Is ionized water OK for kidney patients?

Has anyone heard of ionized water? I've been going to physical therapy for the last 4 months for a hip problem, and my PT said he had been looking into it. Apparently, most water is Ph balanced, sometimes slightly acidic, and ionized water is alkaline instead of acidic. The "theory" is that the ionized water is a powerful antioxidant, balances body Ph, detoxifies, hydrates better, enhances mineral absorption, and increases oxygen to your muscles so they work more efficiently. My PT read somewhere that it was better for kidney patients because it processes through better.
Now, I am always a skeptic when it comes to putting things in my body that veer from the norm. Even though I have had a transplant, I still have kidney disease and I want to do all I can to be as healthy as possible to keep this kidney. Also, since I have FSGS there is a good possibility that the disease can recur in my new kidney so I am already thinking about limiting my protein and doing anything else that will preserve my kidney function.
I plan on asking my neph whether he has ever heard anything beneficial about drinking ionized water, but I wondered if anyone on IHD had ever heard or read about ionized water (or tried it).
For all I know, it's all a crock of you-know-what!

I have the same perspectives about the type of water I am drinking and try to limit my protein intake.

I use Brita pitcher to filter my water.  I also try to limit my protein intake but I also aware that I need protein to maintain muscles with so many potent medications that I am taking from post transplant already.

It appears that there's no real scientific sources available, except in claims by the companies who sell the products. That's all I could find.

I also have a Brita water filter pitcher. The water tastes good and makes clearer ice cubes than tap water.

Don't know how it relates to kidneys, or lack thereof, but it appears there has been some research.
