I Need Ideas for a Food Gift Basket
«

Help! I need some ideas for a food gift basket for someone. I'm going home for Christmas and will be visiting a neighbor who is on dialysis. What is safe to put in a food basket for him?

How about some nice coffee, maybe a couple of coffee cups, tea bags, and some sugar free dinner mints.

Go with seasonings, Mrs Dash, that type of thing. Those are nice to have. I don't have a problem with diabetes, so I can't give you anything else. Fresh fruit is always good. Heck, fresh vegetables for that matter. Salt free tortilla chips?

What kinds of fruits or vegetables? I don't want to give him anything that will mess with his phosphorus or potassium too much. As I'm not on dialysis yet, I'm a little unsure about exactly what should be avoided.

any kind of pasta, some canned goods, sauces and mixes, and some gift certificates for their local super market. anything that won't spoil or go bad if it sits for awhile. good luck.

Apples, pineapples, celery, radishes, cauliflower, grapes, green peppers. These are the lowest, (Zach, correct me if I'm wrong, please!), I recall that carrots were medium/high in poassium. There's a chart of foods by low/medium/high potassium. Very handy!

Throw some different types of herbal tea in the basket.

Never mind! I know what I'm going to do! I'm going to print out a bunch of kidney friendly recipes and put them in a nice album for him since he likes to cook!
Thanks for all the suggestions tho!
