I have just returned from a little stay in hospital. I went in on Thursday morning early, in a bit of a hurry and have just come home (Sunday afternoon). I woke up to heavy bleeding into my PD bags. Pretty scary sight at 6.00am. They still don't know the reason for the bleeding but thankfully it has slowed almost to a stop. I want to thank everyone on this site..... because they wanted to do contrast CT and I stood my ground and gave my reasons for avoiding it. They rang my consultant Neph and he agreed. It was information that I had read on here that I gave them. So I still have the very small amount renal function left intact and I am happy about that too.

That sounds pretty frightening, glad you're better now. Tell me, what is a CT contrast and how does it affect kidney function?

Thank You everyone for your concern. I am doing great now. Happy to be home. I don't know how anyone can eat hospital food They also hit a nerve trying to put a cannula in... ahhhh that hurts big time. I don't have the best veins. The young doctor kept away from me for about three hours. I think I scared him Tell me, what is a CT contrast and how does it affect kidney function?
Ken, here is a link to information on CT angiography. I chose PD as my form of dialysis for a few reasons. One being that it maintains your residual kidney function longer than Haemo. I have been on it for two years and so far have been doing very well. I was aware that a contrast CT would kill the rest of my funtion off and I was not going to let that happen unless I REALLY needed the test. Being informed is the best feeling. I was able to stand up against two doctors and say I don't think so and this is why.... http://www.vascularweb.org/_CONTRIBUTION_PAGES/Patient_Information/NorthPoint/CT_Scan.html

Wattle, I am glad you are out. I am on hemo but i can just imagine how you felt when you saw blood. Good job turning down the CT scan. Sorry to hear they hit a nerve that really hurts. See you in chat.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.
