread.
-
I have to hand it to you - they are the team to beat! :clap;
-
I have to admit this last season I wasn't really into hockey as much as I had been. I am really looking forward to next season though. Toronto is looking good and resigning Cujo should be interesting. I liked him before he went to Detroit but being from Chicago that was it for him. Dallas is Dallas and they will always be Dallas. What else can you say, they are always a good team to watch and watch out for. Then Chicago I think they will be the team to watch next season. Wirtz senior passing was the best thing to ever happen to that team as bad as that may sound. His son has turned the team around making lots of fabulous changes that will bring them back the glory of being one of the original teams. They almost made the playoffs last season and I'm sure they are gonna make it next season.

Hi Robby 712 :waving; (and everyone else who has replied!)
Yes, we are quite excited about acquiring Blake and Boyle! And "Big Joe" is THE MAN out here in Sharks territory!!! I'm with you - cannot wait for the season to start!!!
I love meeting fellow fans! Have made some new friends at player signings, and we meet up at games from time to time. Hockey fans are some of the best people in the world! IF NOT THE BEST!
Glad to meet you, too, Robby712 - AND ALL OF YOU!

I've never been to a hockey game even though there is a team nearby (Predators).

Glad to meet someone else w/ a lot of team pride! I have 2 mugs, 2 jerseys/sweaters, fridge magnets, trading cards, a huge, comfy fleece blanket (a gift from a fellow fan/friend), commemorative play-off pucks, commemorative play-off pins, reg. team pins, a scrapbook of every game I attended last season, a scrapbook of every player signing I've been to, and 17 signed pucks. :bow; SJ SHARKS! During the regular season, no plans can be made without consulting the hockey schedule, planted firmly next to the family master schedule/calendar!. Hubby doesn't share my passion for hockey (he's a NASCAR fan) so he never knows when I've got tix to a game, and he always forgets to check my schedule. He'll learn.
I love your story about the magnetic bracket board! I'd simply LOVE to go to the NHL Hall of Fame! One day . . . !
Even tho I don't share your passion for Detroit, I admit I did get choked up watching your boys relishing their victory and each hoisting the Stanley Cup! Part of my being choked up was, also, seeing the utter dismay of the opposing team, defeated, and slumped up against the boards, utterly exhausted, and disappointed!
I have to admit, Detroit is a force to be reckoned with!!!
Our new head coach has come from Detroit's organization.
So, nice to meet ya!

We are a hockey family. Lived in St. Louis for years and love the Blues. You can imagine how thrilled we were in Raleigh, NC to have the Carolina Hurricanes!! The Stanley Cup madness was great fun. My husband said he was a Blues fan for years and never a Stanley Cup while we were there and suddenly here are the Hurricanes! I had a couple of the players children in my class, so it was fun to get to know some of them personally. Being a southern city, they were not hockey fans, but now everyone embraces the game and become "Caniacs" during the season. Our Christmas card two years ago was the family in Hurricane shirts. We love the sport. :2thumbsup;

Donna,
Have you seen the movie "Mystery, Alaska"? If I recall, correctly, the NY Rangers were a part of the plot.
Charlene
PS 'MYSTERY, ALASKA" IS A GREAT HOCKEY MOVIE, BUT THE ULTIMATE HAS GOT TO BE "SLAPSHOT" LOL Love those Hansen brothers! :rofl;

