got my fistula put in. They advised me to start squeezing  a rubber ball that day. The nurse at the center said it was really thrilling good,that he never heard one that new be that loud or a patient to start working  with the ball the day it was put in.

I am right handed and the only vein useable is in my right arm. They had to use the vein that was used for years to draw blood and for IVs.The surgeon said it was a real good vein for the fistula. Thank God my neph had the surgeon ,back in March. put an access port in my left shoulder for IVs or I would be in deep do-do. It still hurts a lot but it will stop with time,won't it?

When I fianally get the permacath out ,I plan on standing in the shower and scrubbing for a long time.  :yahoo;

If I remember correctly mine hurt for a couple of weeks and not really too bad. I have had mine for almost 15 years now and it's still working great. Got mine a few months before I needed it. Good luck!

I never had any pain with mine, I started the rubber ball about 3 days after it was put in. Best wishes for you.
