Aloha everyone on this sad day --

I had been considering forming a team for our local National Kidney Foundation: Triangle Kidney Walk for a bit.  Last night, when Mom and I recieved the phone call from Kitkatz about our dear Susie, I knew I had to.  So last night I created our team.

Team Walking for Nana and Nina.  Nana, the name Paris' (my mother's) grandchildren call her and of course Nina for the Damn Dame herself, our beloved Susie.   We are walking and raising money in honor of Paris and in memory of Goofynina.

We began recieving donations only 12 hours ago and already we are above $500.  If you are interested in making a donation in memory of Susie please follow the link below or you can PM me.

Just know, that on March 29th we are all joined together in spirit as those fighting or those effected by Kidney Disease and on that day we are all together, honoring Goofynina.

We all loved Susie so much, her silliness and kindness and huge smile.  This is my way of honoring her memory.  I love you Susie.

Aloha,
Beth

***Below is the email I sent out to friends and family this morning telling about the walk and why we are raising money***

Happy Valentine's,

> Hello! All of you know me and some, in turn, know my wonderful mother. My Mother has been living with Kidney Failure for several years now. It is a silent, but I assure you, deadly disease. I watch the pain my mother goes through both physical and emotional. She has been lucky so far, avoiding dialysis (life support) in hope of receiving a kidney transplant. I, along with several others were tested, she is at the top of the list, but unfortunately, she has a extremely rare condition, in simple terms, her body will always reject every kidney. This means a transplant is close to impossible without more research. She will begin Dialysis soon. For those who do not know, Dialysis is a process that replaces your kidney. 3 times a week my mother will sit in a room with other patients, and have every ounce of her blood taken out of her body, filtered and put back in. If she does not have this done, she will not live. It is, in the truest since of the word, Life Support. She will do this for the rest of her life.
>
> Kidney Disease is widespread, we need research to better the lives of those living on dialysis and those waiting for a transplant.
>
> Through this process with my mother I have had the opportunity to meet many others living with kidney failure. One was an amazing woman, Susie. Susie is a moderator on a forum for those living with kidney disease. Several members of the forum met in Las Vegas in October and my mother and I had the honor of going! While there we met Susie, when we first spotted her walking through the casino she was wearing a tiara, boa and sash that said "Drama Queen" GoofyNina, as she is known on the forum was such an incredible spirit on that trip, always smiling, always laughing. Susie lost her battle with Kidney Disease yesterday. She was 40.
>
> I have formed this team in honor of my mother, Nana and in memory of Susie, Nina. On March 28th my team will walk in Raleigh in the Triangle Kidney Walk 2008. I need your help. The team's goal is to raise $2000. You can help in two ways. Follow the link to make a donation straight on our Team's site, or to join our team, walk with us on March 29, help us get to our goal!
>
> Thank you so much for all of your help!

What a beautiful gesture, Beth.  Your Mother and Susie are both very deserving of this tribute.

Hey there everyone -- thanks for your kind words and support!  It is such a wondeful tribute to our sweet Susie.

Just to update everyone - as of a couple minutes ago we are at $840!  Mind you, we started asking for donations yesterday morning.  Most of these come from friends and co-workers of my siblings - people who have never met my mom or heard of Goofynina but were so touched by there stories that they felt compelled to give.  Amazing - the compassion and support people are showing!  Thank you so much to those of you here who have already donated and those who might not be able to but who are keeping us in their thoughts!

Click the link below to see how far we have come as a whole team -- Team Walking for Nana and Nina are ranked as the number 2 for Triangle Kidney Walk!

I don't even know how to post this, how to write this to everyone.

Our team is at $3,440.00.  In three days we have raised $3,440.00.

A friend of both my brothers just donated $2500.

I can't believe this.  It's completely beyond my expectations.  Our goal was $2000.  We are the number 1 team, by a lot.

I think Susie is smiling on us all somewhere, guiding people to open their hearts to this cause.

The number 3 man at Red Hat who is a friend of both my brothers just donated $2500.

Great job, AlohaBeth!  Give me some more info on this event.  We're a little over two hours from Raleigh.  If my Marvin is better by then, we want to come up.  Where will it be held?  Dates and times?  If my Marvin felt like walking a few steps in this, would he be allowed?  Will Paris be there?  We must meet her.  Let me know.