I LOVE your Christmas card idea! (wish I could see it . . hint hint . . .) Maybe, this year, I can talk the family into donning Sharks jerseys for our Christmas card - my daughters would probably go along w/ the idea . . . tho I bet my hubby would insist on wearing a Mark Martin NASCAR tee, if he's going to show some sports pride!
-
What a great thread!! I love it!! Thanks for starting it!
Well, it looks like I've got some rivals out there. I love a good rivalry and am really looking forward to the start of the season. Hurricanes, Rangers, Blues, Stars, and Sharks - I think we've got some potential for great chats after the games!!! Thank goodness there are no Avalanche fans yet. Just Kidding - if one shows up, I can take 'em.
Thought I'd share this pic. It was taken during our celebration right after the Stanley Cup Championship game. That playoff run was fantastic!! Now that I'm doing home dialysis, I no longer had to watch the game on the little TV. I was able to enjoy the run with my family and friends. I'm in the scarf on the left. My hubby is on the right - my son is in there too. Others are friends. We had a group at our house for every game. Our basement is done entirely in Red Wing stuff - jerseys, banners, photos, authentic sticks, pucks, flags, lockers, etc. As a matter of fact, I also do dialysis in the basement. We put in cabinets, counter, and sink (RED sink). My chair is even RED. And of course, during dialysis, the blood is also red in the tubes, LOL!! Looking forward to another great season and some good talkin' here on IHD.

