We are a hockey family.  Lived in St. Louis for years and love the Blues.  You can imagine how thrilled we were in Raleigh, NC to have the Carolina Hurricanes!!  The Stanley Cup madness was great fun. My husband said he was a Blues fan for years and never a Stanley Cup while we were there and suddenly here are the Hurricanes!  I had a couple of the players children in my class, so it was fun to get to know some of them personally.   Being a southern city, they were not hockey fans, but now everyone embraces the game and become "Caniacs" during the season.   Our Christmas card two years ago was the family in Hurricane shirts.  We love the sport.  :2thumbsup;

I LOVE your Christmas card idea! (wish I could see it . . hint hint . . .)  Maybe, this year, I can talk the family into donning Sharks jerseys for our Christmas card - my daughters would probably go along w/ the idea . . . tho I bet my hubby would insist on wearing a Mark Martin NASCAR tee, if he's going to show some sports pride!

What a great thread!!  I love it!!  Thanks for starting it!

Well, it looks like I've got some rivals out there.  I love a good rivalry and am really looking forward to the start of the season.  Hurricanes, Rangers, Blues, Stars, and Sharks - I think we've got some potential for great chats after the games!!!  Thank goodness there are no Avalanche fans yet.  Just Kidding - if one shows up, I can take 'em.

Thought I'd share this pic.  It was taken during our celebration right after the Stanley Cup Championship game.  That playoff run was fantastic!!  Now that I'm doing home dialysis, I no longer had to watch the game on the little TV.  I was able to enjoy the run with my family and friends.  I'm in the scarf on the left.  My hubby is on the right - my son is in there too.  Others are friends.  We had a group at our house for every game.  Our basement is done entirely in Red Wing stuff - jerseys, banners, photos, authentic sticks, pucks, flags, lockers, etc.  As a matter of fact, I also do dialysis in the basement.  We put in cabinets, counter, and sink (RED sink).  My chair is even RED.  And of course, during dialysis, the blood is also red in the tubes, LOL!!   Looking forward to another great season and some good talkin' here on IHD.

Kimcanada - I really miss the Detroit/Toronto games.  I don't like the new scheduling.

The ex-Red Wing I miss the most is Shanahan.  Are you Ranger fans taking good care of him?

Cherpep,
I LOVE THAT PHOTO!  WHAT FANTASTIC TEAM PRIDE!!!  (though it stings a little since my boys in teal were soooo close, this year,  until Dallas ousted us from the play-offs).

By the way . . . my very first hockey game I attended was a play-off game in 2007:  Round 2 Game E  SJ Sharks vs. Detroit Red Wings [/b] April 30th!  Had the time of my life, and have been "hooked/obsessed" ever since!  (MY boys won that night!  :yahoo;) If I'm not mistaken, Red Wings ousted us from that year's play-offs!  No hard feelings!

Hoping to see your boys at The Shark Tank in January when they come to town!
They'll be here in October, but I can't make it to that game =(

We all do need to keep in touch during the season!!!

Thanks for posting your photo!!!

Oh yeah . . . almost forgot:  GO SHARKS!!!

^ No prob Cherpep!  Luckily, I don't hold grudges.   :cuddle;

I have certain players on other teams I don't care for . . . but all the teams, in general, are ok w/ me!

I had to giggle at your Dallas comment! (no offense, mind you)  I met a gal on my fave band's message board over 1 year ago.  She's a hardcore hockey/Dallas fan!  Our e-mails fly back and forth like crazy  during hockey season, and even in the off-season!  I was rooting for Dallas during the play-offs, just for her sake, even tho my hockey buds refused to do so b/c Dallas ousted us!

Like I said, before, Detroit is a force to be reckoned with!  Red Wings have my respect, and you have the  fortunate distinction of being able to say Detroit is HOCKEYTOWN!!!

 :cuddle;

Just how many times have your boys won the revered Stanley Cup?
 :rofl;   Don't you think its someone else's turn to win - like the Sharks?!  :2thumbsup;

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!

Hi Kim!
Toronto comes to town on December 2nd!  Was planning to go to the Edmonton game on the 6th, but might try to juggle things around and go to the Toronto game instead, as I've already been to an Oilers game, but not a Maple Leafs game, yet.  Your boys only have 1 stop scheduled for the Shark Tank, this season, and I can always see Edmonton in February!

I'd have to agree with - with the exception of Colorado.  That rivalry runs deeeeep for us Detroiters.

Just how many times have your boys won the revered Stanley Cup?
 :rofl;   Don't you think its someone else's turn to win - like the Sharks?!  :

Well, as part of the original 6, we won the cup several times - not sure how many off the top of my head.  But then, we hit a bit of a dry period.  But, just recently, we brought it home in 1996, 1997, 2002, and of course, 2008.  But, we don't like to share.  It's our cup and we want to keep it.  But, feel free to come to Detroit to visit it.  :)

One thing about the Sharks that I really like is the name of your arena.  The Shark tank is pretty cool.

^  Cherpep,
As far as rivalries go . . . I think Sharks fans consider us to have a deep rivalry with Anaheim.
(Everytime Pronger touches the puck, our fans "BOOOOO" loudly!)

Also, at every Dallas game I've been to, Turco, their goalie, gets taunted: "Turrrr-cooooo" repeat repeat repeat, though I don't think we have a rivalry with them (well . . . we MIGHT now that they ousted us from the play-offs!).

So, what's your knowledge of Todd McLellan?  Sharks org. fired head coach Ron Wilson  this summer and recruited Todd McLellan from Detroit (one of your assistant coaches) to take Wilson's place.

From the Sharks website:
"During his time in Detroit, McLellan has quickly earned a reputation for being an offensive-minded and creative coach. He was responsible for one of the best power plays in the NHL. McLellan's philosophy seems well-suited for a highly skilled team like San Jose."

