No weight gain-What gives with this?

I've been dialyzing for exactly two months-Oct 20 is my anniversary. It started out horrible for me and has progressed to being acceptable. But something strange happened today. I was 58 kilos both before and after the treatment. The nurse thought I must have been mistaken. I weighed 58.3 Thursday when I left, on Saturday when I came in I was 58.2, and when it was over I was 58.3 again. The nurse asked if I had had any gut problems, vomiting or diarrhea. No to both. Had I been drinking? Well, duh, yes, I can only have 48 ounces of liquids. I know my kidney function has not returned to normal. My neph looked over my labwork for the last 2 months and said I still have renal failure. So what gives with this no weight gain? I know someone her will have the answer. Everyone here is so helpful. I have been reading posts here daily. I have learned SOOOO much. Bless you all!!

Do you still urinate? That has a big factor in no weight gain, your eliminating the fluid as you consume it and therefore your not gaining any weight, BUT if your dont urinate any longer, i am not too sure why your not gaining any weight, sorry

Jannie, here is another thread that I knew of off the top of my head. Also if you do a search multiple selections will come up (ex. "dry weight" or "weight gains"). Hope it helps.

What we gain between treatments is just not all fluid but a combo of fluid and actual weight gain, its the range of the fluid we must find. I had my dry weight raised little by little and am feeling better each time. You don't appear to be drinking that much so the question is how much are you eating.

You may be losing body weight? You may still be putting out fluid?
Check for swollen ankles. If they are fine I'd just keep watching it. You could "challenge" your dry weight and try to take off a 1/2 kilo more than usual and if you don't lose blood pressure, then take another 1/2 kilo more than usual the next time and so on until you find your true dry weight.
When you are "Challenging" your dry weight you need to be really conscience and aware at the end of your treatment. If you get fidgety, or hot or anything out of the ordinary then have them check your blood pressure right away. If it is unusually low then have them shut off your UF "Ultra Filtration". That is the mechanism that pulls fluid off of you.

I am still urinating. My neph doc says I probably will for a year or two. I also have been eating very lightly. So I think it's a combination of real weight loss and still having urine output. Plus I got my monthly period, and I always used to lose a lot of water weight when I was healthy at that time of the month. Thanks for the link and all the replies. You folks are terrific!