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!
-
Kimcanada - I really miss the Detroit/Toronto games. I don't like the new scheduling.
The ex-Red Wing I miss the most is Shanahan. Are you Ranger fans taking good care of him?
-
Cherpep,
I LOVE THAT PHOTO! WHAT FANTASTIC TEAM PRIDE!!! (though it stings a little since my boys in teal were soooo close, this year, until Dallas ousted us from the play-offs).
By the way . . . my very first hockey game I attended was a play-off game in 2007: Round 2 Game E SJ Sharks vs. Detroit Red Wings [/b] April 30th! Had the time of my life, and have been "hooked/obsessed" ever since! (MY boys won that night! :yahoo;) If I'm not mistaken, Red Wings ousted us from that year's play-offs! No hard feelings!
Hoping to see your boys at The Shark Tank in January when they come to town!
They'll be here in October, but I can't make it to that game =(
We all do need to keep in touch during the season!!!
Thanks for posting your photo!!!
Oh yeah . . . almost forgot: GO SHARKS!!!
-
Sorry about the sting, RenalRomance. But you can feel better that we took care of Dallas for ya!
-
^ No prob Cherpep! Luckily, I don't hold grudges. :cuddle;
I have certain players on other teams I don't care for . . . but all the teams, in general, are ok w/ me!
I had to giggle at your Dallas comment! (no offense, mind you) I met a gal on my fave band's message board over 1 year ago. She's a hardcore hockey/Dallas fan! Our e-mails fly back and forth like crazy during hockey season, and even in the off-season! I was rooting for Dallas during the play-offs, just for her sake, even tho my hockey buds refused to do so b/c Dallas ousted us!
Like I said, before, Detroit is a force to be reckoned with! Red Wings have my respect, and you have the fortunate distinction of being able to say Detroit is HOCKEYTOWN!!!
:cuddle;
Just how many times have your boys won the revered Stanley Cup?
:rofl; Don't you think its someone else's turn to win - like the Sharks?! :2thumbsup;
-
GO LEAFS GO!!!!!
Hi Kim!
Toronto comes to town on December 2nd! Was planning to go to the Edmonton game on the 6th, but might try to juggle things around and go to the Toronto game instead, as I've already been to an Oilers game, but not a Maple Leafs game, yet. Your boys only have 1 stop scheduled for the Shark Tank, this season, and I can always see Edmonton in February!
:waving;
Charlene
PS How'd you get your "GO LEAFS GO" letters so large?
-
I have certain players on other teams I don't care for . . . but all the teams, in general, are ok w/ me!
I'd have to agree with - with the exception of Colorado. That rivalry runs deeeeep for us Detroiters.
Just how many times have your boys won the revered Stanley Cup?
:rofl; Don't you think its someone else's turn to win - like the Sharks?! :
Well, as part of the original 6, we won the cup several times - not sure how many off the top of my head. But then, we hit a bit of a dry period. But, just recently, we brought it home in 1996, 1997, 2002, and of course, 2008. But, we don't like to share. It's our cup and we want to keep it. But, feel free to come to Detroit to visit it. :)
One thing about the Sharks that I really like is the name of your arena. The Shark tank is pretty cool.
-
^ Cherpep,
As far as rivalries go . . . I think Sharks fans consider us to have a deep rivalry with Anaheim.
(Everytime Pronger touches the puck, our fans "BOOOOO" loudly!)
Also, at every Dallas game I've been to, Turco, their goalie, gets taunted: "Turrrr-cooooo" repeat repeat repeat, though I don't think we have a rivalry with them (well . . . we MIGHT now that they ousted us from the play-offs!).
So, what's your knowledge of Todd McLellan? Sharks org. fired head coach Ron Wilson this summer and recruited Todd McLellan from Detroit (one of your assistant coaches) to take Wilson's place.
From the Sharks website:
"During his time in Detroit, McLellan has quickly earned a reputation for being an offensive-minded and creative coach. He was responsible for one of the best power plays in the NHL. McLellan's philosophy seems well-suited for a highly skilled team like San Jose."
Sharks org. wanted a "blue collar" type head coach, and believed McLellan fit the bill.
It'll be an interesting year for Team Teal!!!
-
Just a few more days and the puck drops to begin the season! My family and I attended a preseason game last Friday. It was the first time all 4 of us attended a game together. Because of ticket prices, we've only gone in sets of 2 (my hubby & me, hubby & son, or hubby & daughter -- hey! that's a little off balance, isn't it?!) Anyhow, my sister gave my husband the tickets for his birthday. I couldn't have enjoyed the game more. We were 10 rows from the glass, center ice. PERFECT SEATS!! Even though it was preseason, all of our favorite players were in the game. What a wonderful memory for all of us!!!
We won by the way, we were playing Toronto. Looks like it's gonna be another terrific season. We've got the jerseys cleaned and the silver polish out - we're ready to bring Stanley home again.
GO RED WINGS!!!!
-
Hi Cherpep!
Yes, our home opener is in 2 days!!! Can't believe the regular season will be underway, shortly!
My daughter and I attended 2 pre-season games last Friday (Anaheim - 6th row) and Saturday (Vancouver 12th row). Had a blast! We beat Anaheim, but lost to Vancouver. I'll take a win over Anaheim, anyday, even if it is "pre-season!"!
Got to see 1/2 our "marquee players" and new talent the first night and the second half the next night!
We're going to the Sharks vs Blue Jackets game next Tuesday. The first of 15 regular season games I bought tix for! All 7th row!!! A friend of ours has season tix, but won't be able to make all the games . . . so we lucked out!
GOOOOO SHARKS!!![/size]
Hurray for the return of hockey season!!!
-
Hey there Cherpep!
How about that Sharks vs Red Wings game, last night, 10/30? Sharks 4 Red Wings 2 Not to rub it in or anything . . . just all in good fun! WE WON! WE WON! WE WON! :2thumbsup; :clap; :yahoo;
My younger teen was working in her high school's Haunted House, last night. She sent me a text message asking me to text her whenever either team scored! :bow; I love my Sharks!
Hockey hugs,
MRR