Sharks org. wanted a "blue collar" type head coach, and believed McLellan fit the bill.

It'll be an interesting year for Team Teal!!!

Just a few more days and the puck drops to begin the season!  My family and I attended a preseason game last Friday.  It was the first time all 4 of us attended a game together.  Because of ticket prices, we've only gone in sets of 2 (my hubby & me, hubby & son, or hubby & daughter -- hey!  that's a little off balance, isn't it?!)  Anyhow, my sister gave my husband the tickets for his birthday.  I couldn't have enjoyed the game more.  We were 10 rows from the glass, center ice.  PERFECT SEATS!!  Even though it was preseason, all of our favorite players were in the game.  What a wonderful memory for all of us!!!

We won by the way, we were playing Toronto.  Looks like it's gonna be another terrific season.  We've got the jerseys cleaned and the silver polish out - we're ready to bring Stanley home again.

GO RED WINGS!!!!

Hi Cherpep!
Yes, our home opener is in 2 days!!!  Can't believe the regular season will be underway, shortly!
My daughter and I attended 2 pre-season games last Friday (Anaheim - 6th row) and Saturday (Vancouver 12th row). Had a blast!  We beat Anaheim, but lost to Vancouver.  I'll take a win over Anaheim, anyday, even if it is "pre-season!"!

Got to see 1/2 our "marquee players" and new talent the first night and the second half the next night!

We're going to the Sharks vs Blue Jackets game next Tuesday.  The first of 15 regular season games I bought tix for!  All 7th row!!!  A friend of ours has season tix, but won't be able to make all the games . . . so we lucked out!

GOOOOO SHARKS!!![/size]

Hurray for the return of hockey season!!!

Hey there Cherpep!
How about that Sharks vs Red Wings game, last night, 10/30?  Sharks 4  Red Wings 2    Not to rub it in or anything . . .  just all in good fun!  WE WON!  WE WON!  WE WON!   :2thumbsup;  :clap;   :yahoo;

My younger teen was working in her high school's Haunted House, last night.  She sent me a text message asking me to text her whenever either team scored!   :bow;   I love my Sharks!

Hockey hugs,

Only been to one game and dad left early because he didn't like it, so I had to go to since he was driving. Turns out we couldn't leave and we sat in the fricken car till the game was over because we we boxed in by other cars parked.  liked it and only been to one other game that my work paid for years ago when I was working. We have 2 teams, the Chicago Blackhawks NHL and the Chicago Wolves (? semi pro, no clue but win more than the Hawks). Watching the Hawks on TV is a problem though, mostly available on Dish and you need a code to watch it. Supposedly that will change in the future with new management since the owner died this year.

What does the SJ stand for in the SJ Sharks?

Hi Chris,
I love watching our Sharks play the Blackhawks!  One of my favorite games from last year was in February between our two teams.  We won in a shoot-out with a goal by, ironically, a former Blackhawk, Jeremy Roenick!).  It was nearly a 3 1/2 hour game!

I guess I have a soft spot for Chicago's team bc my hubby's family is from Illinois, and my father-in-law played ice hockey from the time he was a young boy until high school (outdoors on frozen ponds).  Plus, Blackhawks are one of the "Original Six" NHL teams.

What other game did you go to? (who did the Blackhawks play?)

I love going to games, and watch every game on tv that I don't get tickets for. Unfortunately, I did not purchase any Sharks vs Blackhawks tickets this season.  The 2 game dates just did not coordinate w/ my schedule.

Hope you get to watch more games on tv, soon, and can make it to some future games at the United Center!

By the say, SJ stands for San Jose, CA

We'll turn you into a hockey fanatic, yet!!!

My co worker was a hockey fanatic and since it was a company outing, I don't remember who played. I remember drinking with the head hanchos wife and some other stiff upper lips that don't fit in to hockey  :rofl;

The Hawks are to play in outdoor ice in Soldiers Field I think this winter in January and I think that might be on ESPN for once because it is a major deal.

^ LOL Chris  - Your Blackhawks beat the Dallas Stars!  I know bc one of my very best friends lives in Dallas and is a diehard/hardcore Stars fan.  We were e-mailing and twittering last night.  If it weren't for the fact that her brother brought her cute lil nephew over to show her his Halloween costume and hang out to eat candy w/ her, she'd have been totally bummed about the game. But, Dallas has had a rough season, so far.

Yes, the Sharks beat the Red Wings.  It's OK, we had to give you 1.  Watch out when your team comes to Detroit, though.  My boys have had a very long road trip.  It's time for them to come home and get some rest.  Unfortunately, those road games on the west coast are too much for me to stay up and watch, they don't start until 10:30pm, and I have to get up for work the next morning.  My son watches them, though, and gives me the updates.

I'm looking forward to the Wings' outdoor game.  They just unveiled the special jerseys they'll be wearing at that game.  Pretty cool.  A little old style, but not completely.  Can't wai!!!!!

The Winter Classic was awesome. I drove myself absolutely crazy trying to figure out which player was missing the Reebok logo. After the game I saw a pic of Vince Vaugn with Bettman... didn't know he was a hockey fan!?

Hey MRR, how 'bout them Sharks? They're solid and tearing it up this season. As a fellow California hockey fan, I take great pride in the recent success of the Ducks and Sharks. The critics of California hockey can shove it. Now, if only the Kings would, could, er, maybe, um..... ah, never mind, there's no hope for LA  >:D That's fine with me, it's kinda nice being a fan of the only California team to win the Cup.  ;D

O, and Cherp, I can't finish this post without voicing (typing?) my displeasure for the Wings  :puke; Haha, just kidding... not really. But I've got respect for all hockey fans!

The Allstar game is almost here, woohoo!
