Hello Friends,
Just curious if any of you have trouble getting some of your meds. Seems like every time I fill something for Dustin it has to have a prior authorization. This was on Prednisone that he has taken for years. Mind you only 14 days worth because he is being weened off it. Then they didn't want to fill his antidepressant. Here I was again calling the Dr's office and the lady was snotty. Im sorry this is her job heheheeh she was like well this takes more than one day. I called last week and the week b4!!! Geesh!!!!
Hope all of you are having a great day!

Lori, Hi my name is keith and yes i had a heck of a time getting meds and had to do without for awhile. Usually your state department of health can help with your meds. I live in Pennsylvania and have a state renal card the pharmacy hooked me up with. But before i got that i used the 4000$ i had saved for a rainy day once that was up i went to get help from the state. It took a long time to get everything filled out and sent to the "Chronic renal disease program." I also applied for the Medicare D program for prescriptions and have that. I am 51 so that may have something to do with age. I also wrote a letter to the drug companies that the drug was from and they were helpful in some cases. The only other thought i have is sometimes you can catch a doctor in a good mood and get free samples.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

Hi Keith,
Thanks for the reply. Thing is Dustin is on disability and has Medicaid and Medicare A and B. And gets extra help with his meds. It's dang Medicare that questions almost every drug whether its $1.69 like his Prednisone for 14 days and whats funny his Cellcept was close to $700.00!! I am almost afraid to call the nurse that handles prior authorizations since she was not real nice on the phone. If not filled today then I will go in person and ask for samples which his reg DR is great about giving.
Oh, you can read about my son on www.caringbridge.org I made a site and I am keeping a journal as we go through this journey. You will need to click on visit and type his name just like this dustincowen let me know what you think about his site.

Lori, I will check out the site. One other thing i remembered, The dietitian at my center has to submit a form everytime i get a new drug. I use a Emula cream for my fistula. Everymonth she must do that or i won't get it. That Celcept is expensive. I was lucky i got it for some time as free samples.

At times i also have dramas with getting certain medication. Especially sensipar....everything seems to be such a long and annoying process...!

I visited the caringbride site. Its great... there are a few other people on ihd with caringbride pages.. i think there great in keeping people informed with your health status.