Only been to one game and dad left early because he didn't like it, so I had to go to since he was driving. Turns out we couldn't leave and we sat in the fricken car till the game was over because we we boxed in by other cars parked. liked it and only been to one other game that my work paid for years ago when I was working. We have 2 teams, the Chicago Blackhawks NHL and the Chicago Wolves (? semi pro, no clue but win more than the Hawks). Watching the Hawks on TV is a problem though, mostly available on Dish and you need a code to watch it. Supposedly that will change in the future with new management since the owner died this year.
What does the SJ stand for in the SJ Sharks?
-
Hi Chris,
I love watching our Sharks play the Blackhawks! One of my favorite games from last year was in February between our two teams. We won in a shoot-out with a goal by, ironically, a former Blackhawk, Jeremy Roenick!). It was nearly a 3 1/2 hour game!
I guess I have a soft spot for Chicago's team bc my hubby's family is from Illinois, and my father-in-law played ice hockey from the time he was a young boy until high school (outdoors on frozen ponds). Plus, Blackhawks are one of the "Original Six" NHL teams.
What other game did you go to? (who did the Blackhawks play?)
I love going to games, and watch every game on tv that I don't get tickets for. Unfortunately, I did not purchase any Sharks vs Blackhawks tickets this season. The 2 game dates just did not coordinate w/ my schedule.
Hope you get to watch more games on tv, soon, and can make it to some future games at the United Center!
By the say, SJ stands for San Jose, CA
We'll turn you into a hockey fanatic, yet!!!
-
My co worker was a hockey fanatic and since it was a company outing, I don't remember who played. I remember drinking with the head hanchos wife and some other stiff upper lips that don't fit in to hockey :rofl;
The Hawks are to play in outdoor ice in Soldiers Field I think this winter in January and I think that might be on ESPN for once because it is a major deal.
-
^ Yes, I heard that the Blackhawks will be playing against the Detroit Red Wings for the 2nd annual Winter Classic on New Year's Day! (Can't wait to watch the game!)
Watch out, Chris . . . Cherpep us a die-hard Detroit Red Wings fan!!! (but, she's a sweetie!)
Ahhh - we're talkin' hockey!
You get a hockey hug!
Charlene
-
We have better uniforms! :rofl;
-
^ :rofl;
-
Oh just saw this thread.
Lets go FLYERS lets go :clap; :clap; :clap;
Love seen outdor hockey. Use to play it as a Kid On Newfoundland. Street and Ice.
P&K
-
^ I watched the 2nd and 3rd periods of the Flyers vs Islanders game, Thursday night. It was broadcast right before my Sharks game vs Redwings game. Good game Flyers!
Love my Sharks! :thumbup; :yahoo;
-
Blackhawks win another one, unfortunately I forgot who against. I caught it on ESPN at 3 or 4 am.
-
^ LOL Chris - Your Blackhawks beat the Dallas Stars! I know bc one of my very best friends lives in Dallas and is a diehard/hardcore Stars fan. We were e-mailing and twittering last night. If it weren't for the fact that her brother brought her cute lil nephew over to show her his Halloween costume and hang out to eat candy w/ her, she'd have been totally bummed about the game. But, Dallas has had a rough season, so far.
-
Yes, the Sharks beat the Red Wings. It's OK, we had to give you 1. Watch out when your team comes to Detroit, though. My boys have had a very long road trip. It's time for them to come home and get some rest. Unfortunately, those road games on the west coast are too much for me to stay up and watch, they don't start until 10:30pm, and I have to get up for work the next morning. My son watches them, though, and gives me the updates.
I'm looking forward to the Wings' outdoor game. They just unveiled the special jerseys they'll be wearing at that game. Pretty cool. A little old style, but not completely. Can't wai!!!!!
-
The Winter Classic was awesome. I drove myself absolutely crazy trying to figure out which player was missing the Reebok logo. After the game I saw a pic of Vince Vaugn with Bettman... didn't know he was a hockey fan!?
Hey MRR, how 'bout them Sharks? They're solid and tearing it up this season. As a fellow California hockey fan, I take great pride in the recent success of the Ducks and Sharks. The critics of California hockey can shove it. Now, if only the Kings would, could, er, maybe, um..... ah, never mind, there's no hope for LA >:D That's fine with me, it's kinda nice being a fan of the only California team to win the Cup. ;D
O, and Cherp, I can't finish this post without voicing (typing?) my displeasure for the Wings :puke; Haha, just kidding... not really. But I've got respect for all hockey fans!
The Allstar game is almost here, woohoo!
-
Hi Hope (and all my NHL buds!),
. . . sorry I've been MIA on this topic, as well as the entire IHD site.
Yes, Team Teal is indeed "tearing it up!". Took a beating from Calgary, but BEAT Detroit :yahoo;
(Hi Cherpep!!!) Beating Detroit made my month! Going to The Shark Tank tomorrow night for the Sharks vs Canucks game.
Loved The Winter Classic! I drove myself crazy, too, trying to find the player w/ the missing Reebok
logo!
I was just at the Sharks Store w/ my daughter this afternoon. She is is getting an Alaskan Klee Kai puppy at the end of the month, and she absolutely NEEDED to buy him a Sharks collar! LOL
His middle name may become "Crankshaft" (Sharks defenseman #3 Douglas Murray's nickname). First name will probably be Nanuq to keep w/ the Alaskan theme.
Went to a signing in Los Gatos at a memorabilia sjhop, yesterday. Got to meet Devin Setoguchi & Ryane Clowe. Had them sign sweaters, photos and pucks! Took lots of pics! There was a dj, FUSE and NOS beverages, silent auction, a ton of people . . . it felt like a party!
Rumour was that several people had Roenick sightings.
I could go on forever . . . but I'll stop now . . . (yes, I am obsessed w/ my boys, The Sharks!)
Glad you're a Sharks fan, too!
-
Glad you're a Sharks fan, too!
Ok, let's not take it that far now, haha. I'm a Ducks fan, but have to give it up to the Sharks and their success this season :clap;
Let's hope they don't choke in the playoffs :beer1;
-
Sorry not really a hockey fan but if I was I would have to go for my local team the Penguins. :2thumbsup;
-
Lets go FLYERS....................
-
Lets go FLYERS....................
The Ducks would like Lupul back. Ok, maybe not the organization, but the Ducks fan's would like Lupul back. ;D
The Flyer's are definitely doing well this season :beer1;
-
The sharks picked up Claude Lemieux? What are they thinking?!! He's an old nemesis of the Detroit Red Wings. But, as much as it hurts me, I must give a nod to how well those Sharks are doing this year. They certainly have put their dents in my Red Wing armor. I hope they can keep it up all the way to the playoffs, then those wings will put on their real armor. :)
-

What was I thinking . . . ? Silly me! No, you couldn't be a Sharks fan AND a Ducks fan, at the same time! (??!!) LOL That SoCal/NorCal rivalry runs deep between our 2 teams!
But, glad you're supportive of CA hockey teams in general :cuddle;
A hockey fan is a hockey fan = AWSOME!

Rangers without a doubt, although the Red Wings are my second favorite. They used to have an AHL affiliate in upstate NY when I was a kid and we went to a ton of games so I got to like Detroit over the years since a lot of the players got called up. Barry Melrose was a coach there for years and won a Calder Cup, and he still has a home in the area

Just watched a great game last night. Oh yeah, Wings up 4 to 1. I can't remember who we played....Hmmmmmmm.... let's see..... the game was in Hockeytown (that's Detroit)..... Claude Lemieux was on the ice (you could tell by all the booooos from the crowd).... Hmmmmmmmmmm. The opposing team spent a lot of time in the penalty box........ Could it be that we took another bite out of the SHARKS? Yes it could be!!!
Did the Sharks peak too soon? We'll see because the best time of the year is just around the corner. PLAYOFFS!!! Perhaps we'll meet those fishes on the ice again soon.

Good morning Cherpep!
I was thinking of you, last night, while watching the game! LOL Well, no, Sharks did not win, but at least your boys didn't shut us out!
It was a good game, I'll give you that, but your boy's hit on Jumbo (Thornton) made me grimace! Only a 2 minute penalty for that?! Not that its your fault . . . the refs were sucky . . .
We'll see ya in the play-offs!!! :cuddle;
GO SHARKS!!!!!!!!!!!
Hockey hugs,
MRR
